What can you not do, but wish you could, that most people seem to enjoy doing?

Something that doesn't really affect your life but you feel it would enhance your life.
Mine is swimming. I can kind of do it, but only for a short length, I don't enjoy it as it's such an effort to go a short way.

What about you?

Anything like following a dance class routine. I tried Tai Chi and I had exactly the same problem. I just can’t follow or remember the steps.

omgitchiness · 14/03/2025 19:43

Oh yes, dancing too. I feel like my body is made of stone and don't get rhythm.

Play the piano. DH and kids play beautifully but I seem to have a block on learning.

Gardening. We’re very lucky to have a (small) garden but I literally only go out there about four times a year. I have zero interest in maintaining and every plant I’ve ever bought ends up dead within a year or so. I’m useless.

Some of my friends / colleagues absolutely love their gardens, enjoy gardening at the weekends and visiting garden centres etc. I’m sure it’s very relaxing if it’s your thing but I just don’t get it!

Lentilweaver · 14/03/2025 19:45

Pubs and bars. I don't enjoy them at all.
I hate loud music and I don't drink really

Joolsin · 14/03/2025 19:45

I would love to be able to do those really loud whistles using two fingers. So useful. I've tried to learn, but just can't get it to work.

thenightsky · 14/03/2025 19:47

Ride a bike. I never learned. My parents never taught me.

Fizbosshoes · 14/03/2025 19:47

Same as you, @omgitchiness swimming. I'm really fearful of water and can probably swim 25m at a push but couldn't contemplate swimming anywhere where I knew I'd be out of my depth (I'm just about ok if I start at the deep end of a pool) When I'm on holiday and I see people jumping into pools, going in the sea, and going on water slides I really wish I liked it. (I'm fine with water slides that don't go into a deep pool)

Running. I just can’t. To be fair I do have lupus and all sorts of issues. Tried couch to 5k many times and get to around week 3 and my body just gives up. I see people sprinting around majestically and wish it was me but I have the travelling speed of a rolling square potato.

Lentilweaver · 14/03/2025 19:48

Oh yes running too!

Me too! I would love to be able to run - I just can't!

And rolling square potato! 😆

Edited

I wish I liked gardening. We have a big garden which had lots of mature shrubs ad plants when we moved. I'd like it to be a bit more open with more flowers but the shrubs and bushes just seem to encroach more and more. I cut them back but I find it quite overwhelming

On the plus side, I can and do run. I'm sure I don't look at all graceful and im not built for sprinting, but I'm half decent at running 10k or half marathons. And love a chatty run with friends

Ddakji · 14/03/2025 19:52

Enjoy exercising. Like, I can do it but I simply don’t get any enjoyment out of it so never carry on for long.

TroysMammy · 14/03/2025 19:53

Have the confidence to dance. I've never danced in public. I've got confidence to do lots of things but have a mental block when it comes to dancing.

I think it stems from being on the cusp of being a teenager, being at a holiday park with lots of family and friends and being forced to join in with the nightly entertainment. I especially thinking how stupid everyone looked doing this sort of line dance called The Slosh.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 14/03/2025 19:53

Swimming for me too. I can swim, but it just EXHAUSTS me.

Comedycook · 14/03/2025 19:53

Dancing on a night out...I have rhythm, I just over think the actual moves...

marthaisintheway · 14/03/2025 19:53

I'd love to be able to draw. Everyone in my family is artistic and earns their living through their talent. Mum was an art teacher. I cannot draw for toffee. The gene has passed me by but has re emerged in 2 of my kids.

pearbottomjeans · 14/03/2025 19:54

Yoga. HATE going upside down and hate how smug it is and all the breathing etc. Love Pilates though!

Running. I’m just not made for it.

lljkk · 14/03/2025 19:54

Plan house rennovations. I dont' like my home but I would rather stick pins in my eyes than think about how to improve my home.

qandatime · 14/03/2025 19:54

Knit or crochet, I’ve tried and tried and I can’t get it.

museumum · 14/03/2025 19:55

Yeh gardening. How do people find it relaxing? It’s frustrating, really hard work, exhausting and thankless. Slugs and snails eat all the nice plants while invasive weeds won’t stop growing.

Waterlilysunset · 14/03/2025 19:55

sing!

man I would love a great singing voice. Also dance haha

RhythmIsADisaster · 14/03/2025 19:56

Drive 😫🤦🏼‍♀️

TheGriffle · 14/03/2025 19:57

Knit and crochet, and also French plaits. My hands and brain never seem to coordinate with each other when I try these sorts of tasks. I can only do the most basic plait in my hair, cannot plait down my back, I have to bring it to the front as I just can’t coordinate my movements.
Ive tries numerous times to learn to knit and crochet and it does not work even though I’d love to sit and knit of an evening, make little blankets etc, it seems like such a lovely relaxing thing and a real accomplishment.
