Zelensky - feeling quite sad

Bakewelltart1 · 01/03/2025 20:18

I know that there are several threads about him, but I’ve watched the interview again today.
I don’t know what’s made me feel more sad - how exhausted and disappointed he looked, the fact that English isn’t his first language and it must have been hard to speak, let alone speak whilst being verbally attacked, or the suit question.
When the war is over, I want to buy that man the best suit money can buy!
How can anyone kick someone when they are so down anyway.

@ArtTheClown I don’t take that as being an unkind comment. I would agree - the bullying has hit a nerve, but him and his country have also suffered. He wasn’t elected as a war time president.

This entirely. It actually reminded me so much of being bullied at high school that I had to turn over before I had a panic attack. That makes me sound like a massive snowflake but it's true. It was a horrible, horrible uncomfortable watch.

I felt the same way.

Yep, and ‘these other countries’ have been supporting Ukraine for three long years. And where are we now? Millions of pounds out of pocket, and absolutely no progress made. There comes a time when surely a rational person would say that throwing money and weapons at the problem isn’t working. Europe give weapons and money to Ukraine. China and Iran provide weapons and money to a Russia. And so on and on it goes. There needs to be another option, otherwise this war could potentially go on for years.

Well Russia hasn't managed to take over Ukraine and start invading the rest of Europe, so I'd take that as an achievement. I guess we should all roll over and just start talking russian now apparently.

He was a comedian before he was a politician. He’s used to hecklers. He did have an interpreter for the later Fox News interview but only needed a couple of words to be explained. He has learned English in three years while leading a nation at war and I thought he came across well when he was allowed to get a word in over Vance’s shouting.

Blimey. To learn another language whilst leading your country to war. Wow. I struggle to read with the kids when I’m tired, let alone run a country, at war and negotiated in a third language. What he must be going through.

Thankfully the backlash is building: hundreds of anti-Trump and Vance protesters lined the streets of a Vermont town where Vance had gone skiing with his family this weekend. Some of the protest signs were deservedly brutal.

Hundreds?? Wow….

I don’t think that meeting was the time and place for Zelensky to start lecturing Trump and Vance. He called Vance, JD, which was very disrespectful. Trump ribbed him about his attire when he greeted him but it was a journalist who brought it up in the meeting. Zelinsky was there to sign the mineral agreement and he should have stuck to that and discussed other concerns privately. It was Trump and Vance who were ambushed

Seriously? I’m embarrassed for you 🤦‍♀️

itsgettingweird · 01/03/2025 21:47

It would be great if Charles wore a Ukrainian outfit. Fuck Trump.

I always love your simple but powerful responses MrsT

A former US ambassador to the EU made the point today that what Trump really wants it to break Europe apart. The EU is the world’s biggest trading bloc. Trump wants that for the US.

Let’s be strong, for Europe, for Ukraine, for Zelensky.

Such an interesting point. I had never thought of that but it is a horrifying thought! Trump worries me as he is such a loose cannon with absolutely no filter. Horrible man.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/03/2025 21:47

@Molly70 Trump made the first dig about Zekensky's (military) attire. He wanted to show who was in charge. The subsequent "questions" were a set-up. This was designed to try and humiliate Zelensky as well as provoke indignation in Trump's supporters to cement support for Trump as a tough guy. You witnessed propaganda.

"During his tête-à-tête with Trump in the Oval Office, Brian Glenn, White House correspondent for the pro-Trump network Real America’s Voice, asked Zelenskyy why he was not wearing a suit while visiting the “highest level” office in the country."

@LovelyJubly12 💐. Good to know it wasn't just me.

@Molly70 Did you know who was who in the video?

Trying to figure out how you made such a judgement of error.

Livelovebehappy · 01/03/2025 21:46

Hundreds?? Wow….

It's a tiny town by all accounts, so yes, hundreds. But all good protests have to start somewhere and hundreds there could spread to thousands in cities. Many Americans are genuinely revolted by Trump and Vance's behaviour.

Justhere65 · 01/03/2025 21:50

Molly70 · 01/03/2025 21:21

I live in the US so it is a bit early

Never mind about the time. Off you pop!

Zelensky is the only one to stand up to that bullying, slimy, orange cunt. Genuinely couldn’t love him more

Never underestimate the little man

Agreed!

RaspberryVelvet · 01/03/2025 21:51

Livelovebehappy · 01/03/2025 21:46

Hundreds?? Wow….

There will be tens of thousands if Trump visits the UK. Hopefully all holding Ukrainian flags.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/03/2025 21:51

@Bakewelltart1 Zelensky doesn't need a suit. His country is at war having been invaded by Russia.

He'll probably hate that one more than the ones telling him to fuck off and ski in Russia. The man is notoriously vain and apparently this is a proper diss if you're a serious skier.

Pairymoppins · 01/03/2025 21:52

I am just starting to wonder if Trump might row it back a bit now… with a massive backlash from basically the whole world, plus starting to affect trade (eg the Norwegian fuel thing). Will he realise he’s gone too far and fake playing nice for a bit?

Russia hasn’t, but neither has Ukraine with the billions in aid, and weapons, got anywhere near winning the war. Btw, I’m absolutely behind Ukraine in this - Russia were the aggressors. But giving a loan to them is like pissing money up against a wall. When the money has gone, the war will still be ongoing. There needs to be some sort of back up plan, or plan B, here.

The funny thing about this is that Trump by his recent actions may have brought Europe together, exactly the opposite of what he wanted. The summit tomorrow with European leaders and Zelenskyy will be interesting.

Sadly, I don’t think he has the nous. Maybe his advisers do, but I’m not too confident in that either.
