Continuation of the Angela from housing thread. For those who want to moan about the government and share thoughts and articles.

Maybe. Idk. It would give you 0.2% gdp towards defence but it would take a wrecking ball to the only growth we have at the moment. Maybe the opportunity to step away from net zero obligation might allow for more growth elsewhere though. What a mess.

Upstartled · 26/02/2025 08:35

Bloody hell, Chagos, 🤦🏼‍♀️. Yes, that can do one.

I wouldn't be surprised if this government use a big chunk of this increased defence spending to pay for the chagos deal.

@TheNuthatch it's madness, they will

They don't have to do it. Starmer is scrabbling, if he was thinking straight he'd see it's an easy option

poshme · 26/02/2025 09:15

@TheNuthatch they are refusing to say if charisma money will come from this. 🙄

poshme · 26/02/2025 09:16

Argh. Autocorrect. CHAGOS

poshme · 26/02/2025 09:18

On the breakfast clubs- a school has pulled out already as the funding doesn't cover the cost, and they'd have to cancel their before school childcare.

Ah there we go. I thought this would happen. Starmer is too stubborn to reverse it.

I was wary yesterday of getting too excited over the increase for defence. Until we know exactly what they will spend it on, it's too early to tell.

I agree on Chagos, it's hideous but I can't see Starmer reversing it. Unless Trump forces him to?

Looks like Ukraine are about to sign a deal on minerals, without any American security guarantees 😬

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 26/02/2025 09:38

Starmer is so bloody minded he won't admit Chagos is an easy win

No security, I knew it and thought so listening to press conference

Starmer knows by now there's no security and Putin probably hasn't said ok to peace keeping troops - in the Times

Going to be less able to bombastic than Macron, who was charming but didn't know and thought both were a yes

TheNuthatch · 26/02/2025 09:59

Have you seen this?
Trump has lost his marbles! His vision of Gaza including gold statues of the man himself.

^^Picture under review, so it's a picture of two bearded fellas, dancing in bikinis in the new TrumpGaza.

TheNuthatch · 26/02/2025 10:07

@Upstartled

I don't know what to think! Is it satire? Or a hack? Or has he totally lost the plot? There doesn't seem to be any comment posted with the video.

I can only presume he is offering up something so completely dreadful to offend the sensibilities of everyone at the same time that whatever he is really after will come as a relief. 🤷🏼‍♀️

That, or they really should revise the tall buildings.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 26/02/2025 11:31

WTF?

This is some trolling of the highest order.

Or is it?

I don't know what to think. Have they all lost their mind?

Well, you called that @TheNuthatch

We should start putting small wagers on impending political gaffes!

He's far too stubborn to admit to anything. So good this thread exists, so much Starmer love on here 😬

That Trump video!

EasternStandard · 26/02/2025 14:14

Well not on here this thread

On here mn 😅

The loyalty is something else

TheNuthatch · 26/02/2025 15:32

Our Dear Leader is off to Washington. He's taking Lammy the liability with him, but he's going on a different flight.
TBF to Keir, I wouldn't want to sit next to Lammy for 9 hours either, so fair play 😂

According to my tech bro colleague, this video has been doing the rounds for a while.
It was either re-posted by Trump's team on truth social, or they've been hacked.
I cant see Trump making an AI video of himself looking a bit podgey on a sun lounger.

TheNuthatch · 26/02/2025 15:44

@EasternStandard
I'm hoping Trump forces Starmer to take Chagos off the table as part of any agreement. Its the only way Starmer would back down.

It's on his Instagram too, so don't think he's been hacked.

So Trump's team must have at least approved of it then if it's across his social media.
