Are there any previous Eurovision songs you still listen to?

I was just having a browse through the thread about how bad our entry is this year (and it is!) and it got me thinking about how even though Eurovision is a cheese fest it has produced some brilliant songs in it's time.
The following alone all feature on my Spotify playlist:

Euphoria by Lorren
Only Teardrops by Emilie De Forest
Ooh AHH Just a Little by Gina G
Love Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves
Eg A Life by Eythor Ingi.

Anyone else got any Eurovision bangers they can recommend?

This is one for the for the Gransnet Crowd really.

Top tune from the inimitable bare footed
Sandy Shaw. Another Semi Retired Love Goddess such as moi.

Enjoy

I don't really listen these days, but used to love Eurovision back in the day. My favourite period was probably 70's and 80's. Probably the most memorable song for me was from 2011, by Sjonnys friends for Iceland. There is such a poignant back story and for me, this is the absolute definition of true friendship.

ursuslemonade · 14/05/2025 23:24

Love last year's Marina Satti-Zari and Baby Lasagna. They are very catchy imo.

Another vote for Waterloo, but my all time favourites are:

  1. Dana ‘All kinds of everything particularly like the Terry Hall and Sinead O’Connor version https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s8oqKyVW978&pp=0gcJCdgAo7VqN5tD
  2. Sandie Shaw ‘Puppet on a String’
  3. Mary Hopkins ‘Those were the days my friend we thought they’d never end …’
Apart from number 1 don’t actively listen to them but remember the words and always sing along when I hear them.

Mon Amour by Slimane is one of my favourite songs ever.

ClarafromHR · 15/05/2025 07:51

I love Calm after the Storm and also Undo. From 2014 I think. I still play them regularly.

Why has no one mentioned "Give that wolf a banana". Best Eurovision song ever and a great one for making you smile at the silliness.

I also love Tattoo by Loreen.

This was the one I was going to mention. I watch it with the kids all the time, they love it. My eldest was 1 when it came out and he asks for ‘The Wolf’ song most days. Very catchy and silly. Perfect for Eurovision

LilDeVille · 15/05/2025 09:05

Satellite by Lena
Saudade by Maro - the most stunning song!
Lots of Rafael Gualazzi

Lots of Eurovision in our house! Excited!

LilDeVille · 15/05/2025 09:09

Also I know all the words to the one by Urban Trad which was from when I was about 12. It was in a made up language which took features from every language to hopefully appeal to everyone of any country. Love!

Sanomi heleeeee Manila Keranu
Aliyah irema niya Lago ture madile

etc! ❤️

samsswampy · 15/05/2025 10:46

my favourites are I’m in love with a fairy tale- Alexander Ryback? he looks just the same now, also Heroes by Max Zelmerlow, Rise like a Phoenix and there was one from Ireland a few years ago years ago a folk one by a girl but I can’t remember the name of it

Was that Nena 99 red balloons a euro vision entry? If it was, this is probably my favourite

Waterloo of.course.

And Congratulations (Cliff), Johnny Logans entries, Bucks Fizz and Sandie Shaw I think! Not that I listen because they were eurovision but because they are on the radio occasionally. In fact, I may even be misremembering and they weren't euro songs at all

Edited

Nena definitely wasn't Eurovision.

Dancing In The Rain (Spain) by the fabulous Ruth Lorenzo - as seen on the X-Factor in the UK.

It's a beautiful song, flawlessly performed; yet nobody ever seems to remember it.

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 15/05/2025 11:45

I still regularly find myself singing It's My Time - the UK entry by Jade Ewen from a number of years ago. Andrew Lloyd Webber was heavily involved in it.

Also Scooch - yes, it was cheesy, but it was gloriously so - and a real banger!

Israel's 1978 entry - I Wanna Be A Polar Bear - is also memorable and (unintentionally) amusing because of what it sounds like in English!

louderthan · 15/05/2025 11:52

Bed On Fire, by Ralf Gyllenhammar. Didn’t even make it to the finals but I still love it! You need to watch the performance rather than listen to it…

And ‘Fairytale’ by Alexander Riebak (Norway I think)

Hadsuchahardday · 15/05/2025 12:40

People thinking of Nena are probably mixing her up with Nicole who sang A Little Peace in 1982ish

NewBrightonEel · 22/05/2025 12:14

Loads! We are big Eurovision fans. We've been to see The Roop (Lithuania) and Go_A (Ukraine) in concert and both were fantastic.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/05/2025 12:22

Waterloo, and Puppet on a String (Sandie Shaw in the 60s!).

GirlOverboard123 · 22/05/2025 12:57

Joost Klein - Europapa
Loreen - Euphoria
Loreen - Tattoo
Olly Alexander - Dizzy
Kaarija - Cha Cha Cha
Mae Muller - I Wrote A Song
Jedward - Lipstick
Jedward - Waterline
Blanka - Solo
Blue - I Can
Poli Genova - If Love Was A Crime
Baby Lasagna - Rim Tim Tagi Dim
Eric Saade - Popular
Teya & Salena - Who The Hell Is Edgar?
Mans Zelmerlow - Heroes

guernseydonkey · 22/05/2025 13:11

100% there are! Even just from the last few years:

Måneskin’s Zitti E Buoni
The Rasmus’ Jezebel
Bambie Thug’s Doomsday Blue
Käärijä’s Cha Cha Cha
Baby Lasagna’s Rim Tim Tagi Dim
Kalush Orchestra’s Stefania
Efendi’s Mata Hari

Those are just the ones that come to mind off the bat, I’m sure there are more I haven’t immediately thought of! As well as the classics, obviously 😅
