A genuine miracle has happened

It’s 7.15pm. Both kids are in their own beds quietly. 4yo reading to her teddies, 5mo asleep in his crib. DP is making crumble from the blackberries and apples in our garden. The house is reasonably tidy. No one is asking anything of me.

How long will it last?! How should I enjoy my freedom? What miracles have happened in your house today?

I’d pack my bag and run 🤣🤣🤣 (Just kidding of course!) Enjoy!

naturalcrackle111 · 25/07/2025 21:08

I’ve managed to get to the end of my washing bin. 9 loads washed, dried and folded today 😳 thanks to the sunshine ☀️ haven’t managed to pack it away yet!

it won’t last long, the bin will be full again by tomorrow.

MummaMummaMumma · 25/07/2025 21:30

I do hope you've not jinxed yourself!
Enjoy 😍

ForestSloth · 25/07/2025 21:40

Thank you for this lovely thread. My miracle was that I was able to sleep last night and thus avoid escalating into crisis. Blessings to all of you and your precious little ones :)

newrubylane · 25/07/2025 21:42

All of our bins and recycling were collected when they were meant to be. Actual miracle. It's only happened about 3 times this year. Not as satisfying as your miracle though - enjoy it!

AllotmentTime · 25/07/2025 21:59

@bigblueboots thank you, I have had a very stressful day and this thread has cheered me up no end.

Particularly @Dontlletmedownbruce - mine are 12 and 9 and it is truly eye opening how suddenly independent the 12yo is. It had not occurred to me to see the light at the end of the tunnel when our 9yo is the same. Today I just felt like a truly awful parent for spending no time with them at all. I can do this!!

Crikeyalmighty · 25/07/2025 22:02

@Tryonemoretime thinking of you - I had a really terrible time post covid and then one day I woke up just fine

I was a cruel mother. Once they graduated to the cot, once in it I didn’t pick them up un less there was a VERY good reason. I sang, talked, stroked, held hands and stayed until they drifted off or were clearly about to. After about a week they settled very quickly. Worth the few days of sitting there for what seemed like hours !!

I don't think what you did sounds cruel, as your babies were happy.

If i did this - when I've tried this - she'd cry inconsolably, choking and gasping type crying. I don't do this for that reason, but singing, talking and stroking definitely wouldn't cut it unfortunately.

Ashwapanda · 25/07/2025 22:30

Just to say what a genuinely lovely thread, well done OP! X

My miracle is my bowel operation is happening end of August so soon, peeing and shitting all over myself and using tena ladies may just be a distant memory LOL.

I can not wait to return back to work and be able to feed myself and not go days without food so my son doesn’t have to.

💐💐💐.@DestituteDesperate🙏all goes well for you.

I'm strolling up to the local pub with Dh shortly. That's the miracle. Nothing to be done. 3 Kids are 12 to 17, they can do whatever while we are gone, we won't be late so if they are still up that's ok. If they are hungry they'll make a snack. The last year has been a daily miracle. I go for a walk when I want. I do evening classes if I want to, jobs like grocery shopping or running errands are done when suits me. I sometimes go for coffee with my book to get some me time. I've started getting my nails done. I have reconnected with about 5 different social groups, I've had nights out, gone to gigs and met for brunch. I don't know why this stuff isn't celebrated more, youngest kid being 12 is like a whole new lease of life!

I’m just entering this stage with our 2 kids. It really does feel like a miracle at times after the more intense younger years.

I’m loving this thread so much. I’ve been feeling low for a few days but OP’s 4yo reading to her teddies and some of the other small miracles is lifting my mood.

Mumof2heroes · 26/07/2025 09:50

I thought you were going to say your DH changed the loo roll and put the empty one in the recycling. Oh well, one can hope 🤷🏼‍♀️

After being rejected for so many Grad jobs DD has been offered the most bloody perfect role in Westminster doing exactly what she wanted. It truly is a miracle and we are so so happy in this house tonight.

So pleased for her and for you, hope they'll actually be paying her though. So many are unpaid internships that don't lead anywhere.

ADHDChick · 26/07/2025 21:59

I played in a pool on holiday with my 4 month old, nearly a year to the day after finding out we were pregnant with him after years of infertility and miscarriages.

Your blackberries are very early or are they last year's crop from the freezer? I have some which are years old!

We've had them the lake a fortnight now, I thought they might be a bit tart as they seemed early to me, but they're gorgeous!

I guess we had a sunny hit spring?!

shame I'm so squeamish as there are a ton at knee night (better known as dig pee height!!)

taxidriver · 27/07/2025 08:53

saw so many blackberries yesterday, i must pick them today

taxidriver · 27/07/2025 08:56

i walked through a very overgrown field, plants above my head, there is a footpath but this is the first time i have walked all the way through since it has become so overgrown, after a couple of attempts previously, even my dog was scared
but yesterday we were both brave and reached the end which led out to a wonderful field, no sheep, happy dog, happy me

This feels like an analogy for life in general. Let’s all be brave enough to walk through that overgrown field.

slightlydistrac · 27/07/2025 11:07

I picked some blackberries yesterday. That's the fourth time, and we now have more than enough in the freezer to last until next year. DH has been and picked some several times too, and he quite likes them on his breakfast cereal. The brambles are absolutely heaving with fruit round here.

ForestSloth · 27/07/2025 12:35

DestituteDesperate I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through; that sounds really grim. I wish you a miraculous recovery... And have some blackberries as they seem symbolic on this thread!

Upwiththisiwillnotput · 27/07/2025 18:06

Already posted on another thread but I took my 18yr old cat to the vet on Friday expecting the worst as he had stopped eating and seemed very frail. Turns out he has an abscess in his mouth and a touch of arthritis which antibiotics and pain relief will sort, so he is not going anywhere for a while ❤️

Whoooo · 27/07/2025 18:22

Just back from a lovely holiday with dh and our 2 dds.
It's been an horrendous few months - older dds postgrad which shes hated, dds gcses, dds health issues, my health issues...😞
But! We all chilled out, laughed and had a lovely time 😁
