… Deborah, Annabel too.

Was your name inspired by a song?

Growing up, one of my friends hated her name ‘Kayleigh’ as everyone (it seemed) would think it was hilarious and oh so original to sing the Marillion track at her.

Currently, one of DC’s best friends is called Ruby, but loves her name and doesn’t give two 💩 when people start “going all Kaiser Chiefs” (their words; teen speak) on her!

My name comes from a Gilbert O’Sullivan song and yes it is still occasionally sung to me by people of a certain age 😄

My name is usually sung at weddings, boozy funeral wakes, at England matches and half way through Boston Red Sox games.

Caroline?

I'm named after a Fleetwood mac song. Unfortunately I don't like the song. I hated my name growing up although is got alot more popular in recent years.

My mum's name is shared with a Fleetwood Mac song too. (She was born first!)

QueenofLouisiana · 30/05/2025 19:16

People usually assume I’m named after a singer. Hated it as a teen. It would make me a good ten years younger than my actual age, so would live the same supposition now!

DinoLil · 30/05/2025 19:18

I'm named after a princess. Fortunately, not from the British royal family!

Bitchesbelike · 30/05/2025 19:19

my son is named after a band (although his name is mentioned in one song)

TwentyKittens · 30/05/2025 19:20

I know a woman in her forties named Roxanne after the Police song

No but I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all evening now.

Yeah, thanks a lot op😂
Another earworm to annoy my family

I was named after an Everley Brothers hit.

Tenducks · 30/05/2025 19:25

My sister is named Mary for a Tom Jones song from 1967. Hair of gold and lips like cherries. Mum used to sing it to her. Aw.

I was named after the heroine from an opera. Thankfully a shortened version which is a totally normal name in its own right.

Not a song but I'm named after Stevie Nicks (not Stevie, her real name). Mt sad was obsessed with her!

There are worse things than having a, 'song' name. Back in the day, as it were, in Manchester, (not an irrelevant detail, I'm building the atmosphere of the scene, trust me.) a male friend of mine met his future MIL for the first time and in a fit of nerves tried to compliment her by saying she had, "A young sounding name."

This was already a bit of a socially awkward mistake for obvious reasons but then the evening crashed and burned when she replied, "My real name is Myra but I changed it."

shellyleppard · 30/05/2025 19:36

I like to think my name is inspired by the Beatles song 🙏❤️

@Redheadedstepchild That made me wince and laugh simultaneously.

Snap! My Mum loved the song in her teens, and always said she'd use the name if she had a daughter.

purpleme12 · 30/05/2025 19:39

Mine was in no way inspired by a song

But people have been known to adapt that kaiser chief song to my name and I quite love it

TeacheeTeacherson · 30/05/2025 19:40

My DD has a friend called Eileen, I make so many jokes, like ‘What does her mum shout on sports day? What do you think her mum says when she’s being slow getting ready for school?’ Etc

juststrutting · 30/05/2025 19:41

My kids names were all chosen if there was a Thomas the Tank engine character, and I still have the figurine I bought them all when they were born. (And the wooden tracks…)

EleanorReally · 30/05/2025 18:45

there is a song, re-mixed with a swear word,
i liked the original

I think I know this one. I’m afraid we say the sweary line when the name is mentioned in our house, it’s a long standing joke. But, we’d never actually say it to or about someone we knew with the name!

Yes I have a Ruby because of the Kaiser Chiefs! The song was on all the time the summer I was pregnant. We loved sing along to it in the car
