What can you not do, but wish you could, that most people seem to enjoy doing?

Something that doesn't really affect your life but you feel it would enhance your life.
Mine is swimming. I can kind of do it, but only for a short length, I don't enjoy it as it's such an effort to go a short way.

What about you?

Being sociable at a moments notice without needing weeks to prepare

Moier · 14/03/2025 19:59

Walk more than 50 yards without pain.. without my crutches or wheelchair .
Luckily l can swim and l love it.. go every week.

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/03/2025 19:59

I would like to enjoy swimming, I can swim a bit but hate being out of my depth. I can dance and knit though.

stargirl1701 · 14/03/2025 20:00

Feel like getting out of bed in the morning. I hate getting up. I have done since I was a child. My Mum used to have to wake me at 9am for Christmas Day!

TheStigarette · 14/03/2025 20:00

Sewing, knitting, crochet, drawing, painting. I can't do anything like that and it just looks so relaxing yet productive and satisfying. I just get cross and frustrated

TooFancyNancy · 14/03/2025 20:01

It’s already been said, but running! Even at my very fittest when I did 8 hours of dance classes a day I couldn’t run for more than a minute or two.
i would love to put headphones on and go for a run!
I have tried numerous times and tried couch25K etc and persevered for months but I just am not a runner. I have hyper mobile/flexible joints and my knees just don’t want me to run.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/03/2025 20:01

I can’t draw for toffee either. If my Gdcs’ lives depended on it, I couldn’t draw e.g. a horse or a dog that would look remotely lifelike.

SwanOfThoseThings · 14/03/2025 20:02

Singing.

Pubs and bars. I don't enjoy them at all.
I hate loud music and I don't drink really

Me too, I don't like not being able to hear anyone and being squashed in a busy pub is horrible

MayaPinion · 14/03/2025 20:05

Crochet. I have tried and tried, watched YouTube videos, got my crocheting maniac daughter to show me, and I just can’t. I’m very left handed so that might have something to do with it.

Go out without wearing a bra. Big norks. Have their own postcode. Cause a centrifugal incident if I turn round too fast.

Yoga. BORING.

Suffer fools gladly. I get that dog snarl face when I have to listen to bollox. It’s involuntary.

Homemaking. I am crap at cooking, cleaning, and gardening. It’s a good job I was born 50ish years ago and not 100years ago or I’d have been flogged or something (also crap at history).

Reading ‘worthy’ books. Give me a Bridgerton style bonkbuster any day. I have to read all sort of hard stuff for my job and the last thing I want to do is think when I get home. Electric blanket, puffy pillows, and a good lurid regency romance is my idea of heaven.

CMOTDibbler · 14/03/2025 20:06

Sit in the sun. I've always burned easily, but spf 50 and a parasol and I was OK. But now I have developed a severe reaction, and have to be totally covered up which takes any joy out of it

SardinesOnGingerbread · 14/03/2025 20:06

Socialising. It sounds great, but I just find it exhausting.

JeanGenieJean · 14/03/2025 20:06

Swimming- I can swim, I learned as a very young child and went regularly. Since my late teens I've really disliked it. It seems such a faff and I really can't be bothered.

Ice skating- I used to be ok at it but I seem to have lost all my ability.

Mulledjuice · 14/03/2025 20:07

Chill out and live in the moment.
Stay in my lane.
Mind my own business

SusanSHelit · 14/03/2025 20:07

Running for sure. A friend of mine came out with the 'you're human you are built to run'. I said to her that if I was born in a time and place where running was essential to my survival I would have been long dead, I'd be tiger food. Either by my asthmatic lungs or utter lack of speed.

I'd like to be able to sing too. As in actually sing well. I really can't carry a tune

Ummbelieaveable · 14/03/2025 19:39

Anything like following a dance class routine. I tried Tai Chi and I had exactly the same problem. I just can’t follow or remember the steps.

I am exactly the same!! I love dancing but can’t even remember the moves to the simplest dance song. I can do the ymca but anything else confuses my mind and body and I end up in a heap.

Youllnevergetabetterbitofbutteronyourknife · 14/03/2025 20:10

I really miss running so much. I have M.E and during a 'good' period I was able to run and absolutely loved it. I can't anymore though, very deflating. Also, socialising is really exhausting.

Echobelly · 14/03/2025 20:10

Riding a bike - I did learn briefly in my late 20s (but only off road - was terrified of being near moving cars), then didn't get much chance to practice, then moved to somewhere I couldn't store a bike for 8 years. I did buy another bike in lockdown, but I seem to have actually forgotten how to do it!

A shame as it's the best exercise for an issue I have .

TheBewleySisters · 14/03/2025 20:11

Sing. Swim. Run.

TheChosenTwo · 14/03/2025 20:11

Mine is also playing an instrument. I can’t get my hands to work together but do different things, my brain doesn’t seem to match up the two.
On the flip side I started swimming about 18 months ago, started off very small, 16 lengths which felt like a huge challenge, I needed to stop after 10 for a breather. Never had lessons as a kid and was never confident in the water. I now swim 1km 3 times a week in deep open water outside, it’s been a total game changer and I’ve found it addictive and a big saver of my mental health.
For anyone considering it please just go and give it a try if you can. Consistency was key for me at first when I was going indoors to the pool. I’m not a great swimmer, I’m sure my technique is questionable but the outdoor swimming community are some of life’s best people!

OreganoFlow · 14/03/2025 20:12

Knitting. My mother is so good at knitting and makes the most amazing clothes - it's such a cool and useful skill!

Though I know that of course I could learn to knit if I put the effort in. I don't have any disabilities or health issues that would stop me knitting so it's only my own laziness that stands in my way Grin

ButterCrackers · 14/03/2025 20:13

To have the energy to go out . I like evenings cosy at home.

Loloj · 14/03/2025 20:15

I’d love to be a natural at cooking - to just be able to chuck stuff together and know it will taste good! I’m not confident at all. I can follow a recipe and they usually turn out fine but never amazing. I need to practice more though - this year I plan to cook from scratch a lot more.

CheeseLizard21Blue · 14/03/2025 20:17

Clap in time - I have to watch what other people are doing and try to join in without making any sound.

Comefromaway · 14/03/2025 20:19

Eat at a fancy restaurant or function. I’ve got a black tie ball event to go to next week & I’m stressing about the food because the chicken is in a sauce & the mash has truffle in it.
