… Deborah, Annabel too.

Was your name inspired by a song?

Growing up, one of my friends hated her name ‘Kayleigh’ as everyone (it seemed) would think it was hilarious and oh so original to sing the Marillion track at her.

Currently, one of DC’s best friends is called Ruby, but loves her name and doesn’t give two 💩 when people start “going all Kaiser Chiefs” (their words; teen speak) on her!

I was named after a artist who sang the power of love.

Valerie? I lived in France for several years and had a boyfriend named Valery, much to the amusement of my friends.

Yup. My mum has the impressive moniker of:

(Drum roll)

Valerie Pearl Marjorie.

My daughter was not named after The Damned famous song. My cousin’s husband gave me a copy after I announced her name.
luckily I like the song 😁

Oh, here's another good French name. The architect of my new build flat that I bought about twenty years ago was called, 'Hyacinthe.'

A sixty odd years old man, not a bucket or a bouquet.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/05/2025 21:22

Not my name but my DD

paranoiaofpufflings · 30/05/2025 21:23

Since I outed my name on another thread recently I’ll add. My name is Lola, not named after any song and no one ever made reference to Barry Manilow or the Kinks!

But I went to school with a Rhiannon, who was named after the fleetwood mac song which her parents loved but she hated her name because it was so “unusual”.

Muggytoday · 30/05/2025 21:25

Yes my name is from a ‘60s song but fortunately it’s not very well-known so people don’t sing it or anything 😂

My high school class had every one of the Beautiful South names except Shirley!

SecondStarOnTheRight · 30/05/2025 21:33

Not named after a song but used to play a song with my name in it on the jukebox in pub when I was little.

But I do wonder how many Stacey's there are named after the song?

I have friend named Lola. The amount of times she gets asked if she’s a showgirl 🙄🙄🙄

PeatandDieselfan · 30/05/2025 21:48

I wasn't named after a song, but there was a reaaaally annoying song that featured my (extremely common in my generation but I don't think it's been mentioned yet on) name, that old men used to sing at me when I was too young to tell them to f off. Then the Scissor Sisters had their 5 minutes of fame and finally there was a (relatively) cool song to sing with my name...

shellyleppard · 30/05/2025 21:52

@ScribbblyGum you won the prize 🏆 🏆 😍

honeylulu · 30/05/2025 21:56

My daughter is called Arabella after the Arctic Monkeys song that came out when I was pregnant. (I always liked the name but husband originally rejected it as "too posh" ... until the song.)

I recently told a friend at work that my daughter was named after an AM song. She said "what, you called her Mardy Bum?"
That would suit her actually.

PLHJ84 · 30/05/2025 21:57

At every family party growing up the “name song” got played as if it was a joyous, happy party song & not a sad one about young lovers & how he died trying to make enough money to buy her an engagement & died in the process. It used to make me cry. Not as well known nowadays i think although scissor sisters have released one as well. I bloodu hate the name!

Wildflowerswildhorses · 30/05/2025 21:58

I named my dd after a Trooper song. Years later we met the band. Bunch of drunks, not impressed. Still like the name though and so does she.

cheesychipsontheoche · 30/05/2025 21:58

Son is named from the song “we let the stars go”. Beautiful and works with his dad’s family as well.

PeatandDieselfan · 30/05/2025 21:59

@PLHJ84 I think we have the same name! 🤣

Mine too! Was soooo annoying! Every time I turned round cos someone said my name they'd be saying "not YOU!"

MmeChoufleur · 30/05/2025 22:04

I know a couple of Nikitas, after it became popular from the Elton John song, before he came out. The parents obviously never realised that Nikita was a man’s name.

My name comes from a Gilbert O’Sullivan song and yes it is still occasionally sung to me by people of a certain age 😄
