The last thread was taken down because of personal insults towards the man.

We should be able to have a thread about this news topic.

Report any insulting posts. Mumsnet can you please just delete the offending posts, instead of deleting the whole thread?

Thank you.

Charlie Kirk has died today. He was shot at a public talk that he was giving.

I hadn't said anything about him not wanting black people to have jobs. I'm talking about this quote: If I see a Black pilot, I'm gonna be like "boy, I hope he is qualified."

You literally said he wanted blacks out of the workforce.

In context of the FAA scandals, the push for DEI led to a drop in standards, and they were trying to push this in general aviation as well, believing that it was too white-male dominated. It should always have maintained a strict color-blind policy …

No I didn't say that.

Superhansrantowindsor · 11/09/2025 06:26

My take on the man is he didn’t just shout , he debated. He said to people - come and speak to me. Question me. Challenge me. And he responded. Now he said a lot of things I didn’t like, I agreed with him on others but the point is he had a two way debate. No matter how much you disagree with him, he has the basic human right to do this. The problem with hate speech is it can be used as a way of silencing people. His murder is about shutting people up. People should be taken down with words not with guns.

Don’t look at the Left for the killer. I think the person is much further afield. A house divided will not stand, and the U.S. is divided and unstable this morning.

Something I've been pondering too. My father believed that Kennedy's assassination was ordered by his own party machine

zebrazoop · 11/09/2025 06:26

I’d never heard of him until today. Regardless of his views 2 children lost their dad in a traumatic way , it’s sad

RingoJuice · 11/09/2025 06:13

If you mean the FAA hiring scandal, well, black applicants were unfairly given an advantage for DEI reasons.

So he was talking about a news item that actually happened, and you repeat it as he doesn’t want blacks to have jobs or whatever, like some demented game of Telephone.

Very clear many of you are listening to out of context clips, or not listening to him at all, and yet have a very, very hard opinion on him.

Well that’s the majority of the left for you. Sheep ready to read and believe whatever the pigs happen to write on the barn wall that day. We need to start teaching kids about how Orwall would see today’s left

I had recently been watching a lot of his videos. He was always polite and respectful and allowed opposing views to be heard. He was also well informed on a lot of issues. The only things I think I disagreed with him on were abortion and gun control.

I didn’t see the previous mumsnet thread but have seen a lot of people on fb celebrating his death or commenting with yawns/what am I having for dinner? Type comments. These people think they are oh so much kinder and more tolerant than someone like Kirk. People celebrating the death of a young dad because he had different views to them are are human excrement in my opinion.

Agree 💯

Any responses?

Idk what you want people to say.

It’s like mentioning that car-based societies will have some deaths associated with it. Of course it will. It’s why we have both car and gun licenses.

But do you get to laugh at people who are car crash victims?

Is that really where we are at?

@thepariscrimefiles @RingoJuice

Support for partisan violence in the US is low and is similar between parties. Dems slightly more pro-murder than Republicans, though the report is a bit unclear on other stats (the exec summary points one way but the detail stats later on point the other). About 3% overall.

Young, educated, non-white men are the most supportive of partisan violence.

Both sides massively overestimate how much the other side supports partisan violence:

Democrats think 45.2% of Republicans support partisan murder. A view that is 20.6 times larger than reality.

Similarly, Republicans think 42% of Democrats support partisan murder. A view that is 25 times larger than reality.

Talk about sweeping generalisations! What a laughable comment.

GarlicPint · 11/09/2025 06:30

I find it's becoming harder to empathise with the Kirk/Trump supporters' sense of loss, as they carry on protesting that people here have approved of Kirk's murder when they clearly have not (we can read the posts) and persistently deflect from mention of his own, often vicious opinions (we can read the transcripts).

None of us should need to repeat that people don't deserve to be killed for promoting their politics. Certainly no-one here has said they do: it's dishonest to claim they have. Yet Kirk himself was pretty keen on politically-motivated violence at times. He advocated for unnecessary death as a consequence of the Second Amendment. I don't know what he said about George Floyd, but I can read the comments above indicating he deserved to be murdered.

I can't speak for others; I can say this dishonest hypocrisy is hardening my heart.

Exactly how I feel. They’re more upset by Kirk than the 47th school shooting this year. 46 of those are ones they never cared to take action on.

You owe @GlitchStitch an apology. It was VegemiteOnToast who posted "He also wanted women and black people out of the workforce ..."

Worldwide2 · 11/09/2025 06:32

He absolutely didn't deserve to die. It doesn't matter what his political views were. The way that some of the left behave is honestly Nazi behaviour. No one can have a differing opinion or think the opposite to them. Its insane. Absolutely heinous and evil actions, and the fact that some people think 'one less trump supporter' shows that these people are not mentally ok.
My thoughts are with his poor wife and small children who are now without a dad. So tragic.

ainsleysanob · 11/09/2025 06:32

Those theories largely relate to very specific policies of Kennedy (mainly related to Vietnam) The is no similar situation with Kirk. The Left, whether domestic or foreign is 99% the likely culprit here.

Keep in mind that one of those children is his young daughter, who he said he’d force to give birth if she was raped. He cared less about his daughter than his misogynistic ideology.

Except you don’t know that. Remember that the idiot that shot Trump was a right wing pro trump voter.

It’s more than likely a disgruntled democrat but there is very little advantage to the other side when a martyr is created. Martin Luther King was an inspiration but would we still be talking about him if he’d died of old age.

GarlicPint · 11/09/2025 06:33

Where did the “laughing at car crash victims” come from?
Kirk said that some gun deaths were an acceptable price to pay for 2nd amendment rights. Essentially that the occasional school shooting was worth it so that John Doe from Idaho could have 7 assault rifles. Do you agree with that?

To quote his own latest post, play certain games, win certain prizes.

You build your “career” on extremes, promote hate and division, tragedies like these happen.

He promoted dialogue and debate on issues where society was already divided.

It is still just a view point which come from his religious beliefs. There are many ppl that live in this country who treat their daughters as commodities and women in general as second class citizens who have no right in even choosing who they marry. Yet they are not shot at. No one cares. Charlie Kirk didn't deserve to die and its absolutely disgusting to see people think that it's ok.
