He took a bite of every single piece of chicken!!

Just venting. 16 year old cat. Normally very fussy and only eats his own food. NEVER bothers with our food. Hates spices, lemon, onion. Doesn't even eat chicken legs if you offer him.

This evening we had a couple of friends over. DP made chicken tagine, and left it on the counter before setting the table in the garden. The asshole cat has gone and sampled each piece of chicken. We had to throw away the whole thing and order dinner.

I mean I love him and have had him since he was a tiny kitten, but honestly I want to scream. How can you be such a bastard? DP thinks he is cute...

Would you have eaten it if the cat had only eaten some of the chicken???!!!???

🤮

talomon · 03/07/2025 20:25

No way. Normally he is well behaved and doesn't go anywhere near our food. But it takes a special kind of assholery to take a bite of every single piece as if he wanted to ruin the party on purpose.

My cat takes a bite out of every cupcake when they are cooling. I sympathise . I have to get children to stay with the cakes

Dh and I would find that hilarious. Sorry. Not helpful I know.

talomon · 03/07/2025 20:31

@Amicompletelyinsane aaargh why do they do it? I feel like they should be arrested and interrogated by the police.

I'm sorry OP but I couldn't help but laugh!

I do understand how infuriating this must have been but you really will dine out on this story in the future!

LittlleMy · 03/07/2025 20:43

Aww bless his little elderly heart! 🥹 I think your DP is also v sweet to think it’s sweet instead of getting angry lol

AuditAngel · 03/07/2025 20:46

You should have kept it and fed it to him until it was gone!

ConstanceMartensCat · 03/07/2025 20:59

He was like, Ugh there’s nasty Moroccan spice on this bit. And this one. And…. Bless him.

Us too, I think it’s cute and cheeky!

One of our cats many years ago ate two whole croissants that my daughter had brought home and left in a paper bag on the countertop.

TheSilentSister · 03/07/2025 21:34

Pets are a-holes when it comes to food.
You live and learn.
I'd cooked some bacon and eggs for myself and left the pan on the oven as my DS was due home and I thought I'd do him some. This wasn't summer time or I'd have never left the pan otherwise.
DS gets home and I asked if he wanted some bacon and eggs, yes please he replied. There were paw prints in the pan and tongue tracks in the fat.

I left a nice chunk of buttered baguette topped with ham on a high windowsill
returned seconds later to no ham.
2 cats and 2 dogs in the vicinity all totally innocent of course with mutual alibis…

caringcarer · 03/07/2025 21:57

I used to cook my elderly cat a bit of steak on the BBQ before he died. He loved a sausage too. He used to see the BBQ going on and sit so nicely waiting for his bit of steak.

fireplaceembers · 03/07/2025 22:01

Mine eats plastic. My dad left a tenner on the table the other day when he visited…. Having to wrestle cash out of the cats mouth wasn’t part of my plans for the day

AllrightNowBaby · 03/07/2025 22:02

Sorry to laugh op 🤣🤣
Cats and dogs are the best….

Nobbynobbsknob · 03/07/2025 22:02

My weirdo of a fur ball ate mushrooms and lentils today just because they were there. She's been known to do daring sausage raids before.
At least it forces me to keep the kitchen clean and no plates in bedrooms.
She also likes prawn cocktail crisps.

It's a good job he doesn't like onion as it's toxic to cats!

FoodBagIsAtHome · 03/07/2025 22:20

I love cats they are arseholes but we love them. My previous cat ate part of a cooling roast chicken, she chewed through the mess protector. Then later ate part of my sandwich for work complete with clingfilm. She was in a bad way when we found her and rescued her. She was literally starving to death. The need to constantly eat never left her. We learnt to hide human food properly and to feed her little and often else she would make herself sick. Most amazing cat Ive ever met.

I was just scrolling down to say this! Cats have died after eating burger mince containing onions, so at least he didn’t take a bite out of a series of burgers!

Cats really are jerks. We used to have one that would hook a claw into the edge of a piece of toast, pull it to the edge of the plate and then flip it so the egg went flying across the room! Once, after she had a dental, I cooked egg specially for her. Did she want it? Of course not. She wanted biscuits…

PickAChew · 03/07/2025 22:26

We had one who would do a double act with our Irish Setter, when I was growing up. DM though that putting some fairy cakes on top of a tall larder cupboard to cool would save them from the dog but, no, the cat jumped up there, batted them down and the dog ate the lot, including most of the cases!

Ah yes, I had a rescue cat like this. Would eat anything. Broccoli. Uncooked pasta. Once brought a gigantic salami home in triumph. She was so delighted to be with us, and ate and ate until she was a little barrel on matchstick legs and genuinely couldn't get through the cat flap any more. Then we noticed the students next door had named their WiFi after her and she moved in with them as their fat little mascot. What a cat!

Selfsetfree · 03/07/2025 23:14

This made me chuckle! When some people get old they seem to think they can do what they like turns out it applies to cats to! I would have been annoyed if it was my pet op!

ohreallyIsee · 03/07/2025 23:20

I once left some crumpets on the side to defrost, when I came back dcat had nibbled very neatly right round the edges of them😂

WearyAuldWumman · 03/07/2025 23:22

I have to be honest...I guessed that the culprit was a cat, but was fearful to click on the thread just in case it turned out to be someone's husband.
