… Deborah, Annabel too.

Was your name inspired by a song?

Growing up, one of my friends hated her name ‘Kayleigh’ as everyone (it seemed) would think it was hilarious and oh so original to sing the Marillion track at her.

Currently, one of DC’s best friends is called Ruby, but loves her name and doesn’t give two 💩 when people start “going all Kaiser Chiefs” (their words; teen speak) on her!

dd's middle name from a blondie song , not denis denis

SwedishEdith · 30/05/2025 18:34

I'd associate Ruby with Kenny Rodgers.

I think my parents may have been influenced by a song of the time. But it was a nice song and I like my name.

IntelligentInputDarling · 30/05/2025 18:34

Forgot to say I am one of those names in the thread title, but never bothered me as it’s just a list of names and not about my name specifically, I suppose.

No but I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all evening now.

SayItLikeItIsLetsKeepItReal · 30/05/2025 18:38

My DD is called Ruby after ‘Ruby Tuesday’ by The Rolling Stones. We also love the Kaiser Chiefs’ song. My DS is fuming he’s not named after a song 😂

My best friend at school was also called ‘Kayleigh’ after the classic track you mentioned.

HowardTJMoon · 30/05/2025 18:39

My DD's name is from a Cocteau Twins song

LlynTegid · 30/05/2025 18:40

Thankfully not. I can understand why someone whose name relates to a song can be annoyed. At school in my class, Gordon got fed up when the Jilted John song with the line 'Gordon is a moron' came out.

Redheadedstepchild · 30/05/2025 18:40

My mum's, "Name song" was reprised by Amy Winehouse about fifteen years ago. It was hugely popular whilst she was in hospital having her gallbladder taken out.

There were complications and she ended up being in for two months. She was in pain, hugely annoyed with the situation and not in a particularly good mood.

The nurses used to sing, 'her' song to her constantly, thinking it would cheer her up. They clearly did not know my mother very well.

It most certainly did not.

StoorieHoose · 30/05/2025 18:41

i had to endure Shakin’ Steven sing my name

Not2identifying · 30/05/2025 18:41

One of my siblings and I were not named after songs but there are well known songs that have our names in the titles. Nobody ever mentioned it but one of my parents would sing the choruses to us on random occasions which is a memory that makes me smile.

sheknowsitstoolate · 30/05/2025 18:43

My name’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious inspired by Mary poppins

EleanorReally · 30/05/2025 18:45

there is a song, re-mixed with a swear word,
i liked the original

HeySugarSugar · 30/05/2025 18:45

My name comes from a Gilbert O’Sullivan song and yes it is still occasionally sung to me by people of a certain age 😄

Canshehavewaferthinham · 30/05/2025 18:46

I wasn't named after it but once they'd decided on the name, my parents were pleased that It's also referenced in a Gordon Lightfoot song.

Sunnyday321 · 30/05/2025 18:48

I have a name that is also in a song .
I've never had it sung back to me even as a teenager .

ChimneyPot · 30/05/2025 18:48

A song that featured my name a lot was released when I was a young baby.
Apparently my mother really did not like it when people assumed my name was inspired by the song.

It was very cruel of your parents to name you Greendoor.

newrubylane · 30/05/2025 18:52

Ruby is one of my nicknames - hence the username - based on the KC song. I'm actually named after an actress, not a song.

fairislecable · 30/05/2025 18:55

When my DS was in sixth form a new girl came in and whilst standing at the front of the class she was introduced as Layla.

Cue all the 17 year old boys standing up doing air guitar and singing the Clapton song. With suitable twanginess!

DappledThings · 30/05/2025 18:55

Not the point of the thread but I was thinking again just the other day how much I want the actresses Jennifer Aniston and Philippa Soo to appear in something together and their names to appear next to each other on the poster.

Piginapokiee · 30/05/2025 18:59

Is it too late to say I‘m sorry?

angelinawasrobbed · 30/05/2025 19:00

My sister is named after a pretty word in one of the Schubert lieder. Turns out it means fishing rods

PauliesWalnuts · 30/05/2025 19:00

My name is usually sung at weddings, boozy funeral wakes, at England matches and half way through Boston Red Sox games.

Glashouse · 30/05/2025 19:01

I'm named after a Fleetwood mac song. Unfortunately I don't like the song. I hated my name growing up although is got alot more popular in recent years.

CombatBarbie · 30/05/2025 19:03

Every single time I have to give my full name, someone around me (usually strangers tbh) "oh cecilia, you're breaking my heart......"
