Christmas decor you just don't like?

It's obviously all down to* *personal taste but..... which items of Christmas decor leave you feeling colder than the weather outside?
For me it's the Disney baubles/figurine things that hang on the tree! Putting a little red hat on Bambi doesn't make him festive, even worse when it's the whole collection and it looks like something that belongs in a nursery!
Thinking about it most Disney films seem to be set in the summer so maybe that's why they seem so wrong on a Christmas tree🤔
I did go through a phase of everything being silver/black and white (should give the Disney lovers something to cringe at on my behalf! ) but over the last few years I have added a bit more colour, obviously in a very tasteful almost still neutral way...
This thread is hopefully lighthearted, I am taking the piss out of myself and do not feel I need hate mail from the 'Disney Christmas Decoration Foundation'🤣

Tinsel.

Cool blue or white lights.

Multi coloured lights.

Cartoon wrapping paper.

Focusispower · 23/09/2025 20:49

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 23/09/2025 20:41

Tinsel.

I cannot stand the look, feel, or smell.

Yep. I knew there would be one person already who feels the same way as I do about tinsel. I do love some nostalgic naff 80s Christmas tat, but not tinsel!

Lightuptheroom · 23/09/2025 20:50

What is with the sparkly mushrooms/toadstool 🍄 thing this year?

Moving, ho-ho-hoing Santas. Creepy. Also 8foot tall grinch balloons powered by fans. Ditto Homer Simpson with a Santa hat.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.

alwaysstressed · 23/09/2025 20:50

Elf on the shelf whose bloody idea was that?!
As if ive not got enough to do without coming up with 24 creative ideas for that daft elf to get up to every night

Imsurethatimcertain · 23/09/2025 20:51

Nutcracker...hate it. Always have, always will. Vile and ugly (imo)

incognitomouse · 23/09/2025 20:51

Oh man. I love it all. All of it, Tinsel, flashy coloured lights, gonks, candy canes. If my house doesn't look like Christmas exploded something is wrong. I've even gone back to my 80s roots with foil garlands.

But.

The baubles at M&S and John Lewis. Why do I want to hang an avocado or a sausage on my Christmas tree? What is festive about a custard cream?

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 23/09/2025 20:52

I whizzed through Home Bargains today averting my eyes from some pretty horrific stuff. It all seems extra shiny and gaudy this year.

CornflakeGirlsClub · 23/09/2025 20:54

Christmas homeware tat.

‘Santa Stop Here’ signs. Festive doormats, cushion covers, bedding etc.

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 23/09/2025 20:55

Hard agree on gonks and blue lights. And Elf on the Shelf is competitive, consumerist nonsense.

There's not much I object to otherwise as it's all a bit of fun and it makes someone smile even if it's not me.

Although I felt a bit sick the other day when I came across someone who had bought over 25 Christmas themed Jellycat toys to make an advent calendar. The sheer amount spent on that I could not comprehend....

CremeEggsForBreakfast · 23/09/2025 20:58

Oh! Wait! This. This I hate. And people keep sending photos of it to me because I normally love dinosaurs

I saw that! Wild!
I had originally thought that they at least hold their value…but that’s only at the moment, remember when everyone thought their beanie babies collection would make them a millionaire??

SeaAndStars · 23/09/2025 20:59

Christmas versions of household items - Mince pie patterned dustpan and brush, snowflake chopping board, elf washing up brush, kitten in Santa hat cushions, holly door mats or this toaster!

Either you have to store it all somewhere all year or it's Christmas every time you go in your kitchen.

Sorry @CornflakeGirlsClub Cross post.

When I was a child, people used to pin colourful foil doily cut-out things to the ceiling.

My husband insists on having these still and I hate them! It’s caused many an argument over the years.

Gonks are just awful and nutcrackers are evil looking feckers.

Miniaturemom · 23/09/2025 21:03

Tinsel really is vile, why is it so smelly, as well as ugly?

StrongLikeMamma · 23/09/2025 21:08

Flashing lights give me the RAGE
Lights must be constant and warm white only!
Decorations colourful.
Natural wreath on the door - NO giant bows!
No inflatable anything outside!
No projections up the wall/ roof.
No fake snow on the window!!!!
Red and gold decorations are the most Christmassy.

StrongLikeMamma · 23/09/2025 21:09

No fking idea what a Gonk is.

GingerKombucha · 23/09/2025 21:11

I find it super un-Christmassy when people are judgmental of others - I love that some people go all out Disney, some people do monochrome, and others do an array of multicoloured tat. I do warm lights, red and gold throughout the house but now allow a Christmas tree of any tat the kids fancy in the play room (there is some Disney but the worst is an ice cream sundae with a unicorn coming out of it?) and the dining room tree is allowed to be a bit more multicoloured than the others. Embracing it all is definitely the way forward.

dreamiesformolly · 23/09/2025 21:11

Inflatables. Just horrible.

Those awful blue outdoor lights, which I don't find remotely festive personally.

And, actually, most outdoor decorations. It's probably my age, but a string or two of steadily glowing outdoor lights says Christmas to me far more than a light show that looks like a branch of Currys yacked up on your house. I do understand that kids like them, but personally less is more for me as far as outdoor decorations go.

Thewitchsong · 23/09/2025 21:12

About 10 years ago,dp lived in a shared house and over the road, they had those tacky plastic pictures on the front of the house with lights around the edges (it's hard to describe)

There was one of santa on a motorbike which was bad enough in daylight but they turned them on after dark and it looked like a flashing cock and balls

I hate anything christmassy-we go away for Christmas so don't bother with any decorations or a tree at home

If life is going to go tit's up,it'll happen at Christmas

padso · 23/09/2025 21:12

Why are blue lights even a thing? I don't understand why they are so popular?

TroysMammy · 23/09/2025 21:13

All of it especially tinsel.

Kpo58 · 23/09/2025 21:13

I hate Christmas decor that's up before December.

XenoBitch · 23/09/2025 21:14

Nutcrackers. It is the teeth. Just, why?
