Booneymil · 10/09/2025 23:20

The last thread was taken down because of personal insults towards the man.

We should be able to have a thread about this news topic.

Report any insulting posts. Mumsnet can you please just delete the offending posts, instead of deleting the whole thread?

Thank you.

Charlie Kirk has died today. He was shot at a public talk that he was giving.

No. I was thinking of the victims of school shootings.

All the hype about flying flags pales into insignificance, when you see a bloke shot dead. I'm not scared of those guys but I'm petrified of what you represent. The hard left and their intolerance/fascism. Stopping ambulances getting to hospitals, immobilising military aircraft, attacking women etc. The worm is turning and the left hate it. Tough.

Did you just reply to me with a non answer because I’m trying to understand what exactly you’re on about!

That's your problem, not mine.

'The worm is turning'.

The hard left are horrible, but would you not be scared, or at least unhappy, about a US where there was no abortion available even if you were raped, gay marriage was repealed, and the hard-righters like the white Nationalists pp mentions were in power? People like Douglas Wilson, who says women should not vote and US should be a Theocracy (Pete Hegseth LOVES him)

I know this is not how it is now. But that's what the HARD right are like in the US.

Would you not be scared or at least unhappy if those things happened.....?

Or not....?

Of course, by why about Charlie Kirk specifically? You say that you think all deaths are a tragedy, but 30,000+ US citizens are murdered with guns EVERY SINGLE YEAR so why have you never started a thread about it before? Why is the shooting of this US citizen any more or less heinous than the murder of any other US citizen?

@Booneymil
Why haven't you answered my question above OP? You've replied to several other posters since I posed it to you, so why haven't you answered it?

Abortion hasn't been outlawed across all States. Trump is laughably seen as a dictator when the US has the first amendment. I agree with the pp about the loony left and hasn't its lunacy been on show tonight.

Go and watch one of his rallies rather than reading slanted articles about him. Listen to what he says. Watch how open and respectful, genial and often kindly he is to those who disagree with him and reflect on how the media portrays this as extremism.

He would talk to and answer questions from anyone. His whole point was that people who disagree need to engage in respectful dialogue because when talking stops violence begins and we all lose.

It's not simply slanted to recognise he had some extreme views.

Do you think that denying abortion to a 10yo rape victim is a NON-extreme view?

Not supporting lgb rights (not just t), wanting women to forgo career & college, and telling 30ys they are unattractive (despite marrying a 32yo woman w a career & college degree)is unpleasant, tho not in the extreme field. Ditto saying that the Pill automatically makes you 'crazy and bitter' Or do you think that's pleasant? Genial and kind, to quote your post?

Ratafia · 11/09/2025 01:53

Booneymil · 10/09/2025 23:59

Do you that he forced his opinion on women though?

Any talks that i saw that he had with women about abortion, the women were always standing up to him very strongly about abortion. They were arguing back with him

Do you really think that, if he had been in a position of power, he would have abandoned all his views on abortion? Isn't It clear that he would certainly have put his views into law and would not have abandoned them?

I’m sure Hitlers wife was sad at his passing.
I’m sure Mussolini’s family were sad at his passing.
I’d imagine Charles Maurras, DF Malan and Nathan Bedford Forrest all would have been mourned by there families.

That doesn’t mean we should mourn them.

Is it sad for his family? Yes
Is it sad that he was assassinated, and will be made into an Anti Left martyr? Yes
Is it sad that there’s one less religious nut preaching racist, sexist, typically American right wing views? Nope not even a little bit.

It's because of who he is. Had he been a Democrat, their 'logic' would have been reversed. I'm not taking them seriously and agree this thread will be deleted. Night x

I was clear in my post that I was describing how the US would be IF the hard right were in charge.

I was NOT saying that's how it is now. I know quite well it is not. I don't think Trump is a dictator, that's ridiculous.

So....do you wish to answer my question?

How would you feel IF the hard right were in charge, and things were as I described in my previous post?

I don’t think his views were nearly as extreme as many of the views of people on this thread.

Holding the view that it’s fine for someone to be shot dead because they hold opposing views to you, is way more extreme than being anti-abortion.

Charlie Kirk held a lot of views that I don't agree with. However, no one should be murdered for their political views.

I'm saddened but not surprised by some of the posts on this thread. Some posters should be truly ashamed of themselves.

What do you think of the total abortion bans in several states, quite a few (let me check which) with no rape exemptions?
What is your opinion on those?

Yes, those people are truly disgusting. No one should be murdered whatever views they hold. Ofc that is worst.

But do you not agree that wanting a raped 10yo to carry a child to term w no other option is extreme? Most anti abortionists do not go that far.
