My ds's school is one among a trial that will begin in the summer term. It seems the response has been pretty underwhelming. From chatter among parents, the biggest draw is the opportunity to reduce congestion around the school - not the pennies worth of breakfast.

Ds (y6) and his mates who all get themselves to school in any case, have no interest in going early. I imagine that some kids will benefit from a meagre breakfast over no breakfast but catching them with a universal roll out seems excessive.

X post, Mike Amesbury? That rolled around quick.

I don't know all the details, but I have some sympathy for MPs in the wake of Amess and Cox.

From the videos I have seen, he was approached by a man complaining about something. MA then punched the man to the ground, and it looks like he carried on attacking him even after he hit the floor.

I though he'd been stalked by the guy who approached him? I might be wrong.

Parsley1234 · 24/02/2025 12:57

@nuthatch 60p is more than adequate with Rachel reeves school of accounting there will be enough left over to pay for 10000 more teachers just watch 🤣🤦‍♀️

Never been a business owner but listened to a commentator talking about business rates increasing and that around 9,000 pubs in addition to other business will likely close because of tax hikes.

The breakfast clubs are a good idea but not costed and the staff in schools have enough to deal with.

Labour are the party of unintended consequences.

I don't know about that sorry, maybe more details will come out now that he has been sentenced. The video I saw was pretty bad, certainly not befitting of an MP. The bi election will be interesting.

9000 pubs! That's shocking. I heard the owner of Wetherspoons telling Sky that the tax hikes will cost his business £1.2million per week.

Did anyone watch or listen to the Trump/Macron press conference? I was quite impressed by Macron.

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 24/02/2025 21:40

@TheNuthatch I was just about to ask the same question

Yes I listened on the radio, found it quite something

Lots of compliments, hard to know what is in place wrt what Europe want from US

TheNuthatch · 24/02/2025 22:08

I watched it, and i thought Trump's body language was quite telling. I noticed Trump referred to it as an invasion once. He was clearly uncomfortable when Macron said certain things. I'm glad Macron reminded America just how close to France Ukraine is.
Overall I was impressed by Macron. I hope he managed to deliver a few home truths to Trump.

He reiterated French and UK sending troops though, but that they would have US support if Putin broke the peace I think? Not sure what Trump thought of that!

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 24/02/2025 22:14

I couldn't get a clear steer on the troops either

We clearly need US in some capacity as security and I'm not sure that's decided

Plus I was taken by the idea of Putin's signature meaning a lot, if we're there it'll have to!

Parsley1234 · 24/02/2025 22:32

Macron was very good let’s watch Starmer Thursday with his nasal voice 🤦‍♀️ trump is going to wipe the floor with him I anticipate

EasternStandard · 24/02/2025 22:47

He'll have to remember not to say 'fixing the foundations' and 'black hole' in that voice.

That Oval Office bit where Trump says yeh yeh Europe can send troops felt a bit risky, like yeh I don't care

Shall we play Starmer bingo on Thursday? I reckon he will say fixing the foundations 😂

I didn't hear Trump commit or agree to a backstop, and Russia have said no to troops. You're right, I'm not sure Trump cares!

OP posts:
TheNuthatch · 24/02/2025 22:55

@Parsley1234
Agreed, Starmer isn't the best statesman is he. If we still had spitting image, Starmer would be completely grey like John Major was 😂

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 24/02/2025 22:58

@TheNuthatch 😂

Any Labour interview will have 'inherited', 'difficult decisions' and 'foundations' one

Any MP it's ridiculous on any topic. The script is so stuck

As for Starms international version maybe he'll get a bit of new writing at last

But isn't the press conference just going to be the same stuff as Macron? Seems odd if so

TheNuthatch · 24/02/2025 23:05

Yes, probably the same stuff as Macron, just badly executed with less bromance. I have zero faith in Starmer here.

I'm trying to imagine the hand over call from macron to starmer "he loves a good long 'and shake and he likes you touchin "is knee, keir touch" im".

Also impressed with macron and there are some good clips on the handshakes and touching between the pair over the years. Macron touched trumps leg then trump touched his leg 🤣.

PuttingouttheFirewithGasoline · 25/02/2025 07:33

Maybe starmer won't need to remember not to say the classic lines maybe he will be re programmed for trump.

EasternStandard · 25/02/2025 07:43

Haha

I was amused by the idea of Starmer sending a 'how did it go?' text

PuttingouttheFirewithGasoline · 25/02/2025 08:49

I bet starmer is being given role play help in no 10 with someone acting trump

'Maybe he will be re programmed for trump'

Perhaps he it currently plugged in somewhere having his latest principles uploaded 😂
