Zelensky - feeling quite sad

Bakewelltart1 · 01/03/2025 20:18

I know that there are several threads about him, but I’ve watched the interview again today.
I don’t know what’s made me feel more sad - how exhausted and disappointed he looked, the fact that English isn’t his first language and it must have been hard to speak, let alone speak whilst being verbally attacked, or the suit question.
When the war is over, I want to buy that man the best suit money can buy!
How can anyone kick someone when they are so down anyway.

Zelensky's choice of clothing is a calculated decision. He could wear a beautiful suit if he wanted to but if he suddenly switched to formal suits, it might create a disconnect between him and the people enduring war.

True. He had the Ukrainian trident on his clothes. An Armani suit would not have been the same. He looked perfectly smart.

Taking the piss out of clothes, demanding thanks, and interrupting, hectoring and repeatedly touching with no permission is what 12 yo bullies do, not statesmen.

TheDublin3 · 01/03/2025 20:41

I always presumed the clothing was solidarity with those fighting and a reminder to the world that he is at war. Stark contrast to Putin who couldn’t give a fuck about his own people

MarvellousMarch · 01/03/2025 20:42

@Patterncarmen well it reflected extremely badly on him, not only a crass insensitive comment but also made by a man who couldn't look good in a suit!!

He looked awful.

I'm actually not sure how I feel about that loan backed by Russian assets because I do want the war to finish. I don't think zelensky can win it in the current format which is basically one arm behind his back.
I do want a cease fire and peace.

AcquadiP · 01/03/2025 20:42

I watched the interview today, it was disgusting. I noticed the bust of Sir Winston Churchill in camera shot. Ironic given that Churchill almost certainly would have told Zelensky to "never surrender!"

Bakewelltart1 · 01/03/2025 20:42

Absolutely, and no one else has ever questioned his choice of clothing. I know it's silly to say that I want to buy him a suit. My heart has gone out to him after this.

He’s turning in his grave I’m sure.

MarvellousMarch · 01/03/2025 20:43

@MrsTerryPratchett trump is touchy freely didn't you see Marcon and starmer??
They had their hands on each other's knees

Trump is the least Churchillian man to ever walk the earth.

Reciprocated touching is fine. Trump is doing it to humiliate.

MarvellousMarch · 01/03/2025 20:45

@AcquadiP I disagree because Churchill would understand each situation must be taken on its own merit with its own set of risks ie nukes.
Then you put history and past mistakes into the mix.
At the moment the board is stacked against zelensky but with a reset it could be tilted much more in his favour.

Bakewelltart1 · 01/03/2025 20:45

@MrsTerryPratchettagreed, he did look smart. It's actually upset me more than I thought it would today.
Just so vile.

It was a horrible display. "Why aren't you wearing a suit?". They have no idea what war means.
To hector and bully him like that was shameful.
Zekensky was right, before they shut him down, that they have a big ocean to protect them. They have no idea what it's like to have a large, powerful aggressor on your border.

.

100%. America will never know what that feels like.

I think I'm still in a bit in shock. I knew the deal would be tough and unlikely to come off but did not expect them to stoop as low as they did.

MarvellousMarch · 01/03/2025 20:47

Of course zelensky looked smart, looking smart doesn't equal being in a suit!
Zelensky isn't my type at all but he looked far better than many in their wearing crusty suits looking sweaty.
As an aside I read today trump said i
Of rubio.. That young man sweats more than anyone I've ever met, or something like that 🤣

Like Churchill wearing a siren suit when he visited Roosevelt in WW2. Its symbolic.

I don’t think that meeting was the time and place for Zelensky to start lecturing Trump and Vance. He called Vance, JD, which was very disrespectful. Trump ribbed him about his attire when he greeted him but it was a journalist who brought it up in the meeting. Zelinsky was there to sign the mineral agreement and he should have stuck to that and discussed other concerns privately. It was Trump and Vance who were ambushed

No, silly

The journalist was Brian Glenn, the boyfriend of Trump apologist Marjorie Taylor Green. The suit comment on Glenn’s part was wholly inappropriate.

Churchill also didn't wear a suit to the White House during WWII. He wore an air raid suit.

ohfourfoxache · 01/03/2025 20:50

Zelensky is the only one to stand up to that bullying, slimy, orange cunt. Genuinely couldn’t love him more

Never underestimate the little man

Bakewelltart1 · 01/03/2025 20:50

@Molly70 Trump and JD were ambushed? I think I missed that part.

With wanting to step back from alliances and global support, trade tariffs and isolationist politics, I feel like the US is making itself less relevant on the global stage. This will embolden Europe to collaborate more in terms of defence and security.

Meanwhile Americans can watch prices go up and up and up as they put tariffs on everyone, which will harm Americans in the long run… their grocery prices are already outrageous (I paid $6 for a normal loaf of bread when I was last there). So long America being the leader of the free world.

Wow! You saw a different clip to me and to most people.

Wildflowers99 · 01/03/2025 20:53

Anyone seen the vid of him with Starmer this evening? He had tears in his eyes when Starmer was talking about the British public and how much we support him. It’s all been so uncomfortable to watch.

Yes, Marjorie Taylor Green is a complete conspiracy theorist. Was just looking her up to remind me of Glenn's name and saw her marriage had "irretrievably broken down" in 2022. Maybe her ex couldn't put up with her anymore.
