A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

If the absconder wasn't a sex offender I'd almost feel sorry for him.

I know what you mean. I felt the beginning of pity watching that, had to check myself!

Remember, it's best not to wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig likes it. 😙💙

Or what was it Mark Twain said? Never argue with a socialist. They will drag you down to their level and wack you over the head with a bonkers ideology’

;)

My favourite quote is one of Winston Churchill's "Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy, it's inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Never has a truer word been spoken regarding this latest gaggle at government.

My all time favourite Churchill anecdote, one of many spats with Lady Astor.
"Winston,if I were your wife I would poison your coffee"
"Nancy, if I were your husband I would drink it"

My favourite, attributed to Churchill but a darn good line whoever said it:

Lady: “Sir you are drunk!”
Churchill: “Madam you are ugly, but at least tomorrow I shall be sober!”

Delivery driver says he saw prison staff repeatedly turn Hadush Kebatu away and direct him to Chelmsford railway station

It’s not great, but I’m sure he’ll be collared soon enough. Hope he doesn’t do anything bad in the meantime. But it’s hard to evade the police these days.

Labour has opened the door to introducing a new “house price tax” that would hit middle-class homeowners.

Ministers have said they are “considering options for reform” in the clearest indication yet that new property levies will feature in the Chancellor’s November Budget.

The remarks will further stoke fears that Rachel Reeves is planning a raid on assets including homes to fill a £30 billion black hole in the public finances.
It follows reports that the Chancellor is looking into whether to scrap council tax and replace it with a new annual charge based on house price.

Just read an article saying he is believed to have access to cash. How?

I sometimes take offence when retired households are mentioned in these figures. The majority of pensioners have paid there dues, I know I have, so I think it's a bit scurrilous to include them. The usual idea is that today's workers pay for yesterday.s worker's pension and thus it goes on. I just wish someone would tell the gen Z'ers who complain so loudly about us babyboomers.

I totally agree. And I particularly take offense to means testing it as it's likely the high earners who become wealthy pensioners. Taking away your house for care fees and the pension because you've got savings and new rules on inheritance tax... It removes any incentive to stay in the country and work so hard - this comes at a personal cost to family life amongst others. Funding others cradle to grave while being unable to hold onto anything and also pass anything down. I believe in a safety net but this feels like a government enforced redistribution of boomer wealth so, after a lifetime of work, they have nothing to show for it. Kills the aspirational middle class.

Killing the aspirational middle class is exactly what they're intent on doing, no doubt about it.

Makes me just want to fight them harder though 😆 After all we are the ones who will write letters to MPs, campaign etc. That's why they want rid of us.

Obviously the bungled release is a fuck-up beyond parody, but in effect he has saved us tax payers money as we've not had to pay for his pointless deportation - we all know he'd be right back here on a small boat before the year is out.

@bunsnroses1 but now we're paying for a police operation instead.

Unintended consequences from Labour’s bonkers policies - no.84

Building societies have warned that cutting the annual cash Isa allowance could hit mortgage lending and lead to 60,000 fewer home loans a year in a blow to first-time buyers.

The Building Societies Association said that reducing the annual cash Isa limit from £20,000 to as low as £5,000 could shrink their members’ mortgage supply by 5 per cent, equivalent to about 17,000 mortgages. First-time buyers would be worst affected, as this type of lending is deemed riskier, the trade body said.

Reeves assuming that much of the foregone cash ISA allowance will simply be reallocated to UK shares….muppet.

Any time Reeves "thinks" or "assumes" you know we are in trouble!

Any old muppet could have foreseen that, even dim readers!

Quite so Twisty.

It’s crucial that one makes the distinction, for any ‘dim’ readers.

twistyizzy · 25/10/2025 18:54

On 1 hand we all need at least 3 months' salary saved up in case of emergencies, yet on the other hand Labour will reduce ISA threshold to such an extent that it's impractical to save this money with quick access.

Everything they leak (because all of these are leaks!!) is like "how to make things shitter 101". No idea, no logic, no commercial or fiscal sense. Just perpetual shite touted whilst refusing to rein in spending. So the black hole grows larger, inflation remains high and we spend billions servicing our debt.

Misfeasence in public office.

I still vote for my rabbit being able to do a better job!
