The last thread was taken down because of personal insults towards the man.

We should be able to have a thread about this news topic.

Report any insulting posts. Mumsnet can you please just delete the offending posts, instead of deleting the whole thread?

Thank you.

Charlie Kirk has died today. He was shot at a public talk that he was giving.

It’s another sad day for America I guess.
Not because I think it’s bad that that’s one less hate filled religious maniac preaching to college kids, but because the scarily far right (because our far right pales into insignificance by comparison to America’s) have now gained a martyr.
I suppose if you’re going to preach about the rights to bare arms and gun deaths being inevitable then you can’t be upset to end up a statistic.
Sad for his family, sure. Catastrophic for the already horrendous divide in America.

Ah, the kind left, at it again. The voice of compassion and humanity. No wonder your political allies are the laughing stock. You can't even keep up the pretence before the hate rears its head.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 11/09/2025 01:26

The virtue signallers aren’t above using the death they’re so appalled by to score points against ‘The Left’ though, I see.

I won't report that. I will let others see you for what you are.

That is sad that you even think that.

Politics makes people deserve death now?

I know you meant well by the thread. However, as you will see, the dregs have carried themselves over to this one.

His death will create many more. Your joy will be short-lived.

The left really can’t see what is happening, can they?

Hmm so the way to deal with those you politically disagree with is not well mannered and rational debate but murder.

This is the worrying reality of the far left.

They certainly can't. So Trump is responding to the toxic left and then the toxic ones bleat about it!

Anyone celebrating the murder of another human being is despicable, regardless of what they felt about the opinions that person held.

I didn’t agree with much that Charlie Kirk said, although I did agree with some, but every video I’ve ever seen of him speaking and debating has been conducted in a way that allowed for open dialogue on both sides.

His poor family must be in such pain and his daughters are so young they’ll never get the opportunity to really know their Dad. That’s devastating and anyone who can’t see how sad it is and feel empathy for all concerned, is a deeply unpleasant person.

Completely agree , yet ironic that he celebrated and justified the mass murder
of innocent children that most of us have been seeing on our screens for the past 2 years.

Booneymil · 11/09/2025 01:32

I don't support trump or charlie kirk. I disagree with a lot of what charlie kirk says.

I still felt sad at his death. He is a human, a father, a husband. He is young. It is sad.

It is so unbelievably predictable.

Hamas would say Israel thinks so, and presumably vice-versa.

I’m guessing you’re in the US? The responses (including my own) above are not FAR LEFT. In the US they would probably appear that way but we don’t have such a clear cut left vs right system. I obviously can’t speak for other posters but personally I’ve never voted for our own left, too much I disagreed with. However the FAR RIGHT in any country is always bizarrely bigoted and close minded. Our lot that vote for the far right are the thick idiots spending their time painting roundabouts whilst everyone else judges their IQ.

Morningsleepin · 10/09/2025 23:53

Nope. IMHO what America and the UK need is more prosperity and less stress for the common people. People don't get half so angry when they have fewer worries.

Agree with this -when people have “enough” money they are not as angry.

I enjoyed watching his debates on YouTube even though I do not agree with many of his opinions. It is very sad for this wife and children and one of the reasons I think gun control is a good thing.

SouthLondonMum22 · 10/09/2025 23:43

He didn't deserve to die for his abhorrent views but they were absolutely abhorrent.

Didn't your countless YouTube clips include the part where he said if his daughter was raped at 10, he still didn't agree with abortion? That certainly isn't keeping women or girls safe.

What I consider abhorrent is asking such foul disgusting questions as a debating tool in order to make the audience have a negative and emotive reaction whatever the answer.
Think about what kind of sick bastard could come up with a question which starts with imagine your ten year old daughter gets raped. and you are half way to knowing the person who shot him.

As a man he was certainly divisive but he did not deserve to be shot. It is a shocking event

Let this comment stand. It’s this. Stupid loony left lunacy. This is why Trump is in power. No one should be assassinated in front of his wife and two young children for having opinions you don’t agree with. I take it you agree with the death penalty then?

The same people who march for Free Palestine and Trans Women are Women (without realising or are wilfully stupid that rabid trans ideology is just a men’s right moment in plain sight).

I abhor Charlie Kirk’s views on abortion and guns but he gave all the campus students free and fair comment to challenge him respectfully.

The hypocrisy on this and the other thread is unreal.

All the hype about flying flags pales into insignificance, when you see a bloke shot dead. I'm not scared of those guys but I'm petrified of what you represent. The hard left and their intolerance/fascism. Stopping ambulances getting to hospitals, immobilising military aircraft, attacking women etc. The worm is turning and the left hate it. Tough.

I know nothing of Charlie Kirk really, expect the little I've gathered in the last few hours, but the proportion of people commenting with a laughing emoji on SM is depressing. A man's been assassinated, FFS!

The reaction to the Mangione murder was chilling too. Jia Tolentino did an excellent New Yorker piece.

I read people on SM arguing that the United Healthcare CEO had caused numerous deaths without a care, so the murder was vigilante justice. Don't know enough about the CEO to comment, but if he had, obvs still not justified at all. That CEO also had a wife and children.

That anger was at least about actions. Saying Kirk deserved death for his abhorrent views is worse imo, he didn't cause anyone's death.
