What are your hit and miss buys off Instagram? Or is it just me that’s gullible 😀

Misses- Tallow and Ash perfume laundry liquid. I was completely taken in by that one and I just hope I haven’t set up
a subscription, The smells sounded divine but in reality there is only a faint one that fades very quickly, and the wash power isn’t as good as regular detergent at all.
Lemonade Dolls the less said the better I’m just not an inclusive person I guess. Products gorgeous though.

Hits cube packing bags that are slightly vacuum have been a game changer.
Oat Pantry over night oats have converted me and I do feel abit healthier 😀.
Valentte diffusers last forever and beautiful scents.

i do really need to reign myself in though. Anyone else buy because of Instagram?

Ive never taken the plunge but I was very tempted by a Crimpit wrap making thing. MIL got me one for Xmas and I was right, used it once, it now lives in a drawer!

I’m hugely tempted by Il Makiage foundation but have resisted up until now…

Doggymummar · 15/03/2025 18:42

I didn't know you could buy things in Instagram, us that because I have an ad blocker?

EachandEveryone · 15/03/2025 19:02

Maybe. The make up for the over 50 mature skin was another let down. I’ll never learn.

I actually came on to say the Il Makiage foundation was the one thing I’ve succumbed to and it’s absolutely amazing! I’ve had a subscription for around three years now, I used to use the YSL one and I’d never switch back now

Livinggently · 15/03/2025 19:42

Miss - blue wave tool for neck pain sold by James (the sexy) osteopath. Was too big for little me - obv built for a man’s frame.

So tempted - Happy Mammoth hormone harmony… suspiciously amazing Trust Pilot reviews. Has anyone tried it?

Oh ffs I have a wine in my hand, I’m going to buy it now aren’t I 😂 pray god you’re not a bot!

WhoStoleYourHighHorse · 15/03/2025 19:49

Bought Ninepine trousers which are amazing and a rip off dog bathrobe from a company who had stolen a reputable manufacturer’s ad - flimsy piece of crap. Forever scarred, won’t dip my toes again!

haufbiskiy · 15/03/2025 19:49

Il makiage - fine if you want to look like you’re wearing stage makeup. the colour match is hit and miss

uk lash - crap. I’m going back to revitalash

smooche lip plumper - the extreme one does something get temporarily. The standard one does nothing

the purple toothpaste - can’t remember the name but it’s absolutely crap and does nothing (edit Hismile - don’t buy it)

purdy and fig cleaner. Smells lovely for ten seconds max. Then it smells of nothing

haufbiskiy · 15/03/2025 19:50

The standard one is like cheap foundation that cost £2. The high cover one looks like stage makeup

MJBear · 15/03/2025 19:54

Purdy and fig cleaning product - nicer smelling than what my husband makes but still mostly water from your own tap.
good if on discount.

crimpet - my kids love them. And they do what they say they will!

Moma candles. Smells divine. Fabulous gifts too.

cressidahun · 15/03/2025 19:57

Things I was tempted but didn’t buy in the end:

Lemonade dolls
Ffern

Things I bought:
Hey Harper earrings - nice but expensive
Lola’s lashes - didn’t work for me at all
Wrinkles Sminkles - didn’t work for me at all

EachandEveryone · 15/03/2025 20:39

Oh Ffern is amazing to be fair. I always get compliments on it,

I have always thought I'm pretty impervious to advertising. But instagram has shown me i am definitely not and in fact I'm a total sucker.

Hits: mould magic pretty much did what was promised. A Tymo hair waving tongs thing which heats up quickly and has a display so you can see the temp, and a locking mechanism that is very sleek.

Hit - kind of: Dcypher foundation uses Ai to match shade to a picture you send them. It's ok but it took 2 unused bottles and sending another pic before I got a good match and I didn't get very good longevity with it. I changed formulation and then it went patchy. And it oxidises quickly. So whilst shade was spot on, I'm abandoning it. I also didn't buy this just because of instagram but because Sali Hughes gave it a good write up.

Misses: underwear! Shapewear and sad U.I. pants for perimenopausal bladders. The shape wear had nowhere near the impact implied in the ads. The pants took ages to arrive to the point I worried that I'd been scammed and when they did arrive they only just fit. Given how long it took to get to me if they hadn't fit it would have been futile trying to get a refund.

Hits, but probably not in the way the businesses advertising the products hoped: saw a hair dye shampoo and bought a different brand off Amazon rather than buy the one I saw. It is pretty good, easy to apply, doesn't take long to develop and lasts a reasonable amount of time. Hairdresser also commented on how shiny my hair looks. Also bought some nmn patches after seeing nmn tablet supplements advertised. Think they are having some impact but early days. Also saw someone use a steaming device and bought a similar one on Amazon. Goodbye forever, ironing!

So yeah, add me to Team Gullible 😀

handsdownthebest · 15/03/2025 20:49

This is a great thread!
not been impressed by any hair products peddled by Nadine Baggot and have pretty much stopped following her now.
Bough the crimpit for the boys but they’ve not been too impressed
Do quite like Sali Hughes for makeup and skin recommendations.

PieCorner · 15/03/2025 21:05

Lemonade Dolls bra. Looks so pretty but provides no support whatsoever.

EachandEveryone · 15/03/2025 21:10

Boody underwear has been another hit with me. Not cheap though.

Oh gawd this thread is me all over. Sooo....
Tallow & Ash - i actually love it 🙊 I bought Date Night which is supposed to smell like Tom Ford Lost Cherry and it's a gorgeous scent. Scent lasts on sheets and towels too. Admittedly I don't think the cleaning power is any better than say Surf liquid, but the scent makes it worth it for me.
Purdy and Figg - hate the scents and don't agree with the claims that it replaces several other products. It leaves streaks on glass. Seems like expensive zoflora to me.
Lemonade Dolls - i should have known better, I'm a 34J. Say no more 😐
Feel Collagen Powder - tastes okay but noticed zero difference after 6 weeks of using it. Not even sure what I was expecting from that one, to be honest.
Neom mini pod. Kept seeing perfectly curated pics and videos of this so gave in and ordered. Actually love it. I got the Feel Good Vibes oil and it's lovely. I love that the pod is portable. Buzzing noise slightly annoying though.

AG1 - No idea what I was thinking when I ordered this. Tastes as awful as it looks.

agree with the mini Neom pod…love it but buzzing noise a bit annoying

@CheepcheepcheepI promise I’m not a bot 😂 I know some people on here have criticised it but I’ve worn expensive foundation for years and this one has worked perfectly for me, the colour match is spot on and I just do a super thin layer!

Don’t you find it oxidises though? I think it performs like a foundation that costs about £8

lovelychops · 15/03/2025 21:46

I've liked Lemonade Dolls, but only with discount codes.
Ordered a slimming body suit thing - it was ok but I definitely didn't drop a dress size!
I like uk Lash for my brows and have just ordered some stuff for my hair.
Rheal was ok but I'm going to cancel subscription. There's probably more...

Gliblet · 15/03/2025 21:49

Hit: Shapermint shapewear cami. The most comfortable shapewear I've ever owned and very effective.

Miss: blind date with a book - the one I ordered from turned out to be a scammer.

It oxidises awfully on me! Looked ok for about 10 mins and then the next time I walked past a mirror it was patchy and orange. Not a good look!

Uk lash might be ok if you’ve never used revitalash.

with uk lash I perhaps don’t see quite as many lashes falling out. Perhaps. I’m not convinced there’s actually any difference.

with revitalash I have to trim my eyelashes!

Portakalkedi · 15/03/2025 21:55

Assume you mean from ads? I wouldn't buy anything from an ad that's shoved in my face, same goes for Pinterest. I'd go out of my way not to buy anything from the 10 billion ads on there now.
