Why do men think it's ok to shout when there's rugby or football on tv?

Really annoys me, there's rugby or something on tv and my neighbour has made me jump out of my skin several times already with his stupid shouting. It's so annoying that men think it's ok to shout in their stupid bellowing voices.

I shout when I'm watching sport. I'm not male.

Funny how many grans liked wrestling in the 70s

AubernFable · 15/03/2025 18:24

I can’t stand it and being obsessively into sport is a deal breaker for me, the second hand embarrassment and noise is too much. Same with drinking, darts and videogames if they involve being loud. I cant stand ‘lad’ culture.

Iknowaboutpopular · 15/03/2025 18:27

I was in London for work during the world cup and I almost welled up hearing the mightiest uproar over the whole city. I opened my hotel windows in the evening and just listened to everyone having a merry time. The excitement of it.

Pretty sure it wasn't all men doing it too.

RaraRachael · 15/03/2025 18:27

My OH gives his own running commentary on football matches. He offers advice to the players etc. I've told him the players can't hear him but to no avail 🤣

I saw William and George shouting when they were watching the football!

I'm pretty sure I've seen Princess Anne cheering on Scotland. Will keep an eye out later.

Well, I wouldn't put it past her! She's not in the least uptight!

I'm definitely not "obsessively into sport", in fact the Six Nations is pretty much the only sport I watch all year.

I might occasionally watch other Scotland Rugby or Football internationals but I'm really not that fussed.

FaithFables · 15/03/2025 18:31

It's just a reaction to the game. I do it when the women's football is on, or when I'm watching the men's world cup. I can't help it.

Okay obsessively into sport or overly enthusiastic about sporting events I guess. We just don’t have sports on in the house at any time of the year.

On my bucket list is to go to Anfield and sing You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Just saw Nessa shouting!

ginasevern · 15/03/2025 18:35

I personally haven't heard women shouting as much as men at the TV but that's just me and my life I guess. What I would say is that men have much deeper and stronger voices than women so their "shouts" are louder and more penetrating.

frozendaisy · 15/03/2025 18:22

Well there you go one less male shouting now you need to work on your other male relatives. Baby steps OP

Well no, because he didn't listen to me and still does it.

@GoodVibesHere do you ever get excited by anything, sing along to anything. If a relative was in a match, race, show would you cheer at any point?

Hadalifeonce · 15/03/2025 18:46

I can't watch rugby anywhere other than at home, I am too loud and animated.

It was a much bigger sport back then. I was born in the 70s and still remember going to watch Big Daddy versus Giant Haystacks live in my home town. It was a family event, plenty of grans and grandads there.

None of my family have been in a match or show so I can't say that I've ever experienced that, no. I might sing along to a song on the radio but that would be more of a quiet humming rather than a sudden angry shout at the top of my voice, 'c'mon you bastard' type thing.

I did go to watch a friend in a race, I clapped when she ran past and said 'Well done Sue', the people I was with cheered her on too.... but that was outdoors in a noisy environment and not at all the same as being relaxed at home and hear some bloke suddenly shouting in an angry voice 'jesus you arsehole what are you doing' at the people on tv who can't even hear him.

Wrestling on world of sport on ITV at four on a Saturday hosted by dickie Davis.
My gran was in her element.

GrandTheftWalrus · 15/03/2025 19:05

I'll be shouting at the tv tomorrow when my team are playing. I also just got a new dartboard light and will be playing later with a beer or 13. And I'm female as well.

Oh my goodness, Dickie Davis, now there's a blast from the past! I watched that too 😁

Sorrelbird · 15/03/2025 19:10

Then you don’t know me or my friends 😆. I also live near to a Championship football stadium and love to hear the roar of the crowd.

RaraRachael · 15/03/2025 19:34

I can't imagine getting so excited by any sport that I'd shout out loud about it but everyone's different
