I’m trying to remember the last time I used cash and it was April 5th to buy fuel. A friend owed me money and gave me cash.

i think it’s the only time this year I’ve spent cash

Today. I always keep some on me and use them in smaller shops.

I try to use cash everywhere apart from big businesses, I always pay cash to small businesses, helps avoid card fees

Also helps avoid paying tax.
I do use cash occasionally, mainly for tips. I know you can add tips to the bill but I feel cash gets to the server.
Never use tradesmen or businesses who say cash only. One of my number one pet hates is the phrase "cash is king", usually found on local FB pages.

Our tooth fairy has been known to do a transfer to a Monzo card 😂

This week to put money on the gas card as you have to have cash for that. Also at the launderette

You get nothing in Ireland for a fiver except a bag of crisps or a chocolate bar😢.

Nah, pot of tea, g-f toast and jam for that, all my pals get scones with cream and jam with their tea or coffee.

I also put €5 in the weekly church collection envelopes. Anything to resist a Chinese-style social credits system.

Yesterday at the hairdressers. Use cash in preference to cards whenever possible but accept that cards are a necessity in modern life.

InfiniteArmyofOctopi · 20/06/2025 11:32

The chip on my card hasn't been working so I have been using cash on the bus every week for a bit. Will need to give both DS £22 in cash tomorrow as they are getting their hair cut and the barber has just texted to say their machine is broken

DeanElderberry · 20/06/2025 11:39

If every cent you spend is done with cards, then what you buy, where you buy it, who else goes to the places where you spend - leaves you perfectly placed for this sort of tracking.

Today, to pay for a driving lesson.

2 days ago to pay the dogwalker and my mechanic. Mum gave me £100 for my birthday back in April. A local pub prefers cash to avoid card charges. Apart from that, it's really unusual for me to use cash.

I do wonder how the homeless people I see outside the supermarket are coping, still asking for spare change. I literally carry only my phone or a card if I know there's no signal in a country pub we go to.
