Retired mums doing their fully grown adult kids washing for them - is this common?

I know four retired women who do their daughter's washing as a regular arrangement. I mean, not as a one-off because of some emergency.

Their daughters are all fully grown, functional adult women with no medical or mobility issues.

I was chatting with DP about it, and it turns out MIL also does this for DP's sister.

Is this 'a thing'? Is it actually quite common?

There are a lot of mums on here saying they do their daughter's washing because the daughter is at work and/or busy with children.

Are all these daughters single? And/or single parents? In other words, are the older mum's doing their adult daughters washing as a way to help with her domestic chores that she'd have to be 100% shouldering alone because there's no partner on the scene?

Now your being daft.
But I don't know any woman who cuts grass for their children.

Maybe it's stereotypical roles maybe its excuse to be outside.

But saying only Mums help their adult children is silly. Dads do too but in different ways

My DH is the launderer in our family - if DD needs some washing done he’s the one she’ll ask.

I don't know any Dads who do any domestic chores for their adult kids

My DiL's Dad goes round to walk and feed the dog when they are both out at work, and usually does something like hang a wash out, or wash up and tidy round the kitchen whilst he is there.

I mean, personally I don't know anyone who regularly takes in their adult dcs' washing (as far as I am aware), but that doesn't mean I don't believe it happens.

I’m sure it happens but I was asked if I knew anyone and I don’t, I’m not inclined to speak for the general population just to make a point, regardless of how tempting it might be.\
