I’m trying to remember the last time I used cash and it was April 5th to buy fuel. A friend owed me money and gave me cash.

i think it’s the only time this year I’ve spent cash

About 90 minutes ago, paid cash for my nails then for the trolley in Aldi.

Edited to answer my own question.

I don't really watch news but I think the electronic financial systems crashed and payments couldn't be taken 😬 For a number of days as well.

I don't know, but DC1 needs some for school tomorrow and I don't have enough!

Ginmonkeyagain · 18/06/2025 12:31

March - in Cologne when I went to an old fashioned jazz bar that only took cash.

I live rurally, and I have to say its hard to find a working cash dispenser anymore. There used to be one in the local Co-Op, but they fell out over the amount it cost them to 'house' it - so that went. The one at the petrol garage is 9 times out of 10 vandalised. The one at Tesco (about 10 miles away) is often out of use.

There is a post office 'kinda' local - so I have to make a special trip there when in need.

To day and most days

Livingthebestlife · 18/06/2025 12:35

Every day. There's always something that needs cash. The school. Local shops, cafes that don't have machines, takeaways that don't have online ordering or card machine, always some sort of charity collection locally, the bus, train, just so much, I prefer to use my card and wish we'd get with the times here where I live.

BashfulClam · 18/06/2025 12:36

In May before my holiday I knew I was going to get hair, waxing and nails so I took money out to cover it so I didn’t spend it accidentally…have had £30 in my purse since then as I rarely use cash. It’s much easier to just tap my Apple Watch and not have to get my card or phone out.

Pre-Covid! I hate touching money

afaloren · 18/06/2025 12:37

Probably when we were in Europe a week ago. Before that I have no idea. Hate cash.

Does you train company have an app, I buy using Apple Pay every time I get the train. Much easier and I can’t lose my ticket like I have with paper copies (have ADHD).

caringcarer · 18/06/2025 12:37

Gave homeless cash coins yesterday.

Growlybear83 · 18/06/2025 12:38

Yesterday, as I've not been out so far today. I generally use cash for very small amounts, and several of our local takeaways will only accept cash. However, I think it's probably been a couple of years now since I last wrote a cheque.

Heartofglass12345 · 18/06/2025 12:39

About half an hour ago in our local bakery. Most of the local shops here only take cash.

GraceUnderPresure · 18/06/2025 12:39

Last time I used it was yesterday, and most days before that.
I prefer cash, find it much easier for budgeting - if my purse is empty I can't spend it!

cryinglaughing · 18/06/2025 12:39

Use cash for everything but petrol and big supermarket shop.

Cash is king.

BashfulClam · 18/06/2025 12:40

Although we do have a cash jar in the house that we each stick £10 in a month for emergencies. Used money from that after the last big storm when our guttering broke apart.

squashyhat · 18/06/2025 12:40

Last week. I bought cherries at a roadside stall, and DH and I treated ourselves to a pint in the sunshine with cash MIL had given him for petrol used in running her to a few appointments. Before that probably India in January.

LordJohnGrey · 18/06/2025 12:42

Pre covid, have had £10.00 in my purse since then but not needed to use it.

TheMasterplan23 · 18/06/2025 12:44

About 30 mins ago at my local shop. I always use cash where I can and it royally pisses me off when certain places refuse it.

FragrantJasmine · 18/06/2025 12:47

About 2 years ago. A used a dry cleaner that wanted cash below £20. I had to go find a cash point, but not until the following day as I never have my bank card. It was a pain and I haven’t used that dry cleaner again.

It pisses me off when shops have signs saying ‘we prefer cash’. Paying by card is more convenient for me, and I’m the customer!

PickAChew · 18/06/2025 12:48

Last week. I use it for small local businesses and also need a steady stream of change for DS2.
