What can you not do, but wish you could, that most people seem to enjoy doing?

Something that doesn't really affect your life but you feel it would enhance your life.
Mine is swimming. I can kind of do it, but only for a short length, I don't enjoy it as it's such an effort to go a short way.

What about you?

Running, no matter what weight I’ve been, or age, it’s as if I’ve been built without shock absorbers😂

Flutterbylittlebutterfly · 15/03/2025 18:10

Eat seafood! There's so much variety but I can't stand the the flavours!

PrettayGood · 15/03/2025 18:14

Dancing. By which I mean not actual dancing but standing on a dance floor at a party with a load of women shuffling on the spot. I’ll do it to be sociable, but it really makes me cringe.

Yogachick · 15/03/2025 18:25

Do exercise classes. I used to love them. Now I have chronic fatigue & fibro & a class will have me in bed for a few days. I so miss them-& running, used to run for miles. Such joy

RaraRachael · 15/03/2025 18:34

I can't follow dance steps (other than Scottish dancing)
I'm hopeless at any kinds of crafts

Ribenaberry12 · 15/03/2025 18:43

Sing. I am so bad.

RelativePitch · 15/03/2025 18:49

Driving on mountain roads. Doesn't affect my life as I live in one of the flattest parts of England. But it affects where I go on holiday, if I have to drive on a mountain road it's a hard pass. Yet some people love it and relish the views. I want to be one of those people!

YouTube has fab hooded eye eyeshadow tutorials:)

I've tried the ones I found on You tube and they all seem to rely on this undercoat product to make the powder stick and it wasn't enough to stop mine from smearing. "Hooded" is an understatement, mine are more "full-face terrorist balaclava".

You're probably heel-striking. Try toe-striking instead.

Just exist in society without everything feeling beyond me!

Greenblossom · 15/03/2025 19:19

Running outside… I’m absolutely fine on a treadmill but get bored after about 10 minutes. Running outside seems to be totally different and my legs hate it, I run out of breath in no time my nose streams and I’m just so bad at it all. But I do have a good gym routine, so at least I’m fit.
Gardening - I’m slowly learning through trial and error and I’d like to get back to sewing - I used to be good at it.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 15/03/2025 19:40

I wish that I could feel entirely socially comfortable around people for long periods of time. Instead, I worry about talking too much, saying the wrong thing, boring them, or generally being socially unacceptable. Also, I find human company exhausting. My family find this perplexing as they are all social butterflies and love to spend time together!

Fortunately, due to my work, I am required to spend more time with animals than people.

This is me. I can run on a treadmill (on an incline) for an hour, no bother. If I run outside, I struggle to do 20 minutes and I hate every one of them.

Running. I just can’t. To be fair I do have lupus and all sorts of issues. Tried couch to 5k many times and get to around week 3 and my body just gives up. I see people sprinting around majestically and wish it was me but I have the travelling speed of a rolling square potato.

Same here. I’ve tried a few times to get into running and got myself to the point I can run 5k but I hate every second of it Then inevitably pull a muscle and have to stop anyway.

clarabenton · 15/03/2025 20:10

Also dancing. Being in any situation where someone might try to get me up on BBC a dance floor gives me anxiety!!

I am the opposite, happily run for an hour (or more) outside, I'd barely last 10 minutes on a dread-mill

Cooking. People just throw a bit of that in, cook for a rough amount of time and effortlessly end up with something amazing.

I can cook something edible, even nice, but I have to follow a recipe or cooking instructions word for word every single time, with everything timed. I wouldn’t have a clue what to do with unlabelled things from the butcher (other than sausages and bacon).

I find it all so stressful and I can’t even learn from what I’ve done to remember it for next time. Even things I’ve made 10+ times I need to follow a recipe for.

I’d also love to be able to draw.

I am exactly the same! My DH is an amazing cook - a trained chef ( bu tnever went into it as a career) but I think just has natural ability too. It's lucky for me that he's so good with it - but equally means I don't bother much/make much effor. He tries to show me things, but it doesn't matter how much he does I just can't seem to get the hang of it. It's not at all instinctive for me. I wish it was!

YorkieTheRabbit · 15/03/2025 22:23

@selffellatingouroborosofhate thanks, to be honest I’m 58 so don’t think I’ll start trying to run again now. Gardening and yoga for me Smile

My husband is a fantastic cook and thinks about food, new recipes, flavours, every day. He’s completely wasted on me. I have little to no interest in food despite his delicious offerings.

My friends think I’m so lucky, but I’d be happy with toast for dinner 7 nights a week.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 15/03/2025 23:52

i cannot go to listen to live music. I just find it mindnumbingly boring.

Manchesterbythesea · 15/03/2025 23:55

Play the guitar. My brother was a brilliant guitarist and Dh and ds20 both play. I love the way they can just whip out the guitar and have everyone listening and singing along.
Also running. I just can’t run, my knee just gives out.

ASGIRC · 15/03/2025 23:59

There are 3/4 things I wish I could do but cant:

Do the splits and pirouettes. I love dancing, and danced quite a bit when I was younger, from ballet, to jazz, to street. But somehow those skills eluded me. Probably because I didnt commit hard enough, but in any case... I cant and I wish I could!

Play the piano and the guitar! Again... I could have learned. I could STILL learn! I knew how to play the flute (probably still can, but havent picked up one in decades!)

I just have a bit of an issue fully committing to things and going all the way!

Drive a car - tried but couldn’t get the hang of the gears - the anxiety and nerves got in the way - too late now mid 50’s

It's never too late and you could learn to drive an automatic. On the other hand, you are doing your bit for the environment!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 16/03/2025 07:01

Running/enjoy exercising, i do it as i need to lose weight and want to be fitter but i bloody hate it

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 16/03/2025 07:04

Same here @tillyandmilly my anxiety stops me, even when i was on medication.
An auto is a lot easier but i still can’t do it due to the thought of the tests
