Trump's Theory about the Plane Crash

Just watched his press conference in absolute disbelief. He's just blamed the air traffic controllers as apparently under the Biden administration they recruited people into the role who weren't intellectually capable. He actually blames diversity criteria and basically box ticking.... 'hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities' - that's a direct quote.

As someone with ASD, anxiety and depression who works in a high level, highly skilled role, I am angry on behalf of anyone like me.

The man is a dangerous liar.

That's the 14th repetition of the point that I said I understood way back in the day when you first started this. Are you planning on doing this all night?

Then why should I have mentioned this

"You failed to mention that the speculation has already been shown to be incorrect by the person in question producing a video saying it wasn't them. And it wasn't started by a mumsnetter, it was started on twitter, a thread started on here and it was already deleted hours ago"

Racism in the world will never be totally eradicated. But having one black president does indicate that enough people in America were more than happy to vote Barack in, and means that things have progressed massively to what they were even just 50 years ago.

I think people were very different in 2008 to 2012 when Obama was elected. We didn’t have billionaire tech, social media influencers and algorithms tearing people apart. People across the West are very divided now and with Trump keeping on swinging, it won’t get any better soon.

I suspect Trump doesn’t actually care about DEI (his own family members were given positions in government!) and I believe his real agenda is stripping down government departments to enact tax cuts for the wealthy. If he really cared about poor white, non-disabled people, he would have brought in universal programs based on lack of income and which are not based on any kind of Identity, but no - all crickets in that department.

There are more posts by you about this thread that someone posted that was very swiftly removed, than on the thread itself. Most of the posts were people saying 'this is bullshit/don't speculate'.

All we know is that one person posted a thread. We don't know who and we don't know if it was one of the people that regularly post goady threads to make FWR look bad. Maybe you need to discuss this with MNHQ if you still have concerns.
For me, and by me I mean just me not you, I have more concerns with a much larger contingent posting this on a worldwide social media and putting that person into actual danger.

And yes you did fail to mention those things. Maybe you don't go outside of MN, I don't know. I don't really care. Maybe you didn't notice the posts on the thread calling it out, maybe you didn't know it had already been deleted ages before your post. Your implication was that people were thrilled, but that was one person that had posted an already deleted thread which people had already reported and it was already gone.

If I had been on Twitter, I would have mentioned that as well.
Because that's also more evidence that proves the point that people will be thrilled if someone from a minority group could have been involved - which they clearly weren't.

So saying that "I failed to mention something" that also makes my point is unusual.

The thing that I failed to mention also makes my point.

Afraidofhimrightnow · 31/01/2025 23:00

The backpedalling was confusing. I was thinking surely if Trump believes his own rhetoric we should see the American aviation industry grounded whilst all these supposedly incompetent DEI hired people are fired and replaced?

Well, obviously there will be people who are thrilled, one of them posted on this forum. However many people aren't thrilled. And are horrified that the person was put into this position. Including the people that reported the thread.

Yes. So it’s for Air Traffic Controller jobs, those with targeted disabilities. That’s what the programme was for.

And that's NOT a problem because those on the program had to pass the same tests as everyone else.

Not all disabilities affect intellect and ability to do some jobs.

My ds has a degenerative neuromuscular condition and autism. He codes stuff used internationally.

Programs like this are designed for people like ds whereby the first thing someone sees is the wheelchair and asd dx. Where actually you have a highly intelligent person with an amazing mind who just so happens to be crap at small talk and can't walk most of the time!

Your son is obviously a highly intelligent person who secured his job despite his disability & not because of it. I think this explains exactly why people feel Jobs should be allocated on merit & not a woke box ticking criteria.

Because the damage it would cause the economy would be massive. Unfortunately we do have to take on some risks. But I hope we can fix the problem with minimum disruption.

I was a disability outreach worker for many years and not once did l see a disabled person recruited as a ‘box ticking exercise’. The many excellent employers l worked with saw their potential at the recruitment stage and worked with various agencies to make reasonable adjustment where it was needed, to allow them to do the job to their full potential. The problem is that there are many more employers who are not so enlightened. The government is embarking on a major benefits shake up which will see many more severely disabled people being forced to look for work. The unfairness is palpable. If they get a job they’re seen as part of a box ticking exercise, if not they’re lazy scroungers who can and should work. It’s a no win situation.

Any particular reason you think people from diverse backgrounds would only reach bare minimum standard?

Unconscious bias and lack of critical thinking ?

Do you think people with "severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities" should be air traffic controllers?

They shouldn't be president of the USA but shit happens.

RingoJuice · 01/02/2025 06:18

Here’s a comment from on of the lawyers on the Brigida vs Buttigieg case:

Here are some thoughts after over a year of litigating Brigida v Department of Transportion, a DEI Air Traffic Control case against the Biden FAA and DOJ

The FAA pushed its radical DEI agenda for decades. It watered down the air traffic control aptitude test multiple times for the stated purpose of increasing Air Traffic Control(ATC) diversity, until finally a questionable character self-assessment was worth far more than the ability to understand flight paths and intersecting angles.

Under both the Obama and Biden Administrations, the FAA was influenced by DEI fanatics to change its air traffic control hiring process. Rather than stick with the science, the agency used an ATC aptitude test – if it can even be called that – that prioritized skin color and sex over actual competence.

During the Obama Administration more than 2000 qualified & vetted men and women were lined up to become air traffic controllers. They’d demonstrated their competence and eagerness to protect the American skies and were just waiting on orders from the government. The order that came was to remove them from the ATC queue altogether. The reason: Obama’s FAA decided they weren’t racially diverse enough.

The Obama Administration threw out the results of an ATC aptitude test proven to select the best candidates in favor of a 10 minute self-assessment that had zero guardrails against cheating and even less to do with air traffic. Anyone who failed according to the FAA’s secret scoring system was denied the job, no matter how highly they’d scored on the actual ATC aptitude test.

In the name of DEI, Obama’s FAA instituted an air traffic control hiring exam that awarded applicants points for being bad at science in high school, being unemployed, and having below average communication skills. The candidates who were actually qualified to be ATCs but were denied the chance to protect American skies because they didn’t pass this sham test sued to correct the injustice, but the Biden admin championed the DEI cause in court with even greater ferocity.

Back in 2013 the Obama Administration promised a “historic transformation” of the FAA. To make our skies safer? To become more technologically advanced? To study flight patterns of the busiest airspace? Obama’s promise was to make air traffic control a more diverse and inclusive workforce, and Biden doubled down on it.

Talent and experience for these jobs is a long pipeline. Losing so many qualified applicants out of only 14,000 Air Traffic Controllers, and losing potentially countless applicants since, has resulted in chronic staffing shortages and serious overtime.

No sane American cares about ATC sex and skin color, because they know it’s an obsession that, as I predicted many times last year and as recently as 2 weeks ago, would result in tragedy.

The former Attorney General of Nevada.

What is it you are disputing?

It was dismissed because he filed it in the wrong district. The details are all in this as written by the judge.

Well yes it is the lawyers representing this group.

The key takeaway should be that the government didn’t like the skin color of the applicants so they threw out the results of the skills-based test.

THAT is horrible and anyone known to have been part of this decision should be named, shamed and fired.

Notonthestairs · 01/02/2025 08:37

Lawyers working on behalf of their clients frame their arguments accordingly. Hence the emotive and loaded language.

The key takeaway is that the information is unreliable as a news source because of the biased way in which it is written and it is therefore untrustworthy.

The premise may well be true but it is discredited by the use of language. I would have to do a lot more further research before I formed an opinion.

As I linked to earlier in the thread (but nobody seems to have to have read), here are the details of the bizarre questionnaire and a link to the court documents which include the questionnaire and the points for each answer so you can see the documents in question for yourself.

Clearly then I guess that some posters think that ATC in the USA is staffed by people who aren't able to do the job and so flying in the USA is unsafe?

Maybe just maybe, it really was that bad?

This is why the likes of Trump get elected, because excuse after excuse for the wrong person, the wrong language, the wrong links, the wrong source it's the wrong wrong wrong thing person dooda whatever whoever blah blah blah and people just want it all to stop. And someone who doesn't care what you think about them comes along and says words that people have been wanting to hear for years and that's why they vote for him. He's a gobshite that says whatever comes into his head but people are so damaged by the bullshit, that's all they want to hear.

Well again, it's not really a binary safe vs unsafe thing is it?

Do I think the FAA have taken actions which increase the risk of flying? Yes I do. ATCs are a safety critical role and the only consideration in recruitment should be who can do it best.

Are plane crashes still relatively rare? Of course.

Was the plane crash here caused by these issues? Probably not and Trump is an idiot for saying stuff without evidence.

Personally I haven't flown for a decade anyway and have no immediate plans to fly again anyway.

What the FAA did is still wrong in any event.
