What are your hit and miss buys off Instagram? Or is it just me that’s gullible 😀

Misses- Tallow and Ash perfume laundry liquid. I was completely taken in by that one and I just hope I haven’t set up
a subscription, The smells sounded divine but in reality there is only a faint one that fades very quickly, and the wash power isn’t as good as regular detergent at all.
Lemonade Dolls the less said the better I’m just not an inclusive person I guess. Products gorgeous though.

Hits cube packing bags that are slightly vacuum have been a game changer.
Oat Pantry over night oats have converted me and I do feel abit healthier 😀.
Valentte diffusers last forever and beautiful scents.

i do really need to reign myself in though. Anyone else buy because of Instagram?

Love this thread. Those who rate Halara - what is the sizing like please? I'm a curvy 14/16 so not sure if I'd need a L or XL. Very tempted by the jeans and a couple of the dresses.

Hit: Dock & Bay towels. Fabulous. Bought two of the extra large for holiday to Greece a couple of years ago and bought two more last year. They don't get that crusty feel and damp smell that normal beach towels get after a week so are fine for a two week beach holiday, but I just like to have a fresh towel for the second week. I also got the matching hair turban so I felt very glam on the beach (even if I didn't look it!).

Hit : Conturve soft every day bras. Very comfortable and are brilliant to wear when flying as no wires to dig in.

I was tempted by the Foldie, but have resisted and am glad I have after reading some earlier posts.

Seagullsandsausagerolls · 19/04/2025 16:53

Halara and I love it. I've tried different styles of trousers and dungarees. Been a complete lifesaver for me.since my hysterectomy. I've jeans,.track bottoms, cargo pants and.what they call.work.trousers.

Sizing is pretty accurate. Mine are getting a bit big now as the swelling is going down but I will definitely be repurchase the next size down.

Energe · 19/04/2025 17:31

Miss - Dock and bay. I fell for the marketing but the reality is they are the same material as a shiny cheap tea towel and aren’t comfy to lie on at all. The beach bag is good though.

Miss - Purdy and Figg. Totally shit

Hit - Halara skirt. It’s lovely.

Hit - Willpowders collagen ££££ but v good

NancyJoan · 19/04/2025 17:36

Gatineau gradual tanner. So ££ compared to my usual Dove, streaks like mad.
‘Suede’ jacket that feels like cardboard.
Pretty pyjamas that just never arrived.

ediepop · 19/04/2025 18:07

Ooh this is fascinating.

My hit: - Ffern. I have the autumn 24 scent and I am obsessed. BUT I will say the marketing is very clever but a bit tiresome. All this nonsense about ledgers and waiting list - you'll get in within a few days. You need to beware, you are signing up for a subscription, although TBF they do make this clear. I cancelled it almost immediately after I got my perfume, but I am considering signing up again, as I would love a more summery version.

TBD: Gleam teeth whitening strips- good reviews on Trustpilot, so we'll see. They've only just arrived, so I haven't tried them yet.

Meh: . Nordic socks. Perfectly nice winter socks. I don't think I overpaid, but they aren't anything special.

Tempted by the IL makiage and Dcypher foundations, but after reading people's reviews here, I think I'll swerve. I was tempted by Lemonade Dolls, but very put off by their use of a male model for women's underwear.

Newgirls · 19/04/2025 18:15

You get more glamorous ads than me!

carpet lint scraper was very good 😂

teeth whitening powder works well

I get a lot of acne products too - some are very expensive so not bought those

thebear1 · 19/04/2025 18:16

A cat toy that moves on its own, add didn't show the amount of noise it makes, cat is terrified of it.

PooksBear · 19/04/2025 18:35

@Splcam @ssd careful about steaming on doors and drawers! You may steam the plastic backing off the door front

YouBelongWithMe · 19/04/2025 18:40

MarigoldCherry · 16/03/2025 10:15

This is the thread I need!
I’ve been interested in Il Makiage and Halara jeans for ages. Also tempted by Wonderskin, Merwave, Dock and Bay tea towels, those kits for nails with powder, Estrid razors and Wild deodorant.
My fails have been,
Carpe deodorant and anti sweat powder ££ for something I could’ve bought from home bargains,
Rosalique concealer,
Miniml Lemon vinegar although I like some of the other products the white vinegar just smells like vinegar to me,
47 Skin bought for 14 yo didn’t seem to do anything,
H-Warts bought for 12 yo again didn’t work, if anything the warts are bigger,
Lemonade Dolls sadly just doesn’t support my boobs at all and the size down just squashed them such a shame as I thought the quality and customer service was fantastic,
Blumene face pro, 🙄 I should’ve known better as it virtually always has 40% off,
Hampton Astley towels, another one with regular hefty discounts. The bath sheets are tiny and the trim shrunk so they went all frilly.
Glaize nail wraps, looked good for about two days.

Wins,
This Works primer,
Akt deodorant, works really well for me,
Smol laundry and dishwasher pods,
NutriTeen shakes for sporty DC

Estrid razors are EXCELLENT. i have two teen girls and we all use them now.

Going back to the thread to see if anyone mentions Exhale coffee, which is what my ads keep pushing and I am much tempted by.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 19/04/2025 19:36

I love this thread!

EachandEveryone · 19/04/2025 20:21

Thanks😀

my cat is also terrified of the cat toy that moves on its own. She does however love her blingy collar from Cheshire and Wain even though I don’t really agree with them I can’t trust her to stay indoors. Cost a fortune thanks to the adverts.

I bought some bras that you pull a band across the front of it to pull your cleavage up and I don’t think I’ve ever tried them on; I didn’t like the feel of them. A Google search let me know they were rated low on trustpilot, but that was after I pressed pay.

Uklash- first bottle seemed to be really good and then stopped working.

I always fancy foundations, but I’ve no idea how to match my skin. As soon as it starts asking if I’m cool or warm… I can’t tell.

Mould magic - mostly worked well. Don’t get 100% of mould off but got a lot off that I couldn’t remove otherwise.

i do get pulled in by a lot, but tend to think about it and cool off.

Fussy deodorant- I like this but they were sending the refills too quickly so had to alter the subscription.

EachandEveryone · 19/04/2025 23:07

Is Fussy deodorant powerful as I sweat a lot I’m very hormonal

JBJ · 20/04/2025 00:53

I got sucked into the Crimpet but I’m yet to find a wrap that’s actually the right size for it!

I bought TLM colour changing foundation after watching an ad and I absolutely love it. More like a BB cream than a foundation, but that’s what I wanted.

Might have to try the Halara jeans as I’ve looked at them many times, also the TYMO (is that right?) curling thing, but I’m not convinced it’ll work on my very long, very thick hair - any feedback on that would be welcomed! (I’ve tried a babyliss perfect curl thing, many, many tongs and wands and nothing has held).

BG2015 · 20/04/2025 07:28

Estrid razors are great. They sell them and the replacement heads in Boots but much cheaper to buy online.

Got a Suri toothbrush too. Absolutely love it. I bought it in October 2024 and have only had to recharge it twice! Biodegradable heads so that’s a plus.

Tempted to try the Halara shorts and jeans now people have said they are good.

RedHeadedSnippet · 20/04/2025 07:40

@YouBelongWithMeexhale coffee is amazing! I’ve been a subscriber for yonks now

TheCurious0range · 20/04/2025 07:48

I bought a tymo straightening brush and it was useless, tried to get a refund and failed credit card were happy to do a chargeback thing though and said they get loads of similar complaints about tymo

My mum bought me the salt works perfumes, I didn't like them

Also tempted by Halara but not sure on sizing

BridgetRandomfuck · 20/04/2025 08:25

Oh god, I’m a real sucker for Instagram ads! I do often look and see if I can get the product elsewhere, but thinking about it, have bought a surprising amount of stuff.

Hit
Tymo hair crimper - actually pretty good, works on my short fine hair, just not sure if I actually like the result. Perhaps my hair is just meant to be straight.
Dermatica/Skin and Me - first time I tried retinol, ano was pretty pleased with the results, but then realised I could cut out the middle man and buy retinol cheaper online.

Miss
Crimpit - makes the tiniest toastie ever and wastes loads of bread.
Il Makiage - colour ok, but gloopy and thick. No thanks. I bought their colour matched fake tan and that was good though.
Shakti mat - ouch!
Jewellery - bought lovely necklaces from two different places and then realised you could buy the same from AliExpress for a tenth of the price. Think one of them was called Milou. Always check AliExpress for items now if I see them.

Im currently having Shapermint and Halara shoved in my face but have resisted so far. And good to see people’s experiences with Lemonade Dolls as that was another…

NoForwardingAddress · 20/04/2025 08:47

Hit - halara gym leggings. I didn't actually buy these from/because of Instagram, but because I saw a real-life friend wearing them and asked where she'd got them. They are good for the money, nowhere near as good as lululemon though (my favourite gym legging brand), but they're also a quarter of the price of lululemon. For the money, they're great and I'd definitely recommend them if you're looking for gym wear and are on a budget.

Miss - ancient and brave collagen. Perfectly fine in terms of taste and ability to dissolve in liquids, but I used it for 5 months and saw no difference to my skin, hair or joints.

I've been tempted by purdy & fig, so I'm glad to have found this thread to save my money.

MooBaggage · 20/04/2025 08:56

Yes, I love Wype and will never now not be without it! Has made a real difference and is good if you have IBS- type issues and go to the loo a lot!

itstheeasterbunny · 20/04/2025 09:35

Just browsing the thread! My Mum first bought Vallente products years ago from their stall in Greenwich I think- long before Insta! Been using the diffusers for years.
got DD a shapermint bra- actually quite good.
purple toothpaste- there was a programme about them ( and water softening shower heads…) a couple of weeks ago- general
consensus was that they were rubbish!

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 20/04/2025 09:37

Stick on nails for £30, I could have got a set for £10 in. Boots ! I didn’t even like them when I put them on.

MidLifeWoman · 20/04/2025 10:15

Hits:
UpCircle beauty, their night cream and serum/oil are excellent, eye cream is rubbish, though
Knock off shakti mat
Crimpit - student ds really likes it

Miss:
Merwave, I don’t have the time or patience for it. Results were just ok, but I gave my stuff away half used in the end. Just using a cheap curl and wave mousse has the exact same effect.
Indestructible dog toy, lasted all of 5 minutes
Nana’s magic cleaning paste (approximately), same as any old cream cleaner but more expensive

FinnalyCracked · 20/04/2025 10:21

I bought some wax melts that someone raved about on instagram and Pinterest. I was super sceptical as the shop they linked to (Etsy) only had 10 reviews.

Best £10 I ever spent. Each one gives about 8hrs of scent and there were 24 in a pack! So I’ve wrangled 192 hours Pear and Freesia for less than 1/6 of the price of Jo Malone and for three times more scent time.

Also free tracked delivery. Never going back to Jo Malone now

NeedWineNow · 20/04/2025 11:21

Just thought of another one - Glaize nail stickers. Nail colour sheets with a gel like finish that you just stick onto your nails (they were on Dragons Den apparently). Lots of reviews saying they lasted at least two weeks once you'd put them on, and then you just peeled them off with no damage to the nail.

Got them, put them on, they did indeed peel off but after one day rather than lasting the week let alone two weeks. I've had stick on nails from Boots that have lasted longer.

Waste of money.
