Thanks from me too @twistyizzy

The guardian are in full attack mode, hell hath no fury like a newspaper scorned, I guess.

Polling is now so low for the Labour Party by More in Common that the Conservatives, who are still miserably unpopular, are leading - and it doesn't include the fall out from the budget statement.

@twistyizzy well done ! Bloody shit show this education policy just unbelievable

TheNuthatch · 27/03/2025 20:20

twistyizzy · 27/03/2025 19:19

I work in education sector and am very invested plus personally impacted through the VAT on independent schools and part of the parent group fighting against it.

Keep fighting the good fight 💪
Is this going to be where the cuts to the education budget fall? Or are their rumours of other cuts too? I keep reading about cuts to school meals.

PuttingouttheFirewithGasoline · 27/03/2025 20:55

If all schools are equally crap that will be "fair".

Parsley1234 · 27/03/2025 20:55

Very good the observation of Ana Boulter yesterday re the 4 KCs where they were educated jeez what a bloody dilemma for them I know briefs have to take what the case is but having to argue for vat on school fees is a bit off
see how that goes I hope the government get their ass handed to them

twistyizzy · 28/03/2025 07:04

And exactly as predicted this announcement:
Government forcing SEN kids out of spdciliat SEN schools into mainstream with only a tiny % increase in funding because specialist SEN schools are too expensive.
Kids aren't in specialist SEN schools because they need adaptive technology or a breakout room!

https://www.tes.com/magazine/news/general/send-10000-new-places-mainstream-and-special-schools

SEND: 10,000 new places in mainstream and special schools

DfE warns that special schools are 8,000 students over capacity and highlights that fewer than one in 10 mainstream schools have specialist provision

And that's the plan! Tall poppy syndrome + bring every school down to lowest common denominator to claim "equality"

There is a 1.4B cut to health + education budget before all the other measures announced.
I will fight this until Labour are out! Phillipson is over seeing the closure of schools and destruction of education whilst sneering and laughing all the way!
Anyone with kids in state schools/with SE N/homeschooling needs to be very, very worried.

PuttingouttheFirewithGasoline · 28/03/2025 07:10

@twistyizzy

What deeply annoys me is that they are not actually getting to the root cause of why many choices are being left behind which is the one size fits all teaching style.
Eg opening up reading and how to read

Well exactly. They just make noise about 60p breakfast clubs!

MSM aren't giving this issue enough coverage.

You're right but then there has been little scrutiny of any of their policies up until now. We were trying to highlight this but have been continually shot down with "Labour would never do that" etc.

twistyizzy · 28/03/2025 07:24

Katherine Birbalsingh has tried to highlight the issues and been crucified

Parsley1234 · 28/03/2025 07:28

It is absolutely terrifying the systemic dismantling of education establishments I am incredulous on a daily basis. Unfortunately we have such a low educated population the inertia is well embedded most people don’t understand or even want to. My friend is in a state school with massive SEN population because the 1st cousin marriages is endemic the last child of one family no 5 is so disabled he can’t even wipe him bum it’s bloody awful. They are all so bloody evil the school that closed yesterday with 1 days notice can you imagine the stress if those parents today

TheNuthatch · 28/03/2025 09:06

I genuinely didn't know about many of the things you've drawn attention to @twistyizzy, despite following the news daily, and keeping up with politics.
I will start reading the threads in education.

It's costing taxpayer approx £1 million based on 4 x KCs

EasternStandard · 28/03/2025 11:04

The education stuff is so bad. Unbearable.

Hopefully someone can come in and reverse damage after Labour but it’s depressing.

TheNuthatch · 28/03/2025 11:43

I'm surprised Doyle has lasted this long to be honest.
Unlikely that better comms will help them now. It's the message that's the problem, not the messenger. Even Alistair Campbell would struggle selling this shit shower!

Just been told that Starmer is visiting really close to where I'm working today. I hope he's brought his rescue helicopter, he may need it. Should I pop in for a chat? 😁

Prime Ministers usually need breathing apparatus and a sherpa when they come this far north 😂

I think it's too toxic for even him now? Blair has vanished hasn't he?
