Taxes to rise to fund PIP

1000 replies

Viviennemary · 27/06/2025 11:20

I just read this, Don't agree with this at all. PIP needs to be reformed. But not by introducing this two tier system. Sick of Labour already. Might have know they would revert to type. With all the infighting and disagreement so nothing ever gets done except back peddling, increased taxes and prices rises.

What about all the massive increases to military spending while they waste unthinkable amounts of money on bullshit that isn’t fit for purpose ?

hooverbob · 27/06/2025 11:54

@Badbadbunny well your right but look at the outrage over winter fuel payments. Pensioners with a household income of 70k can claim it all whilst young people look forward to a pension age of 68 as a minimum. They won't be getting free prescriptions at 60 and any winter fuel? unlikely.

Work does need to pay but...

Overthebow · 27/06/2025 11:52

I don’t agree with working people being the only people to get tax rises. It should be tax rises for everyone, or nothing.

I’m not sure this won’t just tank growth again.

I recieve pip I pay tax I work and only reason I can work is because I recieve a top up of pip I pay my own rent tax etc and I have worked always, pip pays for support I need to work, pip is a disability benefit, it's there for a reason, the new rules are a joke under new criteria even people with ms or those kind if conditions u till they become vegitabilized don't get it, utter disgrace

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 27/06/2025 11:55

Always the same, more tax on the workers.

No wonder people are leaving. You’d be mad to be a young, successful graduate in the UK now.

hooverbob · 27/06/2025 11:55

The NIC hike raised over £20billion - how much more do you want from working people?

Why do you think I want more tax on working people?

Look at the forecasted spend on social care, the NHS and defence over the next few years.

Taxes are going to increase regardless of whether I think they should or not 😆

hooverbob · 27/06/2025 11:58

If we are to increase taxes, then it has to be on unearned income, capital gains, wealth, etc rather than wages!

Of course but you think that's actually going to happen? People will vote for Reform because they prefer to think that you can have low tax and excellent services 🤔

Arrearing50 · 27/06/2025 12:00

Yes, taxes will increase and desperate tax payers will turn to reform..the main parties have got to up their ideas game.

hooverbob · 27/06/2025 12:05

They should at least look at a health & social care levy & maybe a defence one that everyone has to contribute too.

PandoraSocks · 27/06/2025 12:08

Oh we all know you hate people on disability benefits @Viviennemary

Can you provide evidence that taxes are going up solely because of PIP?

Sypony · 27/06/2025 12:09

Badbadbunny · 27/06/2025 11:50

As long as they're not levied on "ordinary working people". We need to spread the net, so either extend NIC to ALL income (including pensions, property letting, interest, etc), or scrap NIC and increase income tax. Scrap/reduce the tax exemptions on interest i.e. the £5k "savings allowance" and reduce the exemption on ISAs. We need people with income from investments rather than from working to at least pay the same tax on the same income otherwise we're just penalising workers. We need to "make work pay" - both major parties say it but neither actually do it!

Agree with this!

In my sector, a ton of high taxpayers are fleeing to countries where they will be appreciated.

Because there is too much disparity. It's not just about income but wealth & a lot of younger workers may have high incomes & pay a lot of tax but dont necessarily have much wealth. That's the problem, why wouldn't you move if you can.

I am seeing a lot of this too.

Technically very earnings, but very high taxation and excluded from eg childcare help means their disposable income isn’t much higher than if they earned 40% less.

Meanwhile… nowhere near affording the kind of family
home you’d expect because the prices are so insane.

A bit of a first world problem perhaps, but given there’s no way out of it while staying in the UK, I can understand while people leave.

And how does Reform propose to fund all its pie in the sky promises?

hooverbob · 27/06/2025 12:12

It's bullshit but it won't stop people voting because they want to believe it.

They don't need to.
.Can just handily blame immigrants.

I would stop PIP for all anxiety-related issues after 6 months, unless due to physical aggression / PTSD.

I don't think PIP should be awarded for anxiety and depression. The money should be put towards better counselling services on the NHS if mental health needs to be addressed.

So some people on high incomes are taking an attitude of "fuck all of you, I'm fine"? I'm shocked, SHOCKED.

Well, not that shocked.

hooverbob · 27/06/2025 12:15

Why should cuts to PIP only affect new claimants & not current ones?

MrsEndeavourMorse · 27/06/2025 12:15

I think PIP should have a cut off point. Millionaires can claim it. David Cameron did. It is in no way means tested. Stop giving benefits to people that wouldn't even notice it missing.

Thelnebriati · 27/06/2025 12:15

Looking forwards to all of you naysayers creating jobs suitable for disabled people. Crack on, and let us all know what you've done in your workplace.

hooverbob · 27/06/2025 12:16

That's such a reductive attitude. Why shouldn't a doctor move abroad if it means they can get on the housing ladder and have a nice quality of life?

Blanketenvy · 27/06/2025 12:16

TheAutumnCrow · 27/06/2025 11:32

I pay taxes including income tax and NI, and have done for many decades.

I receive PIP. It enables me to work.

Everyone pays taxes in some form, most commonly VAT. Indeed, lower-income individuals spend a larger proportion of their income on essential goods and services (like food, clothing, and utilities) which are subject to VAT, compared to higher-income individuals who have more disposable income to spend on non-essential items or on items that may be exempt or zero-rated.

Yeah same here. I work and pay tax, PIP supports me to do that and I would likely not be able to work at all without it.
It's really frustrating that changes to PIP is talked about in the context of "getting people back into work" whereas it supports a huge amount of people with disabilities TO work, cutting PIP for those people would not save money, just increase amount of people out of work on UC and placing more demands on social care to plug the gap that PIP payments fill.

Really? They work hard for their money. It's not inherited from daddy like Boris Johnson's. They pay for your roads, buses, NHS and get shit for it.

hooverbob · 27/06/2025 12:05

It won't be "everyone" though, will it? Those living on benefits will be exempt, as will pensioners. So it WILL just be yet another tax on workers.

PandoraSocks · 27/06/2025 12:18

Any chance of a link @Viviennemary to support the assertion in your thread title that taxes are going to rise solely because of PIP?

Because if you can't provide anything, one would suspect you are merely indulging in a bit of goading around your pet hate.
