Personally I say no, even though I voted to leave, at least I can look back and say this was a mistake
if the vote was to happen now I would vote remain

my reasons for voting at the time was because, I wanted this country to be the captain of its own country and not to have to follow whatever another country told us too
basically Independence

also we were also lied to that, this would really improve the NHS which was clearly aload of shit looking back

I can at least own my mistake saying voted leave but, I now I think it was the wrong choice

I also think the media are a lot to blame, by making out no way will people vote to leave
And that only racists will vote leave

the whole country was in shock the next morning when the results came out

OP posts:
SlaveToAGoldenRetriever · 10/02/2025 17:40

Absolutely not, especially considering the leave campaign openly conned their voters.

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/02/2025 17:42

1st it was a COVID post and now a Brexit post 😆

tonyhawks23 · 10/02/2025 17:42

Brexit was ridiculous I honestly didn't think it could happen,it was the stupidest idea ever.

Puttingoutfireswithgasoline · 10/02/2025 17:43

I remember being bitterly disappointed.

Not a great deal we can do about it now.

SlaveToAGoldenRetriever · 10/02/2025 17:44

I’m very grateful for my Irish passport nowadays!

Theunamedcat · 10/02/2025 17:44

I voted remain my position hasn't changed I was tempted by the brexit promises I looked into it thoroughly AND IF it had been done properly we might have been OK but we had a bunch of yahoos in government who honestly think "independence" still means using cheap labour from overseas and outsourcing everything overseas while moaning the British don't work while making it impossible to work 😂 so no I wanted to stay

Theunamedcat · 10/02/2025 17:46

I will actually say we were lied to because it was only supposed to be advisory not binding so an indication of the will of the people I still maintain people voted leave to shock the government not because they thought for one minute that they woukd do it

WifeImprovementWorksInProgress · 10/02/2025 17:48

It wasn't only racists who voted leave, but racism was a big factor in the decision of many leave voters. Even if many leavers had different motives or valid reasons for their vote, I can't get my head around them wanting to be associated with the racism and outright lies that the leave campaign and it's most vocal supporters generated. It was known at the time, this is not a hindsight thing.

yes, someone on the Covid thread requested a vote on this subject too

No, I voted remain and stand by that. Some people who voted leave did so for considered reasons but an awful were just swayed by slogans.

So you decided to do it lol

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 10/02/2025 17:52

OP you are one of the majority who allowed the shafting of the slightly smaller minority and eventually shafted us all.

Well as someone said… not everyone that voted for Brexit was a racist… but every single racist voted for Brexit. The old saying goes; lie down with dogs and you’ll get fleas.

None of the Brexit promises have, or will come true.
-lucrative trade deals from the rest of the world: nope
-decrease in immigration: even bigger fatter nope.
-Ability to “make one’s own laws”… well the reality of it is the more we diverge from (basically) international law and standards. the more and more isolated we will become, particularly wrt foreign investment (yes brexiteers that’s important even though it has the word foreign in it). Inward investment has plummeted I believe.

With immigration, only around 10% comes from “stop the boats!!!”
The rest is via visas, for legal immigration; students, much needed essential workers too. Any govt with their heads not completely up there arse (ie not the reform party) will understand that ceasing ALL immigration would actually be disastrous to the country; we just don’t have the workers for the jobs that need doing and clutching a Union Jack and a can of Stella whilst shouting at the traffic isn’t going to change that.

Brexit was always a con. Distract the masses with claims that foreigners were the root of all our problems (they’re really not) while the actual elite (Farage, Banks, Mogg and a thousand other right wing bad actors) actually make a killing out of the negative effects. They’re the ones that have profited from this faux patriotic little chess game of theirs.

The only “growth” we have in this country is now in financial services. Money laundering in other words. How does that help the average community?
It doesn’t. It helps a tiny minority.

And that was always the point.

The wealth gap is bigger than ever. Billionaires are twice as rich as they were and money drains from everyone else’s pockets, mine included.

We reap what we sow, or rather we all have to reap what some of you sowed.
Hey ho.

MelisandeLongfield · 10/02/2025 19:38

I voted remain. Leaving the EU was a huge mistake. 'Project Fear' can now be rebranded as 'An accurate prediction of what would go wrong if we left the EU'.

Twiglets1 · 10/02/2025 19:45

I voted Remain and still think there have been few benefits to Brexit.

In fact the only one I can think of was that we got access to covid vaccines a bit quicker - something that was not anticipated when the Brexit vote happened.

Claiming the Brexit vote had a positive impact on the Covid vaccine, is like listening to someone that was in a marathon and sprinted off the line to lead the race for the first 200 yards and thinking they were the winner.

It made absolutely no difference in the long run.

username299 · 10/02/2025 19:54

I remember talking to some Germans just after the Brexit vote and they thought we were all mad. They couldn't understand. Of course now, the AfD are gaining traction there and they can see how bigotry can sway a vote.

Pedallleur · 10/02/2025 19:55

I voted remain. Sadly Brexit brought us no benefits. The rich got richer and our country is a lesser country. Immigration, passports, cheaper gas/shoes etc. We hold all the cards!! Well they were Jokers. Sadly no one answered for the lies/false promises.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 10/02/2025 19:55

Im honestly fine with it.

theduchessofspork · 10/02/2025 19:56

No, no upsides yet visible

what a surprise

Maybe so but I remember being very grateful and relieved at the time to get the covid vaccine early as was working in a pop up school at the time nearly everything else was shut.

That’s nice.

If you were running a business you wouldn’t be.

Whoarethoseguys · 10/02/2025 19:57

No, it was s huge mistake. The referendum should never have taken place because people were being asked to make a del without fully understanding what the EU is or our relationship with it

LlynTegid · 10/02/2025 19:57

Thank you OP for acknowledging that you feel you made a mistake. Most of the 52% still seem in denial.

DanceMumTaxi · 10/02/2025 19:58

No, we absolutely shouldn’t have left. It was a travesty, but I knew this at the time and voted remain. Feel like people were very gullible and believed the headlines.
