Christmas decor you just don't like?

It's obviously all down to* *personal taste but..... which items of Christmas decor leave you feeling colder than the weather outside?
For me it's the Disney baubles/figurine things that hang on the tree! Putting a little red hat on Bambi doesn't make him festive, even worse when it's the whole collection and it looks like something that belongs in a nursery!
Thinking about it most Disney films seem to be set in the summer so maybe that's why they seem so wrong on a Christmas tree🤔
I did go through a phase of everything being silver/black and white (should give the Disney lovers something to cringe at on my behalf! ) but over the last few years I have added a bit more colour, obviously in a very tasteful almost still neutral way...
This thread is hopefully lighthearted, I am taking the piss out of myself and do not feel I need hate mail from the 'Disney Christmas Decoration Foundation'🤣

My DM bought tree decorations of fabric reindeer, snowmen, robins etc instead of cards. Didn’t buy anything during 20/21.

MilkyWayMagicStars · 26/09/2025 11:34

You would hate my tree as I have loads of disney but one are festive. I collect them and I love them so much! The rest is a mish mash of things I like!

last year I went 80s style with the foil decor on the ceiling and I LOVEDDDD it…. Much to the disgust of people who like matching trees lol.

For me…the more mismatched the better. Old ornaments, things kids have made and some chocolate on the tree too!!

I admire lovely matchy trees but I prefer the pizazz xx

I usually try not to be rude about my SIL because I hate the sound of all the bickering that goes on with ILs on these threads, but I cannot resist remarking at this point that my SIL - who genuinely has many good qualities - likes the gifts to be delivered sufficiently ahead of Christmas Day so that she can re-wrap them to match her decorating theme for the year!

😱!

I quite like cedar wood candles, or anything else that smells like a crackling log fire.

Oh I forgot about them. My favourite candle ever was a fire scented one.

Absolutely yes to the British Father Christmas (the pagan in the flowing robes, James Cosmo in The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, the Ghost of Christmas, Terry Pratchett's Hogfather ... Oooh yes.)

And not the American Santa in the red pyjamas ringing the bell and ho ho fucking ho.

The White Company has a Fireside scented candle / room spray which is lovely.

Anything blue and cool white lights. Not remotely festive.

Same.

FLASHING LIGHTS people can fuck right off! What is WRONG with you?!

StrongLikeMamma · 02/12/2025 06:23

What’s a gonk?

baubletime · 02/12/2025 06:34

Oh blimey. Well my tree is all Disney. Lots collected over 30 odd years. We also have Christmas bedding. My bathroom is Gonk themed as is my breakfast bar table cover and my plates, sides plates and bowls! I have lights everywhere inside and out in warm white. I don’t like tinsel though.

Onefortheroad25 · 02/12/2025 06:40

Gonks. What are these creatures?
Massive inflatable Winnie the Pooh’s in gardens.
Blue lights.

Soonenough · 02/12/2025 06:51

Hate the pink and/ or silver theme available. But then I don't have any scheme but guess it is vintage .

Boudy · 02/12/2025 06:51

Neutral matching decs. Decorations on tree being symmetrical. Flashing lights. Bows on front doors.

padso · 02/12/2025 06:57

Where did the blue lights thing come from? I don’t get why blue says xmas?

Pricelessadvice · 02/12/2025 07:12

Inflatables. Yuk.
Pink themed trees.
Blue lights.

Oh God me too...!
We have ours on a timer so when they come on they are on full banging mode, it's a mad dash to press the button 7 times to get them to stop. If I'm at work when they come on and they're banging away in the window I bloody hate it.

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 02/12/2025 08:38

Don't know if it's still a thing ,the upside down Christmas tree.
Why?

Sasha07 · 02/12/2025 09:17

🤣 Genuinely, I'd like to know if anyone actually, willingly, uses the fast flashing function? I've never seen anyone declare their love for the seizure inducing setting... why is it still part of the sequence if no one likes it... I feel this may be petition worthy... A gentle twinkle is more than adequate! 🌲

Goldenbear · 02/12/2025 09:33

Flashing blue lights, our new neighbours have them on and our kitchens are at the front of the house so everytime I'm in the kitchen I am in receipt of this hideous light pollution! They remind me of those fly killers in butchers with the cage around them!

OMG those awful blue lights. On what planet do they actually say Christmas? They don't to me, at any rate.

(ETA: oops, just realised I already ranted about them on this thread. They deserve a second rant though. 😄)

blackheartsgirl · 02/12/2025 10:37

Send all your gonks to me. I love them 😂.

im not keen on those massive inflatables outside houses, my neighbour has a grinch one along with a load of other crap and it just looks awful.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 02/12/2025 10:43

I hate those huge 'giant's bollocks' baubles that you can buy. I'm not sure where I could even put them that they wouldn't be in the way.

Franklyannoyed · 02/12/2025 11:33

I’m in the live and let live category. There are many things I’d not have, but think it can be quite fun if others do.

the ott outside lights and ornaments, don’t want it myself but see why it’s done for the kids and it’s quite nice driving past.

the fake coloured Xmas trees, blue or pink or something, again why not.

matchy matchy baubles, like everting in a blue and silver theme.and again, why not.

however I’m sure mine most would find dull, which is just a fake balsam hill tree, pre lit, with gold , bronze and burgundy baubles, and warm white lights, bit grown up and not really fun. Wreaths over the fire places and some nut cracker men by the wood burners. That’s it.

so for me, if you want to go wild, then go wild. Why not, kids love it and I enjoy seeing other peoples. It definitely brings some cheer when driving home. I just prefer it a bit understated in my own home.
