Hate how racist everything has become, and how quickly it’s happened.

I was just looking at facebook, and a ‘Sad face’ newsmaker article came up. Practically all the comments mentioned boats, asylum seekers etc etc. Its really getting me down.

Travelled to the south west last weekend. On the way down no flags on bridges. On the way back, in some areas, every bridge.

Its scary how quickly it’s all happening.

I wouldnt say its racist. I am not racist for saying - hang on it seems we cant support our own people in the uk (police/housing/healthcare etc), how can we keep springing money out for housing these people. It feels to me there is no plan and its just out of control. Im allowed an opinion on all this without being called racist.

They are deporting more people now than the same period under conservatives.
applications are being processed quicker now than under conservatives
fewer hotels are being used than under conservatives.

We are the fifth highest European country taking asylum seekers. So not that many comparatively

It feels similar to the social manipulation that occurred during Covid.

This isn’t a mad conspiracy theory- I believe in vaccines, covid was clearly a genuine public health emergency etc etc…

I mean the way attitudes are shifting, people are changing behaviour, aggressively challenging anyone who tries to break away from the ‘new norm’. It’s really genuinely frightening.

What do you mean by the new norm?

You are not racist but do remember only 4% of immigration in 2024 was from small boats etc
If they government supported the rest of it eg wanted the cheapest labour etc then they should have funded the services eg education health care, that went with it
But they didnt

Upupandaway10 · 24/08/2025 22:46

What on earth are you talking about - “a huge amount of money behind it”? By who? What conspiracy theory is this?

Do you not think ordinary working class people are fed up seeing or hearing
news stories or reports of illegal men coming into the country and getting put up in 4 star hotels for free. Don’t forget the crimes that are being committed as well that the public actually get to know about.

4 star hotels?

you know they’re converted to dorm rooms effectively?
I’ve heard of families of 5 all in one room. It’s hardly 4*

Infracat · 24/08/2025 23:54

Im glad Im not the only one who feels this way. Everytime Ive opened my social media in the last week or so all Ive seen is racist comments.
A Reform MP shared a video of a guy going crazy at someone outside a supermarket, accusing him of having touched his daughter in the store, calling him the 'c' word and telling him to go back to his own country. It was awful the verbal abuse this guy was given. The racist comments on that post were awful. People getting angry. Scary stuff.
The police made a statement saying store cctv was checked and there was no evidence of this man touching the other man's daughter. And nothing criminal had happened. The accuser has now been arrested for racially aggravated common assault and inciting racial hatred.
The police said people should stop sharing the video but the Reform mp won't remove it from his page.
The number of people who have liked and commented on that post without even knowing the truth behind or checking the facts is scary.
This is the mind of thing that is happening. Its embarrassing a d scary.

PaxAeterna · 24/08/2025 23:58

It is sadly gone the same way in Ireland. I agree with the posters noting that there serious money behind this. Racism is off the scale now. And it’s very worrying, 50% of our nurses are immigrants for example - our healthcare system will be on it’s knees if people start to go home.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 24/08/2025 23:58

The reform mp should be done for inciting hatred if they’re refusing to take down the video

They should but there is something much deeper that needs to be fixed to solve this.

I just think so many people are disillusioned by the housing crisis, the cost of living. There is so much discontent. That’s why this racist, divisive rhetoric has taken hold,

LavenderBlue19 · 24/08/2025 22:29

It's horrible. There must be a huge amount of money behind it - presumably the same money that got Trump into power.

I'm hoping very much that it's just summer madness, and when it starts raining next week they all crawl back into their holes. We are not a racist country.

I agree there is huge money behind it. I think it's ramped up lately because the idea of taxing billionaires has started to make headway. I don't think billionaires like this and so they push more money into media/politicians that blame a different group of people ie immigrants! Honestly, if we taxed billionaires, there would be quite a lot of money to solve many of the problems we are facing. Why are they so greedy? How many billions does anybody need to have a good life?

PaxAeterna · 25/08/2025 00:08

erm · 24/08/2025 23:27

I think it’s timing, the NHS is on its knees, people can hardly see a GP, schools are majorly underfunded, there’s a cost of living crisis where every week our shopping bill seems to be going up, then to top it all off all the illegal immigrants are allegedly crossing several countries and risking their lives crossing the channel to get to Britain as they see it as the land of milk and honey or benefits galore.

Coupled with the seemingly never ending social media stories of illegal Uber delivery drivers, HMO houses, men arriving to rape or women and children and you can see how easily and quickly the frenzy is being whipped up.

Personally, I think we do need tougher controls like Australian has, no entry into the country unless you can prove you have a job and X amount in the bank. Any committing a crime you’re deported. We take a limited amount of genuine asylum seekers each year similar to other EU countries. Send out the message you are more than welcome if you want to come here, contribute, work hard and join our multi-cultural society.

The UK are the 5th largest for asylum seekers claims in Europe and if you look at the numbers per capita, the UK has less than average asylum seekers numbers compared against the EU countries.

I agree with much of what you say but if you are repeating these myths then you are also part of the problem.

Spot on!

Iits much easier to blame migrants, not even legal migrants because that would be a harder sell, and you could be called racist, they work here and come on visa , blame the illegal migrants, thats not racist, that's just common sense.

That's what Trump did and it works a treat because unlike say West Indians who mostly came here in the 50's or Pakistani's who came here in the 70's, blaming our problems on the tiny portion of migrants who come here illegally, well its hard to defend economic migrants or even migrants from war torn countries, under the banner, they get hand outs when the population is suffering ( thanks to the squeeze of the super rich)

They are the perfect group to pin our woes on, and say with a straight face, your not being racist, but care about dodgy men with stone age view of women and may even be terrorists. But you are now on a platform shared with far right whose one desire is race war and anarchy and an all white UK.

Renamed · 25/08/2025 00:25

It’s scary but it is a tiny minority on these “protests” - low hundreds across the lot of them - the reporting is really blowing it up. That reporting then feeds into the Reform narrative that immigration “harms our country” etc - people think if it’s reported so much, something concerning must be happening. The flags going up is again just a few - all aimed at giving the impression of a mass movement. What’s really scary is that the extent of the opposition to this, counter protests etc, doesn’t get reported.

And that’s not the fault of asylum seekers. I lay the blame at austerity. Starved us and got fat.

Exactly. Why are the counter protests not reported? Doesn’t fit in the narrative.

MorrisseysMisery · 25/08/2025 00:36

I could not agree more OP.
They seem far more brazen and feel they can publicly vocalise their small minded opinions.
I'm not racist BUT I'm about to say something racist. Common trotted out line.
The flagshagging is just another veiled statement of racism.
Even taxi drivers are not exempt from this nastiness, I know many of them and they're just like us, children, homes to pay for and just want the best for their family

I’m so bored of hearing this ‘housed in 4 star hotels’ bullshit as if they’re all spending every day ordering room service, booking spa treatments and having afternoon tea on the croquet lawn.

Apply some critical thinking at least.

Asylum seekers 'caught making OnlyFans film' in migrant hotel

The Metropole Hotel in Blackpool has been used to house hundreds of asylum seekers since 2021 - and now staff have reportedly found a couple making a sex tape

JustSawJohnny · 25/08/2025 00:41

The people of this country are being played like fiddles.

Trump did the exact same thing in the run up to both terms. Stoked the fears of the lower classes, pointed fingers at immigrants and repeated a sorry tale of how everything bad was THEIR FAULT.

of course they were stupid enough to buy it.

Just as Boris copied Trump in paying Russian Bot factories to stir up fear and anti Labour sentiment in the run up to elections, Farage is taking the migrant excuse straight out of the playbook.

And doesn't it suit him! Who would've thought that the man who started a Hitler Youth division at school would take so well to the role?! No, no, dear people of Britain, don't look at his manifesto, that's where he shows himself - no, look over THERE!! Look at the BROWNS!! They're your enemy. Not the man who wants you to go unpaid when off sick from work, have no workers rights, no human rights and who wants to give all of the perks to his billionaire backers! It's THEM!!!

I might start a Make Brits Use Their Brains Again cap campaign.

cranberryshortcake · 25/08/2025 00:42

Many countries fly their national flags from municipal buildings, libraries, schools and other public places and even gardens. Why don’t they do it here? Is flying your own flag racist?

Well they're not homeless and living on the streets like so many people who were born and bred in this Country are they?, and they certainly won't be without heating come the winter months like so many of our pensioners either.

So really you should be 'applying critical thinking' and see what's actually going on, and it's only going to get worse.

It is the new Covid for Mumsnetters. They will be 'shaking and crying' about the flags - from their homes in Tunbridge Wells, Harrogate and Ilkley!

No doubt they will be 'prepping' - ordering online so they do not need to venture to Waitrose in their SUVs. Shock! Horror! They may see the nasty flags if they venture out! They will hide in their houses and wait for the working-classes to deliver their shopping.

Nanny and John will be along in a minute.....

It is indeed a beautiful hotel that photo looks stunning, beautiful architecture.

My point was in reply to pp saying imigrates weren't having a great time In the hotels, illegal immigrates claiming to be refugees are ecomonic migrants

Gaming the system
