If anyone is in need of a laugh, one of my little darlings decided it would be a great April fool to rearrange all the labelled lids on my spice jars. I have no idea what's what. I made marry me chicken tonight but it tasted like an Indian take away. I'm assuming I added tikka powder instead of paprika!

Ha nice April fool @TheNuthatch

I’m hiding here for a bit, some over invested type on another thread.

When you look at the top issues for the week, cost of living is, unsurprisingly, the most common concern.

Worryingly for Labour, perhaps, is that Labour voters find cost of living more concerning than voters of every other party - with 65% of Labour voters citing it as the biggest problem, compared with conservatives (57%) Reform (56%) Lib dems (50%) and Greens (53%).

So they are pissing off their own base the most, it's no wonder they are haemorrhaging support and given that this isn't a situation that is going to improve any time soon - well, it's not looking sunny.

TheNuthatch · 04/04/2025 10:35

Thanks @Upstartled. It's not surprising is it. I had thought the Lib Dems would be doing better though.
Watching the 10pm news last night, it was all Trump. I couldn't help thinking that Trump and his antics isn't at the top of most people's thoughts. It's the cost of living and the damage caused by the government's actions at home that are causing angst.

OP posts:
GrizzlyHairBear · 04/04/2025 11:45

If people understand how global trade and tariffs work and their effects on economies, then they will be very concerned about Trump's latest shenanigans. There is a potentially huge effect of this on the global economy and if Joe Bloggs can't recognise this risk, the markets surely can.

The libdems, Jesus, did you see their stunt to open the beginning of their local election campaign?

Talk about read the room. I'm not sure people are interested in watching Mr Tumble Ed Davis ride a pantomime horse around a toy race course or think this slapstick is what the country needs.

😂 Yes you're right.
I just thought they might hoover up some on the left after the benefits cuts.

The current polls are almost the same as what the libdems achieved in the g.e. and it's the same for the Greens too.

This really shows it’s mistakes that shift polls.

Labour get it wrong and the other two get in front.

Absolutely. I was listening to Badenoch on Triggerometry, months ago now, and her response to the question of, 'What are you going to do now?' was a long winded version of 'fuck all, for a while'.

And, tbf, this, stepping back and giving them plenty of rope, seems to be bearing fruit now.

Or she just doesn't have a clue what to do is another way of looking at it.

Yes. At least they aren't pretending that they have a lot of good ideas but they couldn't possibly tell anyone in case the government of the day were to nick them. Ah...2024, I'm almost nostalgic 😁

Ha ha, they did didn't they! Like there was a master plan hidden away in a drawer just waiting to be unleashed.

Upstartled · 04/04/2025 14:52

Labour master plan 2024: 1)Grow economy by harming business. 2)Get someone else to pay for my trousers. 3)Pull rug out from private school kids - use money to give all children something they neither asked for or want, 4) take WASPI women off Christmas card list, 5)send activists over to canvas for Harris because she'll definitely win. (Don't tell Rishi anything in case he gets wind of winning formula)

Only 3 weeks until GCSEs.
DC has done 3 sets of mocks. Each one more stressful than the last. Hope all your dc are feeling OK about them.

Yeah, it's okay so far. Mock A-levels were good and it's just going to be a matter of getting him through hayfever season unscathed for him to do well. Mock GCSE's had some highs and a couple of lower than expected grades but at least he knows what he's focussing on through the Easter hols.
My youngest has just finished his mock sats, he's absolutely flying but he's in a foul mood with the amount of homework he is getting.

I am not yet drinking wine in the bath but those days are coming 🤣

Upstartled · 04/04/2025 16:04

It is stressful though, isn't it? How is your household holding up in the countdown?

That's good. Glad they're all coping as well as can be.

DD is one of those people who takes the weight of the world on her shoulders so it's been tough if I'm honest. DH has been working away a lot which hasnt helped. Hopefully two weeks off, and some extra sleep (and chocolate) will help.

As for wine in the bath, I put it in a travel mug sometimes when I go dog walking in the evenings 😁. I took a g+t last night and watched the sunset from the top of a hill. Bliss.

OP posts:
Upstartled · 04/04/2025 16:33

Yeah, I really sympathise with your DD. That was much more like my experience of exams. Consciousness but stressed.

😁I like the idea of your crafty g&t. That sounds lovely.
