Would the police do anything?

I wrote to someone telling them if they attempted to contact me or my family I'd contact the police. I've blocked them and their partner from all sm etc.

I then contacted their partner with a separate message.

They've written to me together.

Can I call the police?

Call the police and say what? You contacted them and they replied?

GuiltyGiraffe · 03/03/2025 12:13

Just ignore the letter.

DontKnowWhatToSay25 · 03/03/2025 12:13

But I told them if they contacted me again i'd do that they were warned.

\you can ask them not to contact you yes. but you can't then go ahead and contact them!

GuiltyGiraffe · 03/03/2025 12:14

The police will not be interested in them writing you one letter. Ignore it.

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 03/03/2025 12:15

send the same message again, one more time, then if they contact you again you can call the police.

But you contacted there partner after you asked for no contact. I doubt the police can help with this.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 03/03/2025 12:15

I think unless they are threatening you with something illegal, the police won't help.

SilenceInside · 03/03/2025 12:15

What crime are you thinking they have committed? Are you thinking that their joint reply constitutes harassment? I think you'd have difficulty persuading anyone of that given what you've described in your OP.

DontKnowWhatToSay25 · 03/03/2025 12:20

It seems unfair given that I said if they made any attempt to contact me I'd call the police.

But that's just something you made up and said? Of course you can contact the police (perhaps email your local PCSO!), the police however are unlikely to do anything in a first instance.

But you contacted them?

Also, unless there’s a huge backstory and there’s harassment, an injunction etc to legally prevent contact, them contacting you is not a police matter.

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 03/03/2025 12:22

Ring the police then. Update us. Be interesting to see what they do.

DontKnowWhatToSay25 · 03/03/2025 12:22

No nothing legal before.

DontKnowWhatToSay25 · 03/03/2025 12:22

No nothing legal before.

Then the police are going to be very confused at you ringing to say someone has replied to a message you sent OP. This isn’t a police matter.

MissyB1 · 03/03/2025 12:24

You would have to take out an injunction against them, if they then broke that injunction that's when the police could get involved. At the moment I don't see what law they have broken?

CaptainFuture · 03/03/2025 12:24

What have they done to make you feel threatened and at risk of harm?

ObliviousCoalmine · 03/03/2025 12:26

This needs a lot more context.

What did you tell them to not contact you?
What did you say to the partner?
What did they say in the letter?
What do you want the police to do?
What is the ideal outcome of this scenario?

Supersimkin7 · 03/03/2025 12:27

Unfair isn’t the same as criminal.

I know a family of chaotics who do this all the time - they called the cops when a Xmas card arrived once.

The police only act when one of them tries to run another one over, or similar, because running people down is against the law.

DontKnowWhatToSay25 · 03/03/2025 12:28

I don't want to say too much because it will be too outing

She had an affair with my husband. I wrote to her telling her how she is to blame for it all and that my husband is now where he is loved.

I contacted her husband to tell him to stay away from mutual friends.

OP posts:
H0PPLE · 03/03/2025 12:29

I don't think this is a police matter OP. Your husband is a cheat, why are you staying with him?

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 03/03/2025 12:29

mrsm43s · 03/03/2025 12:29

They haven't comitted any crime by replying to a communication you sent them. So the police won't be interested.

Like I could say "if you reply to this thread I'm going to contact the police". That doesn't make it illegal for you to reply to this thread, nor would the police be interested if I was foolish enough to contact them, as no crime has been committed.
