Christmas decor you just don't like?

It's obviously all down to* *personal taste but..... which items of Christmas decor leave you feeling colder than the weather outside?
For me it's the Disney baubles/figurine things that hang on the tree! Putting a little red hat on Bambi doesn't make him festive, even worse when it's the whole collection and it looks like something that belongs in a nursery!
Thinking about it most Disney films seem to be set in the summer so maybe that's why they seem so wrong on a Christmas tree🤔
I did go through a phase of everything being silver/black and white (should give the Disney lovers something to cringe at on my behalf! ) but over the last few years I have added a bit more colour, obviously in a very tasteful almost still neutral way...
This thread is hopefully lighthearted, I am taking the piss out of myself and do not feel I need hate mail from the 'Disney Christmas Decoration Foundation'🤣

OMG those awful blue lights. On what planet do they actually say Christmas? They don't to me, at any rate.

(ETA: oops, just realised I already ranted about them on this thread. They deserve a second rant though. 😄)

Edited

And a third rant 😂

WhiteRosesAndThistles · 02/12/2025 13:10

I have found a new 'love' for this year.....little felt animals, especially mice! Tasteful/neutral colours obviously 🤣
An acquaintance of mine has put her tree up and it can only be described as NEON in every colour! You could see the flipping thing from space if you took the roof off her house.....definitely not something I will be replicating any time soon (and I do wonder if it has given her a migraine yet!).

There was some mice and a badger on another thread I think and they were super cute.🐭🦡

I was just just getting round to sending a picture to my friend when I popped on and seen your comment @WhiteRosesAndThistles... I made some little mice last year! Never got round to finishing them and there's a few still in a box somewhere but I have a few still up on my tree 😁 I'd made a badger too as we were going to stay in Badger Woods/CenterParcs last year but it didn't happen. Mince pies were an obsession for a while too but I think everything could do with a little tidying up tbf... One year I might do it but until then, I'll still put the 'rustic' creations on my (tasteful glass/bells/wooden hedgehog/needle felted mice/ random eclectic shit) tree 😁

Wow, you are talented, they are sweet!

atamlin · 02/12/2025 14:40

My tree is filled with hundreds (yes…) of beautiful colourful baubles I’ve picked up secondhand. I’ve got vintage colour string lights. I suppose I dislike anything that isn’t my eclectic style.

Aintgointogoa · 02/12/2025 15:11

@IstillloveKingThistle I am allergic to tinsel ! And no one believed me for ages. Christmas tree always awash with the stuff for our childhood festivities. Despite it triggering my asthma frequently 😢

truthsayers · 02/12/2025 15:15

tasteful matchy matchy trees. Beautifully coordinated but a bit soulless. Like a dead behind the eyes supermodel.
I love the trees that have loads of personal baubles from many years before, marking out family memories, with tinsel and colourful lights!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 02/12/2025 15:33

Oh yes, the signs! I'm rather down on any writing up in the house but the 'Santa Stop Here' is very closely allied to the 'My Kitchen' or 'Relax' signs that people have up in their homes. I hate being dictated to at the best of times, and am sorely tempted to put a huge sign in my bathroom that says 'Don't Shit Here' or similar.

So instructing Santa, in writing, where he is allowed to park is beyond the pale for me.

They are absolutely gorgeous!

ILs got us personalised signs, grim. And so many items with our names on your think we were suffering from memory loss.

xogossipgirlxo · 02/12/2025 16:37

To me it’s all the items that have christmas print, but are considered as all year round items such as doormat. Do people have two, one casual and one for christmas?
Also not a fan of all beige decor.

Boomer55 · 02/12/2025 16:46

Anything with tinsel. 🤮🙄

AbbeyGrange · 02/12/2025 17:20

Gonks and anything Disney...

JFDIYOLO · 02/12/2025 21:15

Those American nutcracker soldiers with the giant teeth 😬

Paper chairs, tinsel, fold out concertina paper things - basically 70s childhood

afaloren · 02/12/2025 21:17

Blue lights.

Tinsel.

Aren’t nutcrackers traditionally Bavarian?

Calliopespa · 03/12/2025 01:06

Goldenbear · 02/12/2025 09:33

Flashing blue lights, our new neighbours have them on and our kitchens are at the front of the house so everytime I'm in the kitchen I am in receipt of this hideous light pollution! They remind me of those fly killers in butchers with the cage around them!

They are just like that actually.

Calliopespa · 03/12/2025 01:10

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/12/2025 21:18

Yes they are German - I think from Saxony.

I think they are a rather nice Christmas thing - they make me think of the ballet, and Hoffmann was German and Tchaikovsky was Russian, so not many American associations for me.

Mew2 · 23/09/2025 21:38

Hatred of flashing lights here too. I get migraines, hubby has epilepsy.
I often send him to speak to managers at pubs etc to ask them to turn the flashing fairy lights off..... Don't understand why they are allowed- as they harm people .... You can't have nuts on planes in case someone has an allergy, but you can have flashing lights which could kill an epileptic.
And again lots of tinsel and beads in trees ...

I have epilepsy as well and hate the flashing lights! One year I ended up having a seizure and split my head open on the footpath 😕

muddyford · 03/12/2025 05:25

Flashing lights inside or out.
Inflatable anything. Really grim. Plus the bloody compressor humming

Bloke in the next road has both...

muddyford · 03/12/2025 05:27

Oh, and an irrational hatred of candy canes and those pathetic 'Santa, please stop here' signs. Father Christmas comes by sleigh to the rooftops, FFS . He'd need binoculars to read them.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 03/12/2025 05:31

Most of it tbh. I have little soft white fairy lights, freshly cut holly, a wall hanging with Christmas tree baubles on and Christmas cards. I don’t like plastic anything.

monjmaintainer · 03/12/2025 05:38

I have found my people. I really did wonder if it was just me hating the blue or super white white and flashing lights as apparently my whole town love them. They are as enjoyable as driving at night and getting blinded by SUV headlights. Crime scene vibe is spot on.

I don’t understand bows on doors and don’t love them on trees but each their own.

Whilst as a adult I love warm white non flashy lights along with gold and red traditional baubles (mixed in with all the ones the kids made of course), I do have a soft spot for coloured lights, tinsel and those pull out foil hang from the ceiling decs. It’s total 80s childhood nostalgia. I have coloured lights on the mini tree in the playroom.

Final irritation. Why is non-flashing always the last option on modern LED Christmas lights? Every time they’ve been off I have to click through every possible flashy combination to get them back to just ‘normal steady on’. I have about 6 strings of lights from various shops and every damn one is the same.

ExquisitelyDecorating · 03/12/2025 06:24

I quite like blue and ice white lights, beautiful frosty colours. Not flashing though. We always have multicoloured, inside and out, warm white are boring.
