Daughter in hospital - full thickness burns

Nightmarehairinjury · 22/10/2025 23:00

Title says it all really. I took dd to have her hair coloured today - and she's ended up in burns ward, with full thickness chemical burn on her forehead and a 50/50 chance of needing a skin graft. WTF??? Can't believe it.

Am in bits.

(have namechanged)

That sounds awful, Op. How old is your DD?

HouseofDreams · 22/10/2025 23:02

That’s awful, did they do a patch test in advance?

CryMyEyesViolet · 22/10/2025 23:02

Did they patch test before hand? Did this give any reaction?

Hope your DD recovers well!

ninjahamster · 22/10/2025 23:03

Oh goodness, had she had hair dye previously? How old is she? I do hope she’s ok x

WonderfulSmith · 22/10/2025 23:03

Oh you poor thing. Did they do a patch test? You must be so anxious.

Nightmarehairinjury · 22/10/2025 23:04

She's 16. Yes they did a patch test - but I think they tested bleach and used a different lightener. It's a bizarre rectangular burn - think possibly someone has rested a hand on her forehead which has has strong acid on it. It's not a bleach burn - it's an acid burn. Checking her skin pH hourly.

Big Hug🤗

she's in the best place, it will be scary to go through. But it WILL be ok 🤗

fluffiphlox · 22/10/2025 23:05

I’m another one wondering about the patch test. Hairdressers should insist on one (I think every 6 months or something?). Hope she makes a swift recovery.

Enko · 22/10/2025 23:05

Oh that sounds bad .. hope she recoveres well.

Nightmarehairinjury · 22/10/2025 23:05

It's not an allergic reaction - it's a burn. I should have stayed in hospital with her - I just couldn't deal with it.

Fibonacci2 · 22/10/2025 23:06

Why aren’t you with her????

GammonAndEgg · 22/10/2025 23:07

Is she by herself?

BinNightTonight · 22/10/2025 23:07

Oh bless her. I would definitely go back and be with her, she is so young and must be scared x

ShenandoahRiver · 22/10/2025 23:07

Can you go back to her??

Smartiepants79 · 22/10/2025 23:07

What do you mean you couldn’t deal with it? Is she alone?

purpleme12 · 22/10/2025 23:08

Maybe her other parent is with her

Hope she's better soon

Sounds scary

ToKittyornottoKitty · 22/10/2025 23:08

Who is with her OP?

Fuckitydoodah · 22/10/2025 23:09

Ouch, poor girl. I wonder what on earth happened to cause that. Remember, they can do amazing things to help heal burns and lessen the scars. It'll look so much better with time.

When you can face it, see if you have legal expenses cover with your home insurance. If you do, call them. I'd be thinking about legal action. Processes should be followed and this shouldn't have happened.

Deebee90 · 22/10/2025 23:09

shes gonna need her mum. You need to buckle up, put any fear behind you and support her. She needs tough mama right now to say everything’s gonna be ok even if it won’t.

Loveduppenguin · 22/10/2025 23:10

What are they treating her with?

ninjahamster · 22/10/2025 23:10

Is her other parent with her?

Nightmarehairinjury · 22/10/2025 23:10

I spent 7 weeks in hospital with my dying mum a few months ago. Please don't make me feel more guilty than I do already.

LonelyPotato · 22/10/2025 23:11

I take it you didn’t leave your 16 year old DD in hospital alone because “you couldn’t deal with it”, surely you left her with another relative? What do you mean?

It’s fine if someone else is with her. If you’ve left her alone then it’s irrelevant what you went through before, she’s young and you are her parent, you need to get your arse back there. If her dad is there then I wouldn’t worry about it, she just needs a parent with her

Wishitsnows · 22/10/2025 23:12

Yes you should have stayed. Why did you leave, wth!
