He took a bite of every single piece of chicken!!

Just venting. 16 year old cat. Normally very fussy and only eats his own food. NEVER bothers with our food. Hates spices, lemon, onion. Doesn't even eat chicken legs if you offer him.

This evening we had a couple of friends over. DP made chicken tagine, and left it on the counter before setting the table in the garden. The asshole cat has gone and sampled each piece of chicken. We had to throw away the whole thing and order dinner.

I mean I love him and have had him since he was a tiny kitten, but honestly I want to scream. How can you be such a bastard? DP thinks he is cute...

This is crazy! I see a lot of threads where poster’s cats are fussy and poster is buying all sorts to please it, yet here they are loving tomatoes and Chinese food. 🤣

We buy them all softs of toys and little houses too, but they turn their noses up and just want to sit in Amazon boxes

🤣🤣 It’s hilarious. I watch cats on YouTube, very entertaining. Here’s a short, toy is beneath his intellect!

I made salmon fishcakes, went to the kitchen for forgotten salt and pepper, my rescue dog of one week, snaffled them in seconds. I was left with side salad and a slice of lemon. She’s better now, as not in starvation mode.

Agapornis · 04/07/2025 19:52

@Wildhorsesdraggedme Re licking off the jelly/gravy, your guy is smart but grim! My cat does this when his cat flu (calicivirus) flares up (at least he has an excuse). To make sure he still gets some nutrients, I put it all in a blender so it's all purée. He happily licks it all up. Fed cat, no food waste.

Alternatively you could try a pâté type food, but they're usually more expensive.

MadKittenWoman · 04/07/2025 22:24

I've had cats that loved bread, spaghetti, raisins and red wine.

Papergirl1968 · 04/07/2025 23:09

My friend’s Irish Setter neatly licked all the cream off the trifle which had been placed - so they thought - out of his reach.
So neatly that friend thought she was going mad and although she was sure she had added the cream, she started to worry she’d forgotten doing so and was having sudden onset dementia!

Utterlyconfusednow · 04/07/2025 23:15

Spaghetti with a red wine tipple for a cat and a dog deconstructing a trifle 🤣 More please!

I used to cook my elderly cat a bit of steak on the BBQ before he died. He loved a sausage too. He used to see the BBQ going on and sit so nicely waiting for his bit of steak.

My little lady sat chewing my hair while I tried to sleep last night. Would have preferred it if she tried to catch the mosquito that was buzzing around the room

Grapes and raisins are extremely toxic to cats and can cause kidney failure even in small amounts

Phoebesparrow · 05/07/2025 08:54

My parents had a medium sized heinz 57 dog and my grandad had a jack Russell when I was growing up

My father would make his 3 sandwiches cut in half (so 6 smaller sandwiches) and nip to the loo, leaving the plate on the worktop

Every single time,he came back to 5 sandwiches

He went mental, thinking that either I was swiping his food (I would have been about2 years old and couldn't reach) or that my mother/grandad where playing tricks on him

This went in for months, with him getting more and more angry and the people he was accusing getting pissed off with him

One day,he'd had enough,so nipped to the loo as normal but hid and peeked out

The medium sized dog was reaching up,swiping and scoffing the sandwich within seconds-if she'd had more time, she would have gone for another to share with her mate tinker (the Jack Russell)

It's told as a funny story now but he was fuming at the time

I miss those dogs

Oh, it’s the voice of doom again. Do you ever post anything cheerful? Find an inkling of humour?

Try changing it up a bit fgs.

Cats are complete arseholes, I sympathise op.

LivelyFinch · 05/07/2025 09:51

My husband made a tuna pizza and foolishly left the room while it was cooling. Came back to find every bit of tuna had been licked off and the cat looking very happy. We had a takeaway pizza that night!

Dobbyatemysocks · 05/07/2025 10:17

I thought I was going mad when we first moved into our house because every morning we would find the fridge open.

this went on for weeks until one morning we came down to find the most beautiful grey and white cat curled up on one of the kitchen chairs and a half eaten pack of ham on the floor.

Turned out she was a stray (found this out after asking neighbours). We immediately offered her a home and it took a lot of hard work and patience to get her to realise that she had a home and loved.

Miss B is now the head of our household, she even bosses our two dogs around (staffy and chihuahua). She now sleeps curled up with the chihuahua every night on my bed. She goes on walks with us when we are walking the dogs.

We had to install a fridge lock but we absolutely adore her!

It’s true though those are among the foods toxic to cats same as onions and garlic.

  1. the poster who wrote about her cat loving raisins has not stated the cat is ill or dying. There are also other posters saying their cats love red wine and spaghetti. (I’m assuming the spaghetti was cooked in some kind of sauce).

  2. I posted what I did because the poster is the voice of doom without one ounce of humour.

Yes but hopefully others reading who are not aware of these things will now be aware.
I love a funny cat story but there’s always an opportunity to teach those that don’t know about cats and foods they shouldn’t eat.

I’m sure they will be reliably chastened.

Our cat dragged a huge rock solid vacuum packed Christmas turkey away while it was defrosting on a high bookshelf (to stop her having a go at it) -not sure what the plan was but we were alerted by the methodical thudding when she got to the stairs. Another year she put her pozzles in the pudding. They are a shower of thieving little shites, why am I laughing 😂
