How often do you get takeaways?

Two parents, two late teens. I try to limit to one each school holiday for a treat. Silly to have told kids as now they expect one then, plus the occasions that we can’t be bothered to even heat batch cooked meal from freezer. I also end up getting them McDs drive thru more often than I like as a late supper on the way home from wherever. Last year 10 take always and 8 McDs. How does this compare?

It was once a week, it's now once a fortnight, roughly.

fourelementary · 27/09/2025 09:24

So how often is that? You said one per holiday (4 a year? ) but mcds often… and takeaways when you don’t fancy cooking… so how many a year and is mcds takeaway?

If mcds is takeaway (which I don’t think it is) then my teens have 3 times a month roughly. I’d like Chinese or Indian maybe 2/3 per year. Chippy maybe 4/5 times a year.

warmapplepies · 27/09/2025 09:24

About twice a month if you include going to McDonald's etc.

We do a big ALDI shop every couple of weeks and tend to grab McDonald's first as it's opposite and convenient. We don't have DC though so it only costs us about £15 or so.

Bookblanketteaandsympathy · 27/09/2025 09:30

In the last year we've had two dominoes (im a single parent with teens/adult dc). We do live in a village with limited delivery options.

klim · 27/09/2025 09:32

We aim for once a fortnight, but it can creep up to once a week if we're having a difficult week.

I'm not trying to severely limit it though. We eat it in front of the TV, it's a little treat for them that pulls them out of their bedrooms a bit longer.

Foolsgold74 · 27/09/2025 09:33

About twice a year.

DysonLover1 · 27/09/2025 09:37

Chinese once a month
Indian once a month
Fish and Chips, maybe 2/3 times a year.
Did go through a phase of Indian every week.
However we do eat out at least once a week, an evening meal or Sunday lunch so don’t have as many takeaways now.

HansHolbein · 27/09/2025 09:41

Once or twice a year. The last one was in October last year.

Anonposter80 · 27/09/2025 09:43

Once every 2 or 3 weeks for my daughters. They have autism and love to go for a drive at the weekend listening to their music in the car and getting McDs from the drive thru. Rarely get take away for myself.

Anothercoffeeafter3 · 27/09/2025 09:45

We eat out 2-3 time a month possibly more depending on what plans we have. That can be anything from a tasting menu to pub food. Take aways are maybe once a month but we don’t eat ready meals and rarely have KFC etc (usually only at the airport now).

Antimimisti · 27/09/2025 09:48

Hardly ever, unfortunately most takeaways upset my stomach. If we go to the seaside (not often, nearest sea is two hours from us) DH will get fish and chips and I'll enviously watch him eat them while I have a sandwich. But generally he isn't interested in takeaways at home and for me it's not worth being up all night in pain after eating one.

When my stomach used to work properly, we'd have one every couple of months.

Thejugglestruggle · 27/09/2025 09:51

Probably once a fortnight/3 weeks. We do like the M&S dine in meal, which is delicious, comparatively cheap and minimal effort. We count that as .5 of a takeaway 😂

glittereyelash · 27/09/2025 09:52

Stopped getting takeaways two years ago. Don't miss them at all. I just found the quality had gone way down and they just upset my stomach. Love a fakeaway though!

What has their being autistic got to do with it? Lots of kids/teens like to listen to music in the car and getting a McDonald's.

Barbann122 · 27/09/2025 09:54

Probably once or twice a month, usually fish and chips. I would definitely count McDonald’s as a takeaway but never go there.

KelsCommemorativeSausage · 27/09/2025 09:55

I get a big Chinese or huge amount of pizza on my birthday, and we have chips and fishcakes from the chip shop once a fortnight.

iseethembloom · 27/09/2025 09:56

Chinese about once a month.
Fish and chips about once every three months.

Statsquestion1 · 27/09/2025 09:57

We have one most weeks but not every week. I budget 200 per month for takeaway/eating out for the family. 4 of us

AMillionTomorrows · 27/09/2025 09:58

Ate out or got a take away every day for the last 5 days. And two days before that.

evtheria · 27/09/2025 09:59

The only time we’ve been a takeaway/delivery family was when I had just given birth and we had an amazing pizza shop on hand… But even then it wasn’t in our budget and we overspent getting it 2x a week!

DS and DP might get a chippy tea once… perhaps twice a month (I don’t eat it), but if we could justify the price I’d like a good Chinese spread every fortnight. We also have a McD’s about once a month though.

dontforgetme · 27/09/2025 09:59

Once a week on average. This really needs to stop though because of money and because I could do with shifting some weight. Most weeks are totally shit work wise though so a couple of beers and a curry or Chinese on a Friday night is that pick me up treat we deserve 😂

Lolayu7 · 27/09/2025 10:01

Once a week , and maybe twice a month we get takeout from the local restaurant. But we don't eat out really or go out 2 young kids !

Cinaferna · 27/09/2025 10:01

About twice a year we have fish and chips from our local very good chippy. Used to occasionally get curry from a local curry house but it closed down. We do get ready meals sometimes - maybe twice a month.

I don't really get the point of takeaways except fish and chips which can't be cooked at home. I can buy a good Chinese or Indian ready meal from the supermarket for a fraction of the price and heat it up in a fraction of the time it takes to order by phone and wait for delivery or run down to collect. And you are still at home - same environment, no sense of occasion, still have to wash up.

We do eat out though - maybe once a week on average. Sometimes just noodles or sushi at Itsu before going out for the evening, sometimes a fancy dinner with DC to celebrate something. At least in a restaurant everything is done for you and you get a change of scenery.

CoralOP · 27/09/2025 10:02

Twice a week at the minute, keep meaning to cut it down but I haven't been very good at meal planning recently.

jetlag92 · 27/09/2025 10:02

I don't eat processed food, so we don't get takeaways as a family. I also like to cook and currently only work 3 days a week so have time.
DD will as a treat maybe once a month or so. DS's aren't that bothered.
