I am a narcissist

I am. But I'm not a horrible person.

I lack empathy but I've learned that it isn't nice to manipulate people.

Yet I still do, only in such a way that no one can ever really accuse me of it. Because I twist my words to indicate that I have everyone's best interests at heart.

Everything I do is calculated to ensure I get my own way while maintaining a facade of good intentions

this is a strange post. On the off chance you’re legit I’m just wondering what hurts you/scares you? Like what makes you actually feel sadness? And what were you like as a mother of a young child/baby? Do you feel love and did you find him cute and want to protect him as a baby? Or is it driven by the fact he is ‘your’ child?

We all have personality styles; some of us, unfortunately, have personality disorders that limit our capacity to have a broadly (outside of objectively shitty situations) peaceful and fulfilling experience of life. We can sympathise with people who are profoundly damaged whilst still refusing to justify the unacceptable behaviour that results from disordered defence mechanisms.

No point posters trying to bring you down a peg or two, the whole point is you’re superglued to the highest rung so you're not going anywhere, no matter what anyone says to you. It’s all water off a duck’s back.

I suppose in the big picture it doesn’t really matter if you are except for those who have directly been affected by it (your son, perhaps your husband). Other people can choose to stay away from you if they want to.

I have a friend who definitely has strong narc traits. If it wasn’t for the fact we don’t live near each (so only see each other occasionally) I would most likely have cut ties by now but I enjoy seeing her (in small doses).

You're right, a narcissist wouldn't do that type of job, they usually have good, powerful, high paying jobs, ie surgeon or high up in finance. Again, this just proves that OP is like the rest of us, unfortunately for her and her superiority complex!
