The last thread was taken down because of personal insults towards the man.

We should be able to have a thread about this news topic.

Report any insulting posts. Mumsnet can you please just delete the offending posts, instead of deleting the whole thread?

Thank you.

Charlie Kirk has died today. He was shot at a public talk that he was giving.

But he didnt just stand there and announce that.

People constantly kept asking him about abortion and rape

And? What’s your point? Genuinely? His hideous beliefs were unearthed and made public?

You can have a gun at home though. Need a licence ofc.

Can’t use one to protect ourselves though against intruders like they do in America. Not saying I’d be comfortable using one, but I guess that’s their norm.

He AGREED with Brexit. He was a neo-nazi.

Sorry I worded it incorrectly- by Brexit I meant the topic rather than a particular view. Yes he agreed with leaving the EU.

What is YOUR point?

Why are his views on abortion, relevant to his death?

If my anti-abortion friend got shot, I don't think the first thing i would say about her is 'she was anti abortion"

The fact he was shot and killed while essentially defending the right to own guns. Painful irony.

CJsGoldfish · 11/09/2025 00:42

Of course we should all have the freedom to choose but "lovely people" don't support Trump. It is absolutely their prerogative to do so but they are not 'lovely'

Anyway, that was a weird thing to throw in, not sure why you felt we needed to know you know some faux lovely Trump supporters 🙄

Charlie Kirk was vile but his wife and children did not deserve this to be their last memory of him. Just awful.

But you know that Trump et al are strategising on the best way to use this to their advantage. Guess those Epstein files can 'legitimately' be pushed to the side whilst this is used as much as it can be. Timing couldn't have been better for the Govt

Just some 'prayers and thoughts' when it is anyone else, especially children, as everyone then just sits back for the next one.

No. Every death is a tragedy
No, it really isn't.

Yes, it is. And there ARE people who are "lovely" who are Trump supporters. I think they're misguided, but then, so are you with your assumption of moral superiority. I don't think your views (that it's fine to kill people like Charlie Kirk because you disagree with him) lovely either. It's abhorrent. What on earth is wrong with you? Argue vociferously, fine. Shooting people dead? Not fine. Who makes the decision on which particular opinions are so heinous it's okay to shoot people for expressing them? You personally?

Because both men were murdered and when Charlie Kirk called George Floyd a scumbag that's OK but anyone calling Charlie Kirk names for his views (which a lot of people condemned) is out of line. It's just a double standard.

It’s not just that though is it? It’s calling Kirk names and suggesting he deserved to die mere hours after being murdered for having a conversation on a college campus. The Left really needs to take a long hard look at itself.

Even if it is not their body, men are always going to have an opinion on abortion, as it is their sperm

In the example we’re talking about, it’s the sperm of a child rapist.

I’m struggling to believe you are pro-choice. Your way of talking about it is… not right somehow.

Reported. Arguing that women should be forced to keep babies which are a product of rape is horrific. Is this Handmaids Tale?

No one here is Charlie Kirk's friend.

FirstCuppa · 11/09/2025 00:46

It is well publicised he was a neo-nazi. Who also wanted to silence left wing Jo Cox because she was a Remainer.

The point stands. Simply being a supporter of Brexit does not equal being a neo nazi. You chose to conflate the two.

moto748e · 11/09/2025 00:54

I know nothing of Charlie Kirk really, expect the little I've gathered in the last few hours, but the proportion of people commenting with a laughing emoji on SM is depressing. A man's been assassinated, FFS!

No i wasnt talking about the sperm of a child rapist. You completely made that up.

I said that MEN in general are always going to have an opinion on abortion, as their sperm is involved.

And yes i am pro choice.

Well I guess if said friend was a staunch defender of having the right to guns (including saying some deaths were worthy collateral) and also stating that a 10yr old who was raped should give birth. It would probably be relevant as to why someone wanted to shoot them. Maybe they had a daughter who was raped?

I seem very angry?

Lol. My post was the most polite, non angry post there could possibly be.

You asked me was i a trump supporter. I answered "no. Why do you ask".

Where was I angry?

Because you seem very angry and invested in something that has little relevence to your life. If you support Trump just say so - it's not illegal - just awful.

No they didn't. There's a full stop between the statements.

He was pro Brexit.

He was also a Neo Nazi.

The poster doesn't say the murderer was a neo nazi because he was pro Brexit. That's you projecting.

Its the top news story of the day pet.

Im not sure if you are able to grasp that.

People discuss news stories on here

And I certainly do not support Trump

Who?

A low life, no mark, misogynist grifter who vocally defended the right of Americans to have heavy duty assault weapons despite the danger.

No, there aren't. Lovely people do not support the vile, corrupt, misogynistic, racist and just plain spiteful actions occuring. They just don't. But they're your friends/colleagues/family, whatever so it's ok for you to cling to them being 'lovely'

I have not said it is fine to kill people like Charlie Kirk. I have said very little about Charlie Kirk, only that he was vile. And he was. He was no friend to women and was dripping with moral superiority. But you seem to have gone a little off track there and are angry over things never said 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it was the fact that I do not believe every death is a tragedy. Because it isn't. Quite separate from the rest of my post, it was just an idiotic statement I didn't want to go past

I'm not "projecting" anything, thanks. No need, and quite an odd accusation, frankly. The two statements read as being connected in the poster's mind, that's all.

If you look back at the posts I wrote about him stating a child should give birth to a rapists baby and you replied with ‘a man will always have an opinion as it’s his sperm.’ Don’t just reply again with ‘I never said that’ as everyone can see it if they just expand the reply to look at previous quotes

LuckyPeonies · 11/09/2025 01:05

A few of kirk’s quotes:

"I think empathy is a made up New Age term that has done a lot of damage." --Charlie Kirk

"Don't let mass shooting victims control the narrative with empathy." --Charlie Kirk

"Gun violence deaths are the cost of keeping our 2nd amendment rights." --Charlie Kirk
