What are your hit and miss buys off Instagram? Or is it just me that’s gullible 😀

Misses- Tallow and Ash perfume laundry liquid. I was completely taken in by that one and I just hope I haven’t set up
a subscription, The smells sounded divine but in reality there is only a faint one that fades very quickly, and the wash power isn’t as good as regular detergent at all.
Lemonade Dolls the less said the better I’m just not an inclusive person I guess. Products gorgeous though.

Hits cube packing bags that are slightly vacuum have been a game changer.
Oat Pantry over night oats have converted me and I do feel abit healthier 😀.
Valentte diffusers last forever and beautiful scents.

i do really need to reign myself in though. Anyone else buy because of Instagram?

This is the thread I need!
I’ve been interested in Il Makiage and Halara jeans for ages. Also tempted by Wonderskin, Merwave, Dock and Bay tea towels, those kits for nails with powder, Estrid razors and Wild deodorant.
My fails have been,
Carpe deodorant and anti sweat powder ££ for something I could’ve bought from home bargains,
Rosalique concealer,
Miniml Lemon vinegar although I like some of the other products the white vinegar just smells like vinegar to me,
47 Skin bought for 14 yo didn’t seem to do anything,
H-Warts bought for 12 yo again didn’t work, if anything the warts are bigger,
Lemonade Dolls sadly just doesn’t support my boobs at all and the size down just squashed them such a shame as I thought the quality and customer service was fantastic,
Blumene face pro, 🙄 I should’ve known better as it virtually always has 40% off,
Hampton Astley towels, another one with regular hefty discounts. The bath sheets are tiny and the trim shrunk so they went all frilly.
Glaize nail wraps, looked good for about two days.

Wins,
This Works primer,
Akt deodorant, works really well for me,
Smol laundry and dishwasher pods,
NutriTeen shakes for sporty DC

Snackpocket · 16/03/2025 11:01

I quite liked the il makiage foundation, but ultimately went back to my bare minerals powder foundation as it was a bit too heavy for me.

I bought some god awful under eye concealer that was meant to be good for older eyes but it was so thick and cakey and despite the colour matching thing was far too light even when they sent me the next shade darker. Can’t remember the name but it started with a F.

Carpe lotion for my sweaty face isn’t too bad but I forget to use it!

Halara, had some jeggings and cycling shorts, both fab.

Things that I’ve stuck with, wild deodorant, estrid razors, sonic tooth cleaning tool.

@Splcam , can you tell me about the steamer thing that means you never iron?

Its this. I should add I only ever ironed shirts and anything else like cotton or linen that would crease after the wash. I don't iron bed linen or anything else like jersey, polyester, jumpers etc. But now I do all my shirts using this. Hang them on a drawer handle in my bedroom and steam away! dont have to then faff about with the ironing board etc.

Handheld Clothes steamer

Jessicapancake · 16/03/2025 13:06

His mole purple toothpaste. Does nothing.
some tubing mascara that looked amazing- came from china via America and not a word of English on the bottle so dare not use.

Jessicapancake · 16/03/2025 13:07

Tatti lashes- bloody brilliant

Jessicapancake · 16/03/2025 13:08

The very long handle spinning cleaner brush. Naff.

DorotheaDiamond · 16/03/2025 13:11

notnorman · 15/03/2025 22:38

Halará wide leg jeans are amazing and I live in mine!!!

i like the flares too!!

Sidebeforeself · 16/03/2025 13:13

I love my Foldie bag. Just packed it for a trip away for a week. It’s so roomy .

I also love Purdy and Figg. Yes the smell doesn’t stay like they say it does but it does smell nicer than a harsh chemical and I think it’s as effective as a cleaner. Love their Loo drops!

SoScarletItWas · 16/03/2025 13:20

Oh I have found my people! I thought I was un-influence-able but no, here I am with a dent in my bank account the same size as:

Decypher foundation, scan your face and get the perfect shade. No. Horrendous. Smells like paint and the worst colour match I’ve ever had. Also far too thick/heavy. Easy to get a refund though.

Some airwrap hair styler thing. Took ages to come (from China, of course, despite the website saying they were UK). Wouldn’t honour the refund. £60 in the bin. The even more stupid thing is, I already had a Shark FlexStyle; what on earth is wrong with me!

Laura Geller foundation. Now, I should have known, because I am the palest of pale. I get compliments galore on my skin when I wear my usual tinted serum skin tint which is about £10. But no, I have to believe there’s something better out there (see hair styler fail, above). Orange. Dark orange. Easy refund, thank god.

I nearly fell for a grey hair influencer (who I otherwise really rate) and her Champo hair growth bollocks. Thankfully I have now learned to check TrustPilot reviews if I am even vaguely tempted.

This thread has also reminded me to ignore the Korean glass skin woman who is touting the cushion foundation at me whenever I open Insta.

Mary46 · 16/03/2025 13:48

Found brastop good. Lemonade dolls pretty but not great support so wouldnt use again. I bought valentte candles didnt find amazing though.

piperatthegates · 16/03/2025 13:50

I am watching this thread as another who is constantly tempted by Instagram ads. I will now not bother with Il Makiage, Laura Geller, Glaize or Purdy and Fig. Has anybody tried Conturve shapewear? Is it any good?

IDontDrinkTea · 16/03/2025 14:03

Oh I’ve found my people.

Hits:

  • Solace jewellery. Always thought I kept getting infections in my piercings, nope, I was just allergic to whatever they make normal earrings out of so they’d end up red and angry. Solace earrings are hypoallergenic and great
  • Bohomoon. Bought a £10 ring, it’s not turned green yet so I suppose that’s a success?!

Sort of in the middle:

  • Biomel. I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference in my gut health - but equally it’s not worse either?!

Miss:

  • Smol cleaning products - don’t actually clean as well as flash does

I’m sure there’s more but I can’t think of any right this second…

IDontDrinkTea · 16/03/2025 14:10

Already thought of another one.
Miss:
Carrie Elizabeth Jewellery. Got caught up in the hype, spent about £150 on a ring. Within a week it had discoloured and looks cheap and naff. Wish I hadn’t bought it

That's interesting - I have several pieces of Carrie Elizabeth jewellery, and found them to be excellent quality. I get the impression that they have good customer service, so maybe contact them about it? (I don't work for them, BTW.. )

MulberryPeony · 16/03/2025 14:24

No one has mentioned Rise & Fall bedding. I’m in the market for new bedding so I was hoping to be convinced either way.

I have also had several pieces from Carrie Elizabeth and always found them great.

WithIcePlease · 16/03/2025 14:30

What is fit on halara like? I'd love some really stretchy jeans but unsure as to size and also the length?

I love Laura Geller - I bought it on Black Friday from Amazon as on a MN email. Very fast, nice for day to day. Surprising coverage

Gottogetoutofthisplace · 16/03/2025 14:42

Noted aromas - dupes of high end perfumes. At first I absolutely loved them, they smelled gorgeous - but after a few months I’ve realised that was probably what triggered a massive eczema flare up for my DS, and some irritation for me. They are quite oily, the scent never lasts more than a couple of hours, and they already seem to have gone ‘off’ and just smell chemically and cheap now. I bought big bottles which I now won’t use - they’re only 30 quid, but even so.
If it wasn’t for the skin irritation link I’d probably still buy them, but only for their £5 mini bottles that can go in your handbag and get used up quickly.

A hit from me. Their fitted sheets do not move on our deep mattress, as described, so much better than any others I’ve bought, even when they have claimed to be extra deep. Bedding feels lovely and washes well.

(Just wish they would branch out a bit on colour.)

LynetteScavo · 16/03/2025 14:45

I’m always suspicious of post on threads like these that only rave about one product Hmm Cornish Seaweed Shampoo for example, which pops up on my Insta feed a lot!
My misses are Nordic Socks - they’re just socks and really short. I suspect they’re made in China.
Purdy and Figg. Smells nice, but overpriced and smeary.
Beautiful Earth jewellery. You get what you pay for, I guess.
Some vile tasting marine collagen syrup that was going to rejuvenate me. It had a money back guarantee but I didn’t bother.

Hits - I’m quite enjoying Hello Yummy Box, although I really don’t need it.
I tried a free sample from Twenty First Century Herbs a few years ago, and their products are surprisingly effective. We now have subscriptions to two products they do.
NMN supplements. Now, this product needs a whole thread for itself. It’s stopped me wanting to drink any alcohol (that’s not what Instagram promises, it seems to be a side effect) and I don’t want to plug the company I purchased from, but they’ll probably pop up on your insta feed soon.
Sentia drinks. They’re not cheap, but are delicious and a great alcohol replacement. I drink far too much of them.

I’ve just realised I buy an awful lot from Instagram. Im currently debating a several expensive tablecloths. The thing is the ads keep coming up, so I don’t forget about them!

BG2015 · 16/03/2025 14:57

Anyone bought the Halara shorts or trousers?
so tempted but not sure about sizes

Moier · 16/03/2025 14:59

Magnesium 3 in one.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 16/03/2025 15:07

Il mikiage is amazing!! Colour match is spot on and gives me a smooth, flawless finish. I've tried so many foundations both cheap and expensive and this is hands down the winner.

I do prep my skin really well first though, and a very small amount goes a long way.

It's buildable so you can go minimal or panto dame depending on what look you want.

Miss- I bought a beach wave curler which sort of rotates. I mean, it's okay but I don't get waves like shown on the advert.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 16/03/2025 15:09

Oh, and wonderskin.

The eyebrow stain just washes off.

The lip stain is okay, but I found if I use their gloss with it the stain rubs off easier.
