Zelensky - feeling quite sad

Bakewelltart1 · 01/03/2025 20:18

I know that there are several threads about him, but I’ve watched the interview again today.
I don’t know what’s made me feel more sad - how exhausted and disappointed he looked, the fact that English isn’t his first language and it must have been hard to speak, let alone speak whilst being verbally attacked, or the suit question.
When the war is over, I want to buy that man the best suit money can buy!
How can anyone kick someone when they are so down anyway.

I didn't say that whatsoever. I am saying that President Trump did not appear to have medical records to justify not serving, according to the Independent.

Why would I give you all the information from the newspaper article if I was pretending? I'm just providing facts in response.

Do you have a link to the claim made that Trump is the only president who has never served his country?

Here, since I don't want you to strain yourself:

ThisAzureBear · Today 21:47

Neither showed any respect for him - regardless of how the deal is going or not going. Considering Trump is the only President never to have served in the Military as he had dodgy feet(!) proof positive that again, his relationship with reality is a little off!

It is interesting, isn't it?

@Patterncarmen I actually can't take credit for this analysis though..it was my 90 year old mother who has been glued to the news and made this point to me just now when we had our goodnight chat!!

Someone else said it, on the last page, and the MAGAt responded to correct them. You then jumped in and apparently missed the start of the convo.

It's one of the few instances where this poster has a point.

Try to keep up Boo-Boo Bear.

Didn't vote for Trump in '16. Didn't vote for Trump in '24. Voted third party both times. I would have voted for myself if I could have.

Calling someone a MAGAt makes you look even more ridiculous. Is that possible? It's gotten to the point of TERF, racist, etc. Overused and used by idjits when someone refuses to march in lockstep with them.

Reading is fun and mental! Try it!

Again, I never said you said it. Having trouble with reading comprehension? Maybe a nap would help.

Look it up. I replied to the message. Stop being a RB. Oh wait, you enjoy it.

Edited

If RB is random boomer, I was born in 1967 and Gen-X. If it is something else, I'm not sure to what you are referring.

It is midnight here, and I'm a night owl. No need for a nap. My reading comprehension is fine. In fact, I'm not seeing any links from you really, just told you'll look into it, or I should look things up myself.

Trump not the only president not to have served, that's right. I think though Trump did not exactly distinguish himself with his exemptions for military service.

Just watching an interview with the former minister for econ development in Ukraine. Says it's a bit of an illusion the europe can stand up to Trump and that the US holds all the cards. I was hoping for dialogue about the mineral deal, but those questions weren't asked unless I missed it.

I don't suppose you can point me in direction of the interview? It sounds interesting.

I'm in Canada. It was just on the CBC.

Oh, Ok. The dodgy feet/bone spurs claim is however true. And, I provided some text from a newspaper article for you.

So, what should America do with people who are stateless if we rescind birth citizenship.

To be fair, those wearing MAGA hats like it's some kind of uniform, or cult identifier do look ridiculous, and when they speak, they also sound ridiculous.

It's a small stretch to imagine some of the ridiculous posts on here coming from someone in the hat. I think the ridiculous thing is expecting to post ridiculous things and not be called ridiculous.

If the cap fits wear with pride. If not, ask yourself why people think it does.

Some countries (mostly in the Americas) have unconditional birthright citizenship.

Others have conditional birthright citizenship, like the UK.

Others don't have the concept at all.

Sure. I suspect it was because of the US's immigrant heritage that it offered birthright citizenship. The latest moves against this by Trump are part of the MAGA platform against immigration. It is a bit ironic as Elon Musk is South African in origin.

I know about UK conditions having been through the visa and then naturalisation process in the UK, that's for sure. I'm actually curious now to see what happened to make the citizenship laws change over time since 1983 in the UK There was a lad at my citizenship ceremony here who had a pronounced British accent from Peterborough, and a German mother...they announce your name and country/place of origin. They received citizenship at the same time, so that was an interesting story there.

What I am concerned about is if the birthright citizenship is suddenly revoked in the States. There are people in the States who were born to undocumented folks in the USA. If their citizenship is taken away retroactively, and their parents' country of origin won't take them in, what happens to them?

Even if they're able to curtail birthright citizenship, going forward, I highly doubt it would be with retroactive effect. I know Trump is signaling he's willing to ignore the courts as he pleases, but this seems like an area where he'd have difficulty doing so.

I hope so. Then again, if you do have undocumented folks in the States, and they do have a child, and that child is not given citizenship under the new scheme, and the parent's home country won't take the children, then we are back to where we started. I can see some really Kafkaesque stuff happening.

Elon Musk is calling for judges blocking Trump's orders to be impeached, but that may be just bluster. According to the Independent, he said
“The only way to restore rule of the people in America is to impeach judges. No one is above the law, including judges,” noted Musk, forgetting to add the president. He added: “That is what it took to fix El Salvador. Same applies to America.”
In 2021, El Salvador’s assembly, under the control of authoritarian President Nayib Bukele, voted to remove the top five of its Supreme Court judges and the attorney general, sparking criticism by several countries, including the United States.

The deity help us all if the USA should emulate El Salvador.

I think a good rule of thumb is not to bear any heed to the political opinions of someone who is too embarrassed to share who they voted for (especially on an anonymous basis).

Who cares what someone voted for ( or what their bmbative language is for that matter)
Why can't we debate on the basis of facts and let different opinions stand. How does name calling from both sides make anything better?
You can debate whether on healthcare system is better than the other based on objective facts like coverage, cost on the individual, etc. but still agree that for the individual person another system might be better.
I also don't think calling someone MAGA is an insult after all those peple call themselves that.

That's fine if they want to call themselves that. I think they do it thinking they are being either special, unique or whatever. I think it's stupid.

I guess it's time for me to be a GDI like I was in college. LOL!

Our precinct is all computer, so not sure how they do write-ins. My DH and I just said we'd vote for me just so I could say I got two votes. But, we weren't going to ask how or if it could be done, and frankly, getting out is the most fun part of voting. And listening to the people who read it all out loud.

It was a horrible display. "Why aren't you wearing a suit?". They have no idea what war means.
To hector and bully him like that was shameful.
Zekensky was right, before they shut him down, that they have a big ocean to protect them. They have no idea what it's like to have a large, powerful aggressor on your border.

.

Did they say that? 😢 I watched it but I missed that bit. Maybe because his country has been invaded? Those two are so vile and I thought at the time that it was a carefully planned assassination. I'm thankful to live in a country that supports him and his people.

That's the bit that confuses me.

Russia illegally invaded Ukraine.

But trumps solution seems to be for Ukraine to give him their wealth through minerals and Russia the land they want and that will solve it.

Thereby emboldening Russia to go again when it chooses. There was only 8 years between Crimea and this.

Don't be confused.

This is exactly what he did in Afghanistan. He wanted the fighting to stop and the easiest way to do that was hand control to the Taliban.

So technically there is peace, but in reality life, particularly for women and girls, has become much worse and Trump is proud of is achievements.

Pomvit · 03/03/2025 06:07
