What can you not do, but wish you could, that most people seem to enjoy doing?

Something that doesn't really affect your life but you feel it would enhance your life.
Mine is swimming. I can kind of do it, but only for a short length, I don't enjoy it as it's such an effort to go a short way.

What about you?

Loads of things. I have dyspraxia which makes so many things difficult 😞

Anrom19 · 14/03/2025 20:23

Go to the Cinema, last film I watched was the Lion King with my (obviously) young children . I just know I’d drop off for a nap or need a wee ! I’d love to see the latest Bridget Jones . But nah , not paying £15 to fall asleep half way through.

Bitteralmond · 14/03/2025 20:23

Swim for any distance, or do any stroke that involves putting my face in the water.

Follow dance instructions.

Sing with other people. I have recently taught myself to sing reasonably solo, but I cannot sing along with others.

PeepDeBeaul · 14/03/2025 20:24

Singing, and remembering lyrics. I cannot remember song lyrics...even songs I've heard hundreds of times. I also cannot hold a tune or play any instruments...but I love music.

AltitudeCheck · 14/03/2025 20:24

I've found my people!! Yes to... singing, dancing, clapping in time... also striking up a natural conversation someone I don't know, wearing makeup, styling my hair.

I can run but I've seen photos of me running and I don't look like I enjoy it at all!

Enjoy exercising. Like, I can do it but I simply don’t get any enjoyment out of it so never carry on for long.

Yes. I came on to say cartwheels but I think this would be more life changing. I like sitting down, eating chocolate and drinking wine much… not so healthy though unfortunately.

PollyCreo · 14/03/2025 20:30

I love dancing and swimming - I can swim for hours and never tire.

Running however - I look like a lumbering, aged rhinoceros 😅

AubernFable · 14/03/2025 20:35

Any kind of mental maths, can’t and won’t do it.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 14/03/2025 20:36

Play snooker/pool. I've never managed to work out how to hold the cue and actually move it at the same time. My brain just can't cope with it.

I also can't swim. I look like I'm drowning when I try.

CraneBeak · 14/03/2025 20:55

I wish I could sing. I love singing but am bad at it so everyone always tells me to stop.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 14/03/2025 20:58

Swim

Ineedanewsofa · 14/03/2025 21:00

Eat cheese

lily219 · 14/03/2025 21:00

Being with other people a lot. I can enjoy company for a while but I need time alone and often prefer doing things by myself. I think it's a good thing to be more sociable than I am, but I find it too limiting and tiring being with people.

GreenMarigold · 14/03/2025 21:08

Cooking. People just throw a bit of that in, cook for a rough amount of time and effortlessly end up with something amazing.

I can cook something edible, even nice, but I have to follow a recipe or cooking instructions word for word every single time, with everything timed. I wouldn’t have a clue what to do with unlabelled things from the butcher (other than sausages and bacon).

I find it all so stressful and I can’t even learn from what I’ve done to remember it for next time. Even things I’ve made 10+ times I need to follow a recipe for.

I’d also love to be able to draw.

TeenLifeMum · 14/03/2025 21:15

Speak a foreign language fluently. I got an A in German gcse but it’s all gone. I just cannot retain it.

Playing a musical instrument.

Oh yes, both of these.

LasVegass · 14/03/2025 21:22

I can’t do that thing where you roll up the sides of your tongue. It wouldn’t be of any use, I know, but I’d like to know what it feels like.

1983Louise · 14/03/2025 21:28

To have the confidence to drive on the motorway, I'm fine driving it's the speeding traffic that makes me nervous.

luckbug · 14/03/2025 21:29

I like these threads and how many responses they get.
Mine is driving.

NoisyLemonDog · 14/03/2025 21:31

Lentilweaver · 14/03/2025 19:45

Pubs and bars. I don't enjoy them at all.
I hate loud music and I don't drink really

Me too. I'm sociable but really don't enjoy pubs and bars. Very happy to see I'm not the only one.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 14/03/2025 21:31

Driving without vomit-inducing anxiety. I was a late learner but I have realised I am simply not meant to be a driver. I have this horrible feeling of "playing with the big boys" and I feel I have not right to be behind the wheel.

Sigh. And swim. Can't fecking swim.

NameChangedOfc · 14/03/2025 21:33

Cooking 😭

Fifthtimelucky · 14/03/2025 21:36

Lots of things for me, all of which I can do now, but do badly.

  1. be more creative: to be able to draw/paint, knit and sew well.

  2. play tennis. I was quite sporty at school (good at hockey and athletics in particular) but was completely useless at tennis.

  3. do an effortless front crawl (my backstroke and breaststroke are pretty good though).

  4. be fluent in another language (or preferably more than one). I have French and German O level but have forgotten most of my German and my French is pretty ropey, especially speaking.

  5. be able to play the piano well. I don’t want to be a concert pianist but I’d love to be able to improvise and sight-read well.

I’m now retired, so I have plenty of time to try and improve!

the80sweregreat · 14/03/2025 21:37

Draw, paint, sing in tune , knit, better at driving. Am pretty useless at so many things tbh

hexsnidgett · 14/03/2025 21:41

Relax on holiday, I always come home aching and worn out!
I need to see the sights.
