What would you bar on MN

Happyeachday · 16/05/2025 18:50

Lighthearted obviously .

So if you could bar anything emojis a topic etc on mumsnet what would it be.

I would bar all grammar checkers you know the ones that quote you and tell you to go back to school instant bar.

The constant treads about child maintenance.

And the double standards that women are always right on here.

What would you bar on mumsnet.

OP posts:

You do realise you just did a wall of unbroken text!?!

Gosh, no, did I? 😂😂

FiveDinnerFelix · 16/05/2025 22:18

Middleagedstriker · 16/05/2025 22:03

I would ban people, that moan about people, that quote the OP.

They very obviously actually are the type of people that quote the OP. 😁

I don’t think I’ve ever quoted the OP, I just don’t get why an extra second scrolling past is such a problem. The people who are constantly posting only to tell others not to quote the OP also cause more scrolling. 🤣 So ban the fuckers 😂😂😂

notatinydancer · 16/05/2025 22:22

‘What did they say when you …’?
No ? At the end of a sentence.

sprigatito · 16/05/2025 22:27

I would ban posters who:

  1. deliberately put the boot in when a mother is being abused and desperate for support; comments like “why on earth did you have a baby with him” and “if you don’t leave RIGHT NOW you are as bad as he is”. It’s so cruel, unhelpful and stupid.

  2. troll-hunt on threads where the OP is clearly upset and vulnerable, bringing up previous threads and picking apart every piece of “evidence” like a pound shop Poirot. If you think it’s a troll, report it to MNHQ. If you’re wrong, you’re just hurting someone for the sake of it.

  3. decide that they alone have the solution to someone’s problem, then if that advice isn’t immediately and uncritically accepted, turn on the OP and savage them for refusing to help themselves, basically telling them it serves them right that they are suffering. I saw multiple instances of this on a thread yesterday and it was revolting.

FiveDinnerFelix · 16/05/2025 22:30

I’d also ban people that are irresponsible with animals. It annoys me when someone, for example, knows that that their existing cat doesn’t like other cats, but they want another, so put their wants first and get one anyway. When the inevitable happens and there are problems, they then rehome the cat and expect sympathy. Nope, fuck right off.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 16/05/2025 22:32

Posters who only ever post on one type of thread. I don't know why it annoys me so much, but it does.

MignonsMorceaux · 16/05/2025 22:33

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 16/05/2025 22:32

Posters who only ever post on one type of thread. I don't know why it annoys me so much, but it does.

How would you know this? Even if you are searching people's usernames, they could change them.

HeatwaveToNightshade · 16/05/2025 22:33

MaryGreenhill · 16/05/2025 22:07

Trolls, perverts, narcs and ppl who resurrect Zombie threads.

I have to confess, I have come dangerously close to resurrecting a zombie thread or two. I search for information about something because I don’t want to get annihilated for starting ‘another’ thread on the subject. After scrolling for a while, I completely forget that it isn’t a current thread and go to comment, only to have a ‘doh’ moment. So … I would ban people who get all arsey and say ‘not another thread about this’ etc.

I would also ban people who tell the OP to ‘Google it’ when they ask for information - on a fucking chat forum🙄

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 16/05/2025 22:34

Restricting it to lighthearted ones...

Quoting the OP

People who don't understand words like "most" or "rarely," e.g. quoting someone who said "most people don't X" and saying "well I do X so you're wrong"

The nauseating D acronyms (initialisms)

"Could they have autism/ADHD?" Instant lifetime ban

Anyone who says "we need a diagram" on a parking thread

The Royal Family topic

"Line eyes"

"Nub theory"

Honestly I don't know why I'm here, it's fucking irritating in general.

FiveDinnerFelix · 16/05/2025 22:39

MignonsMorceaux · 16/05/2025 22:33

How would you know this? Even if you are searching people's usernames, they could change them.

Maybe people name change but I know what the pp means.

Some users post hundreds of posts a week on the Meghan and Harry threads. I think mumsnet would be helping these posters if they put their account on some sort of ‘pause and cool down’. 🤣

FiveDinnerFelix · 16/05/2025 22:44

Maddy70 · 16/05/2025 21:28

Transphobic posts. Honestly it's disturbing and anyone with a fairer viewpoint is shot down on flames. I would actually get rid of the feminism board. It's so extreme. It's far from supporting feminism

It depends what people class a transphobic. It should not be seen as transphobia for saying transwomen are men as that is just factually correct. It should not be seen as transphobic as saying that tranwomen have no place in women’s safe spaces. I’ve seen posters being called transphobic for those things but those posts should never be banned.

Clafoutie · 16/05/2025 22:54

I would want to ban:

” use your words” - it just seems so belittling and nasty.

The C- word. I don’t think I’ll ever get to a point of not hating this word, even though I know it has been ‘reclaimed’ in some ways.

ninjahamster · 16/05/2025 22:56

Benefits bashing. Transphobia.

OneFineDay13 · 17/05/2025 07:50

Happyeachday · 16/05/2025 20:35

DIL DH DSD DS DP DEXP DEXH CM STBX SAHM etc can we use words and not morse code all bared.

I really struggle with these codes

OneFineDay13 · 17/05/2025 07:53

ARichtGoodDram · 16/05/2025 21:15

Fake misunderstanding when someone spells something wrong or uses a wrong word.

Sometimes it's just eye-rollingly rude.

However, sometimes it's downright vile. Will never forget the poor poster who posted that she'd been punched in the face by her partner and she was panicking about finances because they'd just "brought" a house and all her savings were used for the deposit.

A very regular poster posted in the second or third reply "I'm confused, you brought your house? Where did you bring your house?"

Every time I've seen them post since I think of that thread and how much of an utter thundercunt they were.

Wow that is shocking, some women (and men) are absolutely vile on here

ChocolateGanache · 17/05/2025 09:50

TheLimeQuail · 16/05/2025 19:16

Laughing at someone. They probably aren’t going to find it funny.
making inferences that weren’t explicitly stated, then making accusations
throwing around the racism card

People who use the phrase “throwing around the racism card”

ChocolateGanache · 17/05/2025 09:51

ninjahamster · 16/05/2025 22:56

Benefits bashing. Transphobia.

People who mistake protecting the rights of women and girls for transphobia

ilovesooty · 17/05/2025 10:05

ChocolateGanache · 17/05/2025 09:50

People who use the phrase “throwing around the racism card”

And "the mental health card"

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 17/05/2025 10:25

Every poster who helpfully PA as fuck pops on to point out a spelling or grammatical error would be on a lifetime ban if I ran the world.

OPs who put 'discuss' at the end of their posts can get to fuck too.

People who quote any massive long posts.

Any faux naive "but why?" posts.

Ditto the high handed teacher ones "I'm sure you think you were being clever posting that but nobody is impressed and you've just made yourself look very unkind".

And the people who feel the need to pop on threads mainly involving telly or famous people and tell everyone they've never heard of said person or seen whichever program but they know it's crap anyway.

So basically half of MN 😆.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 17/05/2025 11:06

TinyTempest · 16/05/2025 21:39

"I have a friend I usually go to dinner with, we'll call her Beryl".

No 'we' won't because I don't feel as though I had any say in it and if I did, I would've chosen a different name" 🤷‍♂️🤣

‘Think’ annoys me.

I work in transportation - think buses and trains.

My friend has an unusual hobby - think skydiving.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 17/05/2025 11:07

ChocolateGanache · 17/05/2025 09:51

People who mistake protecting the rights of women and girls for transphobia

Yep.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 17/05/2025 11:16

MignonsMorceaux · 16/05/2025 22:33

How would you know this? Even if you are searching people's usernames, they could change them.

I don't search usernames, but I do see the same names popping up again and again on certain types of threads.

NancyGreens · 17/05/2025 11:18

Pervy men and obvious trolls

I know that theoretically they are already banned, but in practice...

DarkForces · 17/05/2025 11:27

Moaning about dogs existing in the same space as humans

Onceuponatimethen · 17/05/2025 11:32

Posters with no idea about SEND children commenting on SEND. The constant everyone can’t have autism, why are people suggesting autism? When a parent has posted that their child only eats beige food and has struggles with eye contact.
