… Deborah, Annabel too.

Was your name inspired by a song?

Growing up, one of my friends hated her name ‘Kayleigh’ as everyone (it seemed) would think it was hilarious and oh so original to sing the Marillion track at her.

Currently, one of DC’s best friends is called Ruby, but loves her name and doesn’t give two 💩 when people start “going all Kaiser Chiefs” (their words; teen speak) on her!

He used to bellow it out when driving. He actually had a reasonable voice and had heard loads of 50s & early 60s music through his Mum, but I'd want to shrivel up and disappear when we'd hit traffic lights just as the chorus was coming, as he'd make random people waiting to cross or walking along jump out of their skin.

🤣🙈 I don’t mind some of the 50s/60s/70s music and liked the music at parties - just not that song lol. It’s not even a happy song which makes ir worse!

I chose my youngest son’s name because it’s the middle name of my dh and my lovely late grandad. It’s the name of a musical that I love and when I hear the title song it makes me even happier that I chose it.

cheapskatemum · 31/05/2025 15:49

@MyKingdomForACat Oliver? Hopefully not with an exclamation mark after it.

cheapskatemum · 31/05/2025 15:57

According to DM, I was named after Katie’s friend in the children’s books “What Katie Did” & “What Katie Did Next”. John Lennon wrote a beautiful song with my name as its title. There’s also a Eurythmics’ song as she’s a character in Orwell’s 1984. I can’t remember anyone ever singing either of them to me. I would say they’re both quite difficult melodies to sing, so maybe that’s why?

I also have had this and even worse other “hilarious” people of a certain age sing this to me!

I was born in the 60s, name from a song. My mum chose my name because she didn’t know anyone else with it -there were three in my class at senior school and more in my year 😩
It hasn’t been mentioned here yet

JackJarvisEsq · 31/05/2025 17:53

MaryTheTurtle · 31/05/2025 18:21

I can’t even get a named anything in the shops and the seaside with my name on so I’ve zero chance of getting it in a song.
Although I once got a bookmark with my name on it fromThorpe Park a thousand years ago - lost the thing before I got home

purpleme12 · 31/05/2025 18:22

To be fair we never find anything in the shops with my child's name on but there's still a song about her name!

stample · 31/05/2025 18:51

IntelligentInputDarling · 14/06/2025 20:48

Me too. I hated it then and used my middle name from starting college. I do have a grudging like of it now though as it’s quite rare.

I'm named after a Fleetwood mac song. Unfortunately I don't like the song. I hated my name growing up although is got alot more popular in recent years.

Hi Rhiannon/Sara!

I was named after a artist who sang the power of love.

Hopefully Jennifer and not Huey...

Not a song but ds is called Joel after Billy Joel.

LuckyShark · 14/06/2025 21:19

When I was pregnant I was obsessed with my DC having a name song. My name song is a terribly embarrassing 80s hit, though I've found a nice obscure one now. DH has a brilliant one as does my BFF

I was told many times over I was having a girl.... I had loads of really meaningful names picked out with meaningful lyrical songs

Then I had a boy and panicked. He retrospectively got a song, it's more for a nickname of his real name but kind of suits his personality.

My favourite name for a song is Sweet Baby James by James Taylor but a friend had literally just had a James or he would have been James.

My son is named after the singer Joshua kadison
Nobody seems to have heard of him but I love the song 'picture postcards from LA'

Around the time 'Ruby' by the Kaiser chiefs came out,28 of us from the school playground (our kids where at the school not us!) fell pregnant at the same time
(I'm convinced they put something in the water lol)
All bar one where girls-mine was a mollie,my mates kid was a sara and every single other baby was called Ruby
A few years later, about half the class went by Ruby A,Ruby B,Ruby C...

I love Picture Postcards, and the other side "Jessie".

pointythings · 14/06/2025 21:33

Well, let's just say my parents got there many many years before Chris Rea did, and I use an accepted Dutch abbreviation anyway.

Julia. Love the Lennon song.

Katie’s friend was Cecily I thought? But it’s many many years since I read those books. I wonder if they are still read.
