Why do men think it's ok to shout when there's rugby or football on tv?

Really annoys me, there's rugby or something on tv and my neighbour has made me jump out of my skin several times already with his stupid shouting. It's so annoying that men think it's ok to shout in their stupid bellowing voices.

@GoodVibesHere not a sportsperson? It's not just men hen 😀

Twinstudy · 15/03/2025 17:21

I've been known to shout when the football is on. Not a man. Sorry!

SherlockHomies · 15/03/2025 17:22

Jesus, I'm not sure if this post is deliberately sexist, just ignorant or if you actually don't know any passionate female sports fans?

I find it very difficult not to should during an intense game!

crackofdoom · 15/03/2025 17:23

I hate it too. I find male shouting very threatening, and it puts me on edge.

FidosMum84 · 15/03/2025 17:23

Best you don’t move in next door to me then 😂

TobiasForgesContactLense · 15/03/2025 17:24

My MIL (who I love dearly) is the loudest person I know when it comes shouting at the tv when the football. My husband finds it easier to contain himself!

Blackcordoroys · 15/03/2025 17:24

Because it is ok!

HappyMuma · 15/03/2025 17:25

The husband does shout at the TV when watching sport but so do I so can't say it really bothers me!!

crumblingschools · 15/03/2025 17:26

If you go to a pub that is showing football/rugby do you think the female supporters clap politely whilst the men shout?

MoanasTummy · 15/03/2025 17:26

Um, I shout at the TV when excited about a match too. It’s not a gendered thing.

Goldenboysmum · 15/03/2025 17:27

No doubt I'll do my fair share of shouting later on when Scotlands playing 😅

SherlockHomies · 15/03/2025 17:27

Actually I've just remembered my mum (who would be 94 if she was still alive) shouting at the wrestling during the 1970s/1980s.

Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks used to send her into a frenzy! 🤣🤣

smallchange · 15/03/2025 17:29

I shout and get thoroughly over invested. Most of the time I'm a very chilled, quiet person.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

GoodVibesHere · 15/03/2025 17:30

The reason I said men is because I've never heard a woman doing it. I've only ever heard the deep sudden horrible shout from blokes when they're watching sport. There is a woman living next door too, but I've never heard her shout. Maybe she's not into sport or maybe the man's voice is deeper so travels further? Women's voices aren't so aggresive sounding. My DH does it too. I've also heard my uncles and my brothers do it. I've never heard my mum do it or any other woman.

Oh for goodness sake! The man bashing has reached peak nonsense on here.
I’ve just watched the (dreadful) Italy vs Ireland game. Not only did I shout but I swore as well!
How awful am I?!

ASongbirdAndAnOldHat · 15/03/2025 17:34

@Skipthisbit I really enjoyed the Ireland game why did you think it was awful? Wish Lamaro hadn't tapped the ball.

Lots of yelling in this house. All women here.

Well I'm sure women shout at the sport too but like you say it could simply be you dont hear it as much as generally speaking men have deeper voices. Not much they can do about that it's their biology!

wherearemypastnames · 15/03/2025 17:34

The problem is the house build - people should be able to express themselves in their own homes

CarpetKnees · 15/03/2025 17:35

There seem to be SO many of these ridiculous mass generalisations on here recently.
a) lots of women shout out at sports on the TV (I was, indeed, when watching athletics recently, and I do when I am passionate about the result of any match on TV)
b) similarly, lots of men don't shout at the TV.

GoodVibesHere · 15/03/2025 17:37

I don't get why people are getting het up. It's only ever been male neighbours that have made me jump out of my skin in my own home with their booming shouting. I don't go to pubs so I've no idea if women do it too. Maybe they do but surely not as loud in their own home? Enough to make a neighbour momentarily think there's been some sort of emergency?

crumblingschools · 15/03/2025 17:37

I’m more vocal watching sport than DH is

GreenWheat · 15/03/2025 17:37

Oh good grief, it's live sport and it's exciting. I take it they are enjoying it at reasonable times like, ooh, I dunno, Saturday afternoon, and not 3am?

shellyleppard · 15/03/2025 17:39

@GoodVibesHere I'm yelling loud enough, I can out shout any man when the rugby is on!! 😂😍😍

Quinlan · 15/03/2025 17:39

I do it! I’m a woman. If it’s tennis or rugby, I get a bit too into it!

Yes I think it must be their deep voices carries through the walls (and I live in a 1930's house with good sound insulation).
