Getting a tad nervous about Iran and Isreal if I’m honest

Is ww3 going to kick off? Iran have hit the US embassy in Israel and now trumps threatening direct military action.
My Mom has just come back from Cyprus and last night they saw missiles 😟

It's making me really nervous. I'm just trying not to think about it, and I'm generally a news junkie.
I'm worried about terrorist attacks. It's all so depressing.

henlake7 · 16/06/2025 11:28

Im avoiding thinking about it. Its not like anything I do will have any effect on the situation so I choose to just live my life in blissful ignorance!

Agree with this, there’s not a lot I can do so am just focussing on my own life.

GloriousGarden · 17/06/2025 21:20

Hopefully it's just posturing from the US and they'll get a deal, or the regime change they're seeking to enforce. I do not want to wake up to some Armageddon. Where is China standing on all this? Pakistan? Saudi? I admit to feeling nervous.

MushMonster · 17/06/2025 21:23

Ivam really worried about terrorists attacks too. Particularly with this new type of attacks, where a single person with a simple knife or a car has taken on crowds. If they do want to spread fear, they will not even bother to organise. They can copy this lone wolf style and use psychological war, rather than bombs.
That is why I am following the news and sharing some thoughts. To feel a bit of company.

Trump sends jets to Middle East and demands Iran’s ‘unconditional surrender’

So far at least , it doesn't seem China or Russia are very interested in wading in and it's difficult to see how Iran can do much without them. Iran's capabilities are already really diminished after Israel's attacks on Hamas and Hezbollah, and the one on Iran a few months ago. They've already wiped out a load of the top team ("Iran leader Khamenei sees his inner circle hollowed out by Israel", Reuters). So far Iran's retaliation seems subdued, and they've already started murmuring about ceasefires. Maybe it's just naked optimism, but I feel we may be seeing the end of the ayatollahs. I imagine if that is the case, the terrorist threat may be significantly heightened for a while. But... Iran could be free, Lebanon could be free, Palestine could be free, maybe even Yemen. That may be far too much to hope for, but I genuinely think it's more likely than WW3. I just can't imagine why Iran's allies would bother to get involved at this point, and without them it's difficult to see how the Iranian regime can survive.

Israel-Iran latest: Trump demands ‘unconditional surrender’ from Tehran

Live updates: US president also said that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, was an ‘easy target’ in posts on Truth Social

Do you think American will get involved in military action?

It is a good question. I would love to hear from others.
Today, US view on this confluct is rather murky. CNN has published https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/17/politics/israel-iran-nuclear-bomb-us-intelligence-years-away, mentioned also in the Guardian
This would not match with Trump talk on the matter.
There is some noise from US congressman about Trump not being able to start a war without Congress approval.
He has left the G7, asks for unconditional surrender from Iran.
I am not sure. Too much posturing and smoke thrown on it.
I hope they do not. And I am praying UK does not.

MushMonster · 17/06/2025 21:31

I hope you are right @OtherS and it stops soon, to never start again.

TwoTierBbq · 17/06/2025 22:59

@OtherS I'm sure someone will be along soon to shoot you down in flames but I agree,I hope this is the beginning of a new era

  • whilst some in Iran are old enough to remember what it used to be like and could be like in terms of freedoms

It’s Iraq and the WMDs all over again. Except this time, USA has a lapdog to do the dirty jobs so they can claim the throne. This is what Trump was planning when he ripped apart Obama’s deal.
Netenyahu has been crying nukes since about 30 years now I think. While building them himself and doing a genocidal campaign of terror in both Gaza and the West Bank.

I’m also feeling nervous bc I feel the UK is overdue karma. Palestine was a British protectorate within my parents’ lifetimes. Our complicity in the situations in Iraq and Afghanistan is shameful. Our standing with Ukraine is not, but it’s still courting trouble.

We have such a long history of colonisation but here we still are, relatively safe on our wee island. Long may it continue but I feel nervous 😥

I have this eerie feeling that’s what’s happening is not only changing the present, and the future, but is also re-casting the past.

Edited

The UK has been invaded plenty of times. Palestine belongs to the Jews who were ejected by the Christians. The Christians then tried to give the land back but the Muslims settled on it. Karma can't count. Please think logically. Your feelings have gone in to overdrive.

I just wish women could take over for a little while. Calm things down. Have some cheese and wine. Organise a few things and have it all sorted in a few days.

This would be perfect instead of the macho sabre rattling too much testosterone bollocks.
There are many powerful men competing to be top dog.
Women could sort it all out, make peace and end wars. It saddens me what kind of world we live in now.

MushMonster · 18/06/2025 06:37

Well, the dichotomy between US intelligence reports and Trump-Netanyahu take on Iran nuclear plan is still showing in the news.
Gone are the days when if governments were going to bomb someone, they would have agreed beforehand, and present a uniform united face.
It is quite confusing to me to which is the actual position of US on this.

What’s happened?

DaisyDoo09 · 20/06/2025 00:39

the jist of it is there cancellations and delays and there’s a very high risk of terrorism .

MushMonster · 20/06/2025 07:03

Trump has given himself two weeks to decide whether he will join Israel in the war. So it sounds like they predict the war to keep going at least more than a week.
Or either he wants it to finish without having to join or he is expecting to go on for a long time.

SummerEve · 20/06/2025 07:19

Well I am at Heathrow now and all seems ok so far

MushMonster · 20/06/2025 07:48

Best luck Summer. Fingers crossed for you. I hope you do not have any delays. And have lots of fun!

SummerEve · 20/06/2025 08:07

Thank you, Sat at the gate now and I must admit I am feeling a tad anxious now! They seem to have beefed up security as well.

MushMonster · 20/06/2025 08:16

You will be at Dubai soon enough.
Wishing you do not face delays on your trip.
It is likely you will see extra security and passport checks on your journey.

SummerEve · 20/06/2025 16:58

Just landed and at baggage reclaim!

MushMonster · 20/06/2025 19:34

Well done Summer!
Have a good time.
(We are absolutely boiling here today. We could be at the same temperature and all)

SummerEve · 20/06/2025 21:03

Thank you very much! It’s been dark since we got here so looking forward to seeing it in daytime. It’s VERY hot outside though. We fly off to Australia on Sun morning so we have to make the most of tomorrow.
