I’m trying to remember the last time I used cash and it was April 5th to buy fuel. A friend owed me money and gave me cash.

i think it’s the only time this year I’ve spent cash

This morning. Bought a t shirt in Primark and a cabbage in the greengrocers.

TBH I dont usually use cash but I found a random twenty in a handbag!😃

You know what they say...."Find a £20, buy a cabbage!"

Yesterday.
I'm trying to use it most of the time now, it's much easier to keep track of what l'm spending.

BeamMeUpCountMeIn · 18/06/2025 14:14

Yesterday. I use it every day. I even get petrol with it. It's easier to budget for day to day things.

I find it much harder to keep track of what I’m spending. If I spend on card, I can log into my online banking from my phone and see every transaction itemised. If I pay cash, I have to check receipts to see what I’ve spent and where.

The only cash I had was £1.10... which went in a charity bucket!

In the event of a terrorist cyber strike, the banks will be the first things to be hit to cause maximum destability. It is wise to keep some cash in the house at all times.

Having some cash in the house for emergencies is different to using it to pay for everything though. I’ve got cash in the house. I just haven’t used it in a shop for years!

BunnyRuddington · 18/06/2025 14:22

Monday but it was only £1.08.

pontivex · 18/06/2025 14:22

About twice since 2015 to buy small items off a children’s bake stall.
DHs mum gave us £200 about 6 months ago in cash. It’s still sitting there as we can’t get rid of it.

DontReplyIWillLie · 18/06/2025 14:24

Yesterday. A small bar I know doesn’t take cards. I tend to only get cash out when I’m going there, although I do sometimes use it for small purchases at the local shop. Oh, and our local Mr Whippy van only takes cash, so I need it if I fancy a 99 🍦

InfiniteArmyofOctopi · 18/06/2025 14:27

Yesterday in a taxi

House0fBamboo · 18/06/2025 14:34

Today at a car boot and will later at school fête.

EdisinBurgh · 18/06/2025 14:38

Use it or lose it.

I’d be interested to see the results of a mumsnet poll on whether people would care if we became a cashless society where hard currency could no longer be used.

shellyleppard · 18/06/2025 14:39

My local butchers and the hairdresser both prefer cash. I still keep some with me. Also my window cleaner is cash only

the80sweregreat · 18/06/2025 14:40

The local stall holders where I live would hate a cashless society! They will all just implode I think.

Orangeandpurpletulips · 18/06/2025 14:40

Quite a bit, as it's convenient to have cash for DC.

LindorDoubleChoc · 18/06/2025 14:41

Probably within the last week. Most likely to buy something cheap like an ice cream at the corner shop.

Nannyfannybanny · 18/06/2025 14:42

This morning. Went to a garden open in aid of charity for our local hospital.

As I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve used cash in the past few years, it wouldn’t bother me if I couldn’t use the hard currency that I don’t use anyway.

SwedishEdith · 18/06/2025 14:43

I can't remember if I have this year in the UK. I was asked to pay in cash for an item (less than a pound) the other week and I didn't have any. The shop owner let me have it and asked me to pay "next time". I have but it's completely put me off the shop. I don't want to start carrying cash again.

pizzaHeart · 18/06/2025 14:44

A few days ago : paid for taxi, DD’s club and something else’s in a shop, can’t remember as it was small.

Ponderingwindow · 18/06/2025 14:45

I had to get cash so my daughter had money for the vending machines in the lounge at a residential summer program she is attending. That required a trip to the bank because I could not find enough small bills around the house.

LoveItaly · 18/06/2025 14:47

I try to use cash frequently, the thought of a cashless society terrifies me.

Especially since most central banks are working on CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currencies) that would likely mean total control and monitoring of an individual’s spending by governments, or at least the ability to do so. This is not a conspiracy theory, it is a very real possibility. The ability to programme CDBC, for example with an expiry date or geographical range you can spend it in, is openly talked about.

justkeepswimingswiming · 18/06/2025 14:47

Yesterday; cash is king.

Hadalifeonce · 18/06/2025 14:48

Today, for a coffee.
