Continuation of the Angela from housing thread. For those who want to moan about the government and share thoughts and articles.

The FTSE100 has closed 4.95% down, lowest since March 2020.

What an end to the week.

The drop is really steep, isn't it? If you look at the rate it was as low today as last on November 13 - so, not ideal, but with my Pollyanna hat on - it could have been worse. And may yet be when it opens on Monday, I suppose, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things will rally.

TheNuthatch · 05/04/2025 11:52

Happy Weekend 🌞

I cant find anything positive in the news currently. Just that the boat crossings are down due to windy conditions in the channel. No doubt the government will take credit for it anyway. Ho hum.

I hope you're all enjoying this gorgeous weather. If there are any small businesses near you, please show them some love this weekend. The NI hike comes in tomorrow so it's a stressful time for many.

Confirming what I already knew. Confidence is on the floor. This is the opposite of going for growth.

Britain's construction industry shrank sharply last month, with civil engineering declining at the fastest rate since 2020 due to weak orders and a lack of new infrastructure work.

It’s mad atm

My response today was to hang out in the garden in the sunshine surrounded by loads of blossom and daffodils, now having a g&t

Flowers to everyone

PuttingouttheFirewithGasoline · 05/04/2025 19:06

Sounds wonderful eastern. Everything is going to hit us at once,ni rises tariff etc.
Everything feels so miserable.

However the sun is shining and we can at least enjoy nature.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 05/04/2025 19:07

Head in sand.

🍷 in hand.

It’s the only way.

This is the guy who took Jacob Rees Mogg's seat at the election. Now arrested for rape and child sex offences.

Jesus. That is a monstrous set of charges.

TheNuthatch · 05/04/2025 20:51

I remember him from At Home With the Rees Moggs, out campaigning with his dog.

The Mirror are reporting that he trained with the NSPCC and worked as a child protection officer and teacher. Utterly vile.

Looks like the spin machine is in full swing. Labour is using the Trump tariffs and framing it as a new era that requires a new response to build a rationale to break fiscal rules and jack up taxes - without any nod to the fact that this outcome was already baked in from Reeve's disastrous economic policy.

TheNuthatch · 05/04/2025 21:09

Blaming Trump for their own incompetence and hoping nobody notices. Colour me surprised.

Any chance JRM will return 😜❤️
on another note had lunch with a friend yesterday both bemoaning the state of this shit show both pushing our kids out of this shit show whose best friend is a Lib Dem working in parliament evidently Reeves is crying all the time because she’s totally out of her depth fux sake well that’s all right then

Barbadossunset · 05/04/2025 22:07

evidently Reeves is crying all the time because she’s totally out of her depth fux sake well that’s all right then.

Labour were in opposition for years and criticised the Tories every which way (some of it very unpleasant), and crowed over any bad press the Tories received. I wonder if it occurred to them that when they were the ones in power then the same would happen to them.

I wouldn't be surprised if JRM ran again 😂.
I have no sympathy for Reeves whatsoever after what she's done.
I love all your insider info. You seem very well connected <taps nose>

Sadly I think our new thread will be targeted by Labour posters armed with that usual Labour style as they read the title.

Good idea. I’m not dealing with that. They can get bored and go on other Labour threads.

Sorry I didn’t mean to pick on your thread title! It’s great you put it up. It’s a good one.

Hopefully they’ll just get bored and go to other pro Labour threads.

If we chat around them then fab

I know you didn't mean it like that, sorry if that's how my post came across. I honestly couldn't think of anything else. I was also slightly drunk! Will try and be more prepared next time, ask for suggestions etc and not leave it until the last minute.
Fingers crossed we get left alone.
