Getting a tad nervous about Iran and Isreal if I’m honest

Is ww3 going to kick off? Iran have hit the US embassy in Israel and now trumps threatening direct military action.
My Mom has just come back from Cyprus and last night they saw missiles 😟

Where do you get the news that the US embassy has been hit?
None of the news feeds I read have this.
Also, can you see missiles from Cyprus? I would have thought the distance was too great.

theclampits · 16/06/2025 11:14

The times are reporting the us embassy has been hit.
And yes I would’ve thought that too but they were intercepted in Paphos

Yes I feel nervous and a bit depressed about the world to be honest. A flippant part of me thinks "yeah, let them destroy each other". Then those of us who can actually get along with each other will be able to carry on with our lives. Not that simple, these issues are very serious I know.

veiledsentiments · 16/06/2025 11:17

You can see the missiles from Cyprus. I live here and have seen them every night for the past 4 days. The nearest point from Cyprus to Israel is just over 300 Km.

I tend to agree ! It’s just an absolute shit show isn’t it.

Im avoiding thinking about it. Its not like anything I do will have any effect on the situation so I choose to just live my life in blissful ignorance!

Let’s just hope KS has the sense to not get us involved although I think he wants to be liked so will tell Don and Ben he’s got their backs 🤦

^This if you can.

The world is such a depressing place- I don’t know what world leaders want- should go in a room and fight it out.
All these bombs going off, but please let me just recycle my can of pop and turn the tap off whilst brushing my teeth.

LittleGlowingOblong · 16/06/2025 11:33

This article worried me. I looked it up and there are about 500 million firearms in the US - that’s over 120 guns per 100 people.

I know I’m drifting from the OP’s topic of the Middle East but I see it all as part of the same ginormous clusterfuck.

I really hope our government doesn’t involve us - any further than mediation, peacemaking/keeping.

I saw he’s sending fighter jets to Isreal? And I just thought oh why!! Surely they’ve got enough of their own ? It just really gets us deep into it and I would bet most of the uk think the same

I just wish women could take over for a little while. Calm things down. Have some cheese and wine. Organise a few things and have it all sorted in a few days.

I'm a little bit like this ... but we have a cruise booked around the Greek islands in 4 weeks and I'm worried about that. 😩 What are people's thoughts on this? I'm thinking of giving it 2 more weeks then if there's no improvement looking to change it

i'd be putting off going anywhere near but not sure how close they are? Geography is not my strong point

Meetmeundertheclock · 16/06/2025 11:59

@theclampits Who do you think has sent jets to Israel?
We have staged some of ours into our base at Akrotiri Cyprus (Probably) We might also have sent some to our ally Oman to reinforce keeping Straits of Hormuz open..

veiledsentiments · 16/06/2025 12:02

The Cyprus press say the additional fighter jets are most likely here in Cyprus, but cannot get confirmation on this. They have 2 bases here.

This is my thinking, Tui have said they will not allow it to go ahead if it's unsafe, I'm giving it a couple of weeks then will look to change if no improvement.

Both Netanyahu and Khameini are angry old men running out of good choices. They are on the ropes politically and Netanyahu is embroiled in a criminal trial. Going to war is wearily predictable of them and very dangerous because Israel has nuclear weapons and Iran has allies with them. Trump's difficulties are both less acute than theirs and more serious in the long-term, because he's turning the most powerful economy in the world into a dumpster fire and the more he can distract attention from that, the better for him. I agree with what people are saying, its a terrifying mess.

DaisyDoo09 · 16/06/2025 12:03

I’m sue to fly to Dubai on Saturday and I’m scared stiff .

LittleGlowingOblong · 16/06/2025 12:04

I’m also feeling nervous bc I feel the UK is overdue karma. Palestine was a British protectorate within my parents’ lifetimes. Our complicity in the situations in Iraq and Afghanistan is shameful. Our standing with Ukraine is not, but it’s still courting trouble.

We have such a long history of colonisation but here we still are, relatively safe on our wee island. Long may it continue but I feel nervous 😥

I have this eerie feeling that’s what’s happening is not only changing the present, and the future, but is also re-casting the past.

Couldn’t agree more

I was on another thread querying whether this will impact on holidays to Cyprus as we have one booked for August. All the reports of seeing missiles from the island is really scary
