Are there any previous Eurovision songs you still listen to?

I was just having a browse through the thread about how bad our entry is this year (and it is!) and it got me thinking about how even though Eurovision is a cheese fest it has produced some brilliant songs in it's time.
The following alone all feature on my Spotify playlist:

Euphoria by Lorren
Only Teardrops by Emilie De Forest
Ooh AHH Just a Little by Gina G
Love Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves
Eg A Life by Eythor Ingi.

Anyone else got any Eurovision bangers they can recommend?

I wonder if people are somehow getting it confused with Ein Bisschen Frieden (a little peace), a German song with a female vocalist which won the Eurovision around the same time (early 1980s)? Or possibly just that most of the very few European songs which made it into the UK charts were Eurovision ones, so people just assume that a German song popular in the UK must have been Eurovision?

Edited

Probably! I'm easily baffled. But late 70s early 80s is my era

Littledidsheknow · 13/05/2025 16:22

Can't believe no one's mentioned Dschinghis Khan (1979) yet! Utterly bonkers!

Satellite by Lena. Great songs which didn't win were Schum by Go_A and Discotheque by the Roop

"Think about things", the Icelandic one that would probably have won in 2020 if Eurovision hadn't been cancelled due to the pandemic:

Yep, this is a big favourite in my household, plus their other music.
And I quite liked the unusual Ukrainian group Go_A from a few years back.
Spaceman was a good song, plus as others have said, Waterloo.

Oceangrey · 13/05/2025 16:55

Oh and Dadi Freyr's cover of Whole Again which they also did for Eurovision is unironically good, much prefer to the original!

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 13/05/2025 16:56

Heroes - Mans Zemerlow - Sweden
Amar Pelos Dois - Salvador Sobral - Portugal
Fairytale - Aleksander Rybak - Norway
My Slowianie - Cleo and Donatan - Poland
Rhythm Inside - Loic Nottet - Belgium
Divine - Sebastian Tellier - France
Dancing Lasha Tumbai - Verka Serduchka - Ukraine

Edited to add artists

  • 2017:
  • Salvador Sobral won the Eurovision Song Contest with "Amar Pelos Dois," a ballad written by his sister, Luísa Sobral.
Planesmistakenforstars · 13/05/2025 17:00

Øve Os På Hinanden by Fyr Og Flamme (Denmark 2021) and Zorra by Nebulossa (Spain last year) are by far my most listened-to Eurovision songs, but it is a very crowded field otherwise.

bloodredfeaturewall · 13/05/2025 17:00

Dragostea Din Tei

CaptainCallisto · 13/05/2025 17:01

Loads already mentioned (I too have a playlist!), but one that hasn't been is Take Me To Your Heaven by Charlotte Nilssen which won in 1999. Absolute cheese fest!

itsallabitofamystery · 13/05/2025 17:02

France were robbed last year with Mon Amour, amazing song.
