Oof at the updates today

Rachel Reeves is already at risk of breaking her borrowing rules after more than £4bn of her new headroom was wiped out by higher borrowing costs.

Higher taxes will get us into a doom spiral.

twistyizzy · 27/03/2025 14:31

Media starting to accuse her of gaslighting now

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 27/03/2025 15:19

She won’t last.

Also, the tickets? Just why? Short memory? Thinking she’s invincible?

Sadly whoever comes after her will be the same.

twistyizzy · 27/03/2025 15:21

Phillipson needs to follow swiftly behind her

EasternStandard · 27/03/2025 15:22

Starmer is as culpable. If she goes he should.

Fuck no.

It will get worse.

Which is why he probably won't get rid of any of them!

True. Although I take the point below that they are worse behind him.

None in that party can fix this.

What's wrong with Rayner? 🤣🤣🤣

£4bn in one day!
We still have the NICs rise and tariff day next week.

So Reeves and Starmer tax work, growth halves and they wipe out headroom so they go for cuts.

Now that results in markets reacting and gets wiped out.

More cuts, with no limits on who feels them.

Even the staunchest of Labour fans could see the problems caused there. Well, most.

Edited to add: an interesting insight yesterday from economics journalist, she can survive Labour MPs but the markets are a different ballgame.

TheNuthatch · 27/03/2025 16:03

Yup.
Cue screams of 'tax the rich'.

Edited as just seen your edit 😂
Agreed, she will be forced out by the markets at some point, whether Starmer likes it or not.

Runcorn by-election date set for 1st May.
Should be interesting!

No I said I have never voted Tory but I certainly will never vote Labour again. Now I will vote for whichever party stands best chance of getting them out.
That's on them. They have fucked up, continue to fuck up + lie/gaslight about it

Plus the whole taxing education thing. I am now a single policy voter.

Same. On getting them out.

Macron and Starmer still banging the drum, trying to improve their poll ratings.

It's now called a reassurance force.

Bloody hell. Another rename. It’s like when a bank keeps coming up with new account names. Pro plus reassurance bollocks.

I find all that unbearably cringey and just poll rating nonsense.

TheNuthatch · 27/03/2025 19:14

FGS! I live in one of these areas.
What the fuck are they trying to achieve here? Do they just want all schools to be equally shit? Because that's where this is heading.
Meanwhile the elite schools become even more elite.

Dh just told be about a private school that has closed today in Clitheroe. Weeks before exams start.

Thanks for all the info you share on what Labour are doing to education. You seem very clued up on this issue.

I work in education sector and am very invested plus personally impacted through the VAT on independent schools and part of the parent group fighting against it.
